The website had the wrong data. I deleted the sales numbers. My apologies.

January 2018 US Sales

Feb 1, 2018 - TORRANCE, Calif.
  • Honda Pilot notches 5th straight monthly gain with 62% jump in January
  • Honda HR-V hits new January record as sales climb 10% for the month
  • Honda Civic rises 2.8% on heels of all-time annual record
  • TLX and RLX lead Acura cars to 9.3 percent gain in January, bucking industry trend
American Honda Motor Co., Inc. (AHM) today reported January sales of 104,542 Honda and Acura vehicles, a decrease of 1.7 percent versus January 2017. Honda Division sales were down 1.6 percent on sales of 95,634, with Honda cars narrowly down 1.3 percent on sales of 45,224, and inventory constraints leading trucks to slip 1.8 percent on sales of 50,410 units. Total Acura Division sales declined slightly in January, recording a 3.2 percent drop on sales of 8,908 units. However, passenger car sales gained 9.3 percent on sales of 2,979 vehicles.

Honda
Following a record year for Honda trucks, Pilot continued to show its true market strength as improved supplies helped it to a 61.8 percent increase, with HR-V recording a double-digit gain. Civic enjoyed a notable gain for the month, while overall car sales lagged a bit behind January 2017.
  • Pilot sales jumped 61.8 percent on sales of 11,619 in January, its 5th straight monthly increase.
  • HR-V set a new January record, gaining a robust 10 percent on sales of 6,259 for the month, continuing as one of the segment's hottest selling vehicles.
  • Civic sales were up 2.8 percent in January, while all-new Accord begins to gain momentum with the just-launched national marketing campaign.
"With a strong and fresh product line-up, we're confident in the fundamental competitiveness of our products in their segments," said Henio Arcangeli, Jr., senior vice president of the Automobile Division & general manager of Honda Sales.

Acura
After a strong December — its best month of 2017 — Acura Division sales were relatively flat in January. However, Acura cars bucked the downward trend for luxury sedan sales with a gain of 9.3% for the month.
  • Led by TLX and bolstered by the recently refreshed RLX, Acura car sales were up 9.3 percent on sales of 2,979.
  • With the TLX A-Spec increasing showroom traffic, sales gained 13.2 percent in January.
"Led by the TLX A-Spec, we're pleased to see our efforts with Acura sedans paying off in the face of a challenging market for luxury cars," said Jon Ikeda, vice president & general manager of Acura Sales. "We're looking forward to showing the 2019 RDX Prototype in Chicago next week, as the auto show circuit comes to one of Acura's strongest markets."

January 2018 Canada Sales

MARKHAM, ON (February 1, 2018) – Honda Canada Inc. today reported total January sales of 13,105 Honda and Acura vehicles, an increase of 29 percent over last year and a new record for the month. The Honda Automobile Division reported January sales of 12,007 units, up 32 percent over last year, also posting record January sales. The Acura Division reported January sales of 1,098 units, up 5 percent over last year.

“Coming off the heels of record annual sales for the fourth consecutive year, the Honda brand continues to dominate key segments with record-setting sales in January,” said Jean Marc Leclerc, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Honda Canada Inc. “We intend to build on our success of last year by remaining focused on delivering a complete lineup of quality and value-oriented vehicles to a wide variety of Canadians.”

“Launching later this year in Canada, the 2019 Acura RDX Prototype made its world debut at the 2018 North American International Auto Show, providing a first look at the bold new design, advanced technology and luxury features of the five-passenger SUV,” added Leclerc.

January Highlights:
  • Honda HR-V topped a monthly sales record with 862 units sold versus the previous best in 2017 with 850 units sold
  • Honda CR-V set a January record on sales of 3,770 units sold versus the previous best in 2017 with 2,851 units sold
  • Honda Pilot had its best January with 565 sales vs the previous best in 2016 with 506 units sold
  • Acura RDX set a monthly sales record with 473 units sold versus the previous best in 2017 with 455 units sold

Eh? TLX sales are up 13% compared to this time last year. I'd say that's progress.

They are up over last year the weakest January since the car was introduced but down compared to the two January's prior. Besides you are only talking about 252 cars, that's why they like percentages, 13% up looks look more impressive than 252 more cars.

That's still over at least $8,000,000 in revenue and it may be showing that the MMC brought some people in or the large incentives are working. Meh, it's just one month though. Needs to show a trend over the next few months. I'm curious why they're saying "led by the ASpec" if they track that stuff or are ASpec sales greater than all other trims.

I wouldn't necessarily blame the TLX for anything bad. Let's face it. All sedan sales are down. The Civic has a small gain over last year, but everything else is down. Even the new Accord is down from last year- a car that has been very well received thus far. If I'm not mistaken, wasn't the old gen Accord still selling in January 2017? If the new gen, on its first year of production, can't keep up with sales of an outgoing model, and the new model is an upgrade over the old, it starts to paint an interesting picture about where the market is going.

And hell, it may "only" be 252 more TLXs over last year, but, that's pretty good judging that we are now in the decline years (post MMC) of the generation in itself. It's rare to sell more, that late into a gen.

Canadian sales are very consistent for the past few years. It’s the US sales that aren’t impressive for Acura brand.

The Accord is the telling number. It's been fairly well received by the enthusiast community - but perhaps that's not translating to the average grocery getter.

I have only seen one new Accord on the road. Just one! I see new generation Camry pretty much every day. I think the new styling is putting people off. Thst thing is hideous, to my eyes at least.

Isnt that exactly what I just said?

It's still selling in droves. Just not in as big of droves. It's not just enthusiasts buying accords. If anything, I'd say enthusiasts are only a small part of the purchasing group. However, I think it is a tell tale sign of the sedan going extinct.

Or... is it related to supply shortages?

Agree. I've seen a handful of new Accords out in the wild and I keep trying to like the exterior styling but just can't.

Well, you may be right in the end, but the Camry began sales last summer and the Accord began around late October.

No its not just one month. Its is the second lowest month in the past 13 month. Since January 2017 only January 2017 was lower. Its also down about 1000 cars from December 2017 which was a good month for the TLX, maybe the Aspec hit a pent-up demand pocket but it was not too deep. In fairness January is not a very good month for car sales. Most of the salesmen would get more out of taking the family to Florida then out of going into the store.

The writer of the report was just trying to make lemons into Lemon-Aid for the stock holders He/She really did not have anything to work with; sales sucked across the product line. Also the $8M is not ACURA'S take. We don't really know how many dollars are returned to them as revenue on a sale.

The Germans except for Porsche make about $5K per car Porsche $17,500. FORD does about $1K

Not much out there on Acura this is an old set of numbers from a Texas dealer group in 2013 There was a short FORBES piece on dealers which said ACURA dealers were down 21% in profit but did not give a number. A gross of $2500 per car does not leave much for a net profit after the selling expenses come out so the are having a pretty tuff time right now.

2013:
  1. Honda - $2,625
  2. Honda - $2,585
  3. Acura - $2,716
  4. Toyota - $2,270
  5. Honda - $2,071
  6. Honda - $2,134
  7. Mazda - $1,860

I was thinking that generally when you have a new model released you see an uptick in numbers as dealers offer great deals on the outgoing models plus you have people rushing to get the cool new model. The Accord numbers actually dropping could mean a) Sedan sales continue to slide. And/or b) - The new Accord isn't really as well received by the masses as we think. I suspect it's a bit of both. I suspect many people who have a 9th Gen are hanging on to it for now instead of rushing in to trade for a 10th gen because they're put off by the new styling. No science here - just pure speculation.

I don't hate its exterior. But after having read so many positive about the interior, it was a let down.... doesn't have much of a luxo ambiance. A 2018 Camry in top trim feels more sophisticated.... and it can have V6.

Agreed. I stopped by my local dealer yesterday to look at the 1.5T Sport in their showroom. I actually like the interior but the exterior styling is simply awful.

I’m seeing more on the roads near me. But I also live in central NJ, which has a sizeable Asian population. Accords and Camrys abound around here come Hell or high water. (Apologies for the stereotyping; it is what it is.)

The more I see the new Accord, the less I like the exterior styling. It just looks like its butt is sagging. 9G Accord FTW

The 9.5G was by far the most elegant looking Accord built in a very long time. I really don't mind the new Accord, but it's just those tail lights that ultimately kill it for me. I do like the front, though. I don't mind the side profile- it's much better than what the crosstour was. But maybe I'm not setting the bar high enough

I'm exactly opposite of you regarding the new Accord. I was iffy when it first came out but it has definitely grown on me. Still not crazy about the front and rear but I'm not put out by them either. My neighbor just got a new Accord 2.0T Touring and I have to say it is sharp. I think the Accord looks much better in silver or white than other colors. JMHO.

I'm sure I'll get used to it, eventually. It's just that the 9G Accord was love at first sight. I came close to acquiring one last summer, instead of the TLX, when I chose to end my RLX lease early. The more I drive the TLX, though, the more I like it. It's really nice for what it is.

The front isn't bad in person but the back does look like someone measured once and cut twice.

I thought the Accord looked better in person for sure - but I would never buy it - this is coming from someone who has owned 5 different Accords going back to 1984. I might be going CUV with the RDX in a few years so it's really a moot point anyways.

I will concede that the rear end is the weakest aspect of the new Accord's styling but I like the profile of the car. Does have a hint of an Audi A7 from the side.

I think that's why it looks better in person - you'll catch an angle and think "that looks pretty sharp!" then you take two steps and look and think "what the hell was Honda thinking???"

True. Styling aside, I still think the new Accord is quite impressive as a car, especially with the 2.0T engine. I would proudly own one.

I see the new Accord as an identical twin to the Chevy Malibu.

Honestly, I think the Malibu has a cleaner, more cohesive design than the 10G.

I see where you're coming from. But here I am comparing two vehicles in the same class. While as the Optima and TLX are not related in any way. If I was interested in that market I would go for the Accord, I feel like it is a bold move for Honda. I can't wait to see what Acura's next wave of vehicles look like (MDX/RLX/TLX)

Both the Optima and TLX are FWD-based sedans with very similar proportions. For those who aren't familiar with the Acura brand, the Acura cars really look no different from the mainstream midsize family sedans.

I think either Audi copied the Accord for their A5 SB or Honda copied Audi for their Accord.

They both look very very similar from exterior to interior.

Maybe Honda is tired of having the Koreans copy their designs? So then, they just take whatever Audi has LOL.

They started sales in October but you couldn't get the 2.0 engine until nearly mid December (at least they were very hard to find in SoCal).

I dont think Bentley owners cared that the 300c mimicked the front end.
and I dont think A7 owners care that the Accord has a sweeping roof line.

Around here you can't turn a corner without seeing a new Accord.. Not too crazy about the tail lights, but the more I see it the more I like it.. IMO it looks much better in person than in pics.
