official word from apple. "Apple Developer Relations
October 26 2017, 8:37 AMEngineering has provided the following information regarding this issue: This issue is actually with Acura. We’ve contacted Honda/Acura and they are working on a fix. We suggest you monitor for a software update for your car in the future that will fix this."

So if the problem is so pervasive, why do I not see it?

iOS 11.0.3 with iPhone 6s Plus and 2015 TLX Tech. Have not had a single issue with BT or phonebook sync. Am I just lucky? Or are you folks doing something I’m not?

I firmly believe there is something related to hardware version or a combination of settings responsibile for the fact that I have never seen an issue.

Maybe this will help spread some light. Just bought a 2017 MDX Tech. My wife has an iPhone 8+, i have a 7 and a 6s. All phones are on 11.0.3 iOS. The only phone having problems is my wife’s 8+. It downloads the phonebook and then a few minutes later it pairs itself down to just a few contacts. So it goes from hundreds to about 12. Very few contacts have images in them and it is missing contacts that have images and contacts that do not.

With the 2017 MDX, it seems to be an iPhone 8+ issue and not a 6s or 7. i have daughters with 7+ and 8+, so i will pair those soon and see what happens.

This is very frustrating for sure. Acura dealer has no clue, blaming it on iOS versions, but all phone are on the same version.

just delete the photos of your contacts, to solve the issue until apple or Acura release a software update to fix the issue.

I don't know if iPhone 6 or 6s presents the bug I ve just tested on iPhone 7.

I tested it by adding contact photos to my old iPhone 6 which always worked perfectly. Once I added the photos, it acted justed like my iPhone 7 with this issue. It’s hands down the photos.

can someone 100% confirm this works for iPhone 8+ before I go through the hundreds of contacts I have for the third time looking for photos? I don’t care if it worked for your 6 or 7, I need an 8+. It works just fine on my 7 and my 6s.

Yes and my Pandora features don’t work either. Right now, I’m working on just trying to get my new 2017 TLX 9 speed out of my garage. The brake pedal is as hard as a rock at start up and takes me 3 tries to get it started. Also the car hesitates and jerks all over the place. The dealership has had my car twice for days and they are saying they can’t replicate the problem. Taking it to another dealership on Monday.

Correct. I don’t and never have.

My contacts are all synched from Office 365 via Outlook for iOS and stored in iCloud. The contacts app on the phone then syncs the contacts group from iCloud.

Wouldn’t know how to add photos to contacts if I wanted them, which it seems I absolutely don’t. Either way...no issues.

I have and 8+ runnning iOS 11.0.3. in a 2015 TLX V6 Tech I deleted all contact photos and my complete phone book synced. The way i knew which contacts had photos is by the grayed out alpha tabs. (ie JKL), then went through those contacts and deleted photos. I rebooted the phone and the car and all worked.

After testing a little bit further, it looks like emojis may also impact it if you have emojis in contact names.

Hi,
I have an iPhone 6s Plus and the workaround mentioned here about deleting contact photos helped. After doing that, my phonebook synched successfully and did not disappear after making calls.

2014 RLX Sport Hybrid here. Handsfree has worked perfectly for three years with a succession of iPhones (with the exception of not being able to reply to received text messages). With iOS 11, my history suddenly shows only numbers and not names, and my addressbook sometimes disappears. No standard fixes have worked.

this worked for me as well, thanks to whoever came up with this workaround. I wonder if anyone has tried turning off contact photo in the car's phone settings instead. I did this as well but only after already deleting all my contact photos on phone. I just wondered if maybe it would have worked with only turning it off in the car's setting.

Pandora Built in App Failure With IOS 11

I contacted Acura Technology Support, (888) 528-7876‬ and created a support case. Other than documenting my concern they were no help. I have made numerous inquiries with Pandora https://help.pandora.com/customer/portal/emails/new and there response is it’s a problem, just not theirs.

I am am now following Acura in Facebook and for each feed that shows up in my News feed I post,

I noticed that Acura is monitoring these posts so I will share a challenge I have had recently. Over the past 12 years I have owned numerous Acura Models and usually see Acura as a great customer advocate. I have a 2016 MDX Advanced. Since upgrading to iOS 11 the interface with Pandora App that is built into the car does not work. I have contacted Acura, not their problem, Pandora, little to no response. What even makes the problem worse is if I try to use the Bluetooth connection mode instead of the Pandora App, I can listen to music, but the iPhone still goes into accessory mode like when you connect to the Pandora App, so I can't change channels. When I talked to Acura Technical Support I asked if they could pressure Pandora (there are thousands of these on the roads) to update the app. I did not get much of a reaction. I have iOS 11.1 installed. I have unpaired, repaired, reset Acura Entertainment Center. It fails with all iOS devices I have connected (Wife's iPhone, and three iPads) I really think it is an issue with the Pandora App and the built in Pandora App. It connects but none of the in-dash features work.
Plus it always goes into Accessory Mode when it sees built-in Pandora App, so operation from the iPhone is impossible.
Google search shows others are having this problem. HELP!

I have starting getting replies from others with this issue.

Also today I wrote a letter to each officer explains the problem and lack of interest from Acura.

iphone 6s and 2017 mdx hybrid problems

I have read the frustration of several individuals on this forum.. You are not alone. I received one of the first 2017 MDX hydbrids with a tech package. My iphone 6S will not work properly with the car. This is my 4 th MDX. The phone worked fined with the 2014 MDX I returned for the new model. It also works with the 2017 MDX loaner car that I was given twice while the car sat in the shop for almost 2 weeks. The phone also works with my new Honda Accord and 1 year old CRV. The dealer says it is an Apple problem but I am not sure that is true. Problems are the same as I have read in this forum: Bluetooth connection, constantly importing data, calls dropped, disconnection with blue tooth all together, echoing, phone numbers appear without the names from contacts, phone does not operate in hands free mode, cannot transfer to hands free mode (the transfer button freezes), voice commands also do not work. What's most upsetting is the fact that the dealer refuses to fix it or look at it. They claim that acura tech support says it is an apple problem. I have been a acura customer since the early 90's have bought over 20 honda motor cars. I have tried all the resets mentioned in this forum nothing works. Does anyone know if we were to purchase a new iphone 8 or 10, would this problem go away, or does anyone have a new fix.

Not sure if you read up on this thread. Just make sure you have no photos in your contacts, including yourself.

iOS 11.2 beta 2 has been released and the issue still present. Just keep contacts without photos or emojis and it will work it is not a perfect solution but it is as good as it gets until Acura or apple address the issue

So the removal of contact pictures worked for about one day. The iPhone then suddenly lost some iCloud family sharing capabilities (namely the family calendar) upon reset of iCloud and my AppleID on my iPhone, the contacts were yet again lost in my 2017 RDX phonebook but this time with 2 additional contacts remaining in the phone book for a total of 4 (instead of only 2 total as previously observed by others on this thread). I cannot understand this glitch but it must also have something to do with iCloud. Anyway, will try anoth Bluetooth reset/repairing and maybe the issue is resolved for good

I think everyone is going to have to make a lot of noise to get Acura to bother with any kind of software update... The infotainment system in the TLX is of very poor design and quality to begin with, and I just have a hard time believing they'd bother further developing an old, obsolete system now that they've adopted CarPlay and Android Auto.

Has Acura ever done a retroactive software update like this before?

Just want to add one more data point here on Pandora (because it works now, under the following conditions):

I updated my 7+ to iOS 11.1 this morning, and Pandora app to 1711.1 (just go into settings within the Pandora app to see it at the bottom).

While driving to work, I decided to try something new: I used a USB cable to connect my phone to the USB port below the radio. All artwork was displayed on the infotainment system (previously not working), thumbs-up/down worked (previously not working), and skipping forward/back worked (previously not working).

The audio was also a bit louder than when connected via bluetooth... I will try bluetooth on my way home, but for now, with the above mentioned equipment and versions, Pandora seems to be back in action.

IPhone SE 128GB/TMo/IOS 11.0.1

Just received my brand new device, yesterday; same problem as the old one; contacts have zero pictures; some appear; (200+), total; some don't; (probably 50-100)
Blame game between Acura & Apple; realizing that the IOS WORKS on other vehicles, whose to blame? haha
Anyway, can live with the "Hey Siri" function; she calls ALL of my contacts; work, home, & mobile
Not expecting miracles from Acura tech services; when you call them, they "yes" you to death, but offer ZERO solutions
Sort of like when I needed a new ZF tranny; thankfully, after months of banter, they replaced it

One more update to my previous post:

Tried everything I mentioned before but via bluetooth: same issues with Pandora as before. So for now, using USB resolves the issue. Bluetooth is the problem.

Restart the phone; if you have a previous phone in HFL delete it; try pairing a NEW phone; turn on BT, & wait till the pairing code appears
good luck!

I too am having pandora issues , no station list, no thumb up/down etc.... so far this has been via Bluetooth. I have an iPhone 6 totally up to date and so is my Pandora app. I deleted the phone and reinstalled it (no help). Will have to try the usb cable next.

iOS 11 phonebook issue: DELETE CONTACT PHOTOS!

Delete all contacts photos from your iPhone contacts in your phone book should work correctly. I stumbled upon this fixed somewhere on the Internet and it worked.

I don’t have any contact photos, so I don’t think that workaround applies to me, unfortunately.

Delete all your contacts photos in your iPhone!

Trying to reply to these threads is difficult as the Acura infotainment system. I discovered if you delete your contact photos in your iPhone that the phonebook will work properly and download all contacts. You have to make sure all the contact photos in your iPhone are deleted completely. I don’t have any suggestions about the volume issue…

Plugging my phone (iphone 6) via a usb cable did not fix pandora, as I stated before I have no photos associated with my contact list. By the way my phone functions flawlessly with the car just pandora doesn’t work.
