Pre-Owned 15 or 16?

Hey Guys.. I've owned a 2005 and 2008 MDX in the past and loved them.. Now considering picking up a pre-owned MDX over the next 3 to 4 months but doing some research now..

It will probably be either a 15 or 16, SH-AWD is a must and it doesn't really matter if it has the tech pkg or not, but would like to purchase one with under 35K miles.. I was leaning towards the 16 but thought maybe I'd be better off with a 15 and the 6spd trans..

Planning to put 20K to 25K miles a year on it and keep it a long time, so could you give me the pros and cons as to why I may, or may not want one year over the other?

Although I feel I will end up in an MDX I may even consider an RDX and may post a similar question in that forum..

Thanks..

I really like the 15 MDX Adv sh-awd because it comes standard with the AcuraWatch suite and Entertainment system with the rear heated seats. The 14-15 MDXs with 6AT actually get 1 mpg better than the +16 9AT MDXs. I think AcuraWatch was hit/miss for the 16 models and you have to double-check to see if your 16 tech version had it (only got AcuraWatch on 14-15 Adv Models). I'm in the same position of really liking used Acura's with some Basic 4/50K warranty and keeping them to +150,000 miles (put around the same 20K-22K per year).

You can almost get two 15 MDX Adv sh-awd for the price of one 19 MDX Adv sh-awd with Ent.

Thanks for the info...

This would be my first pre-owned Acura, my two previous MDX's and current TL (which my middle son uses now) were all purchased new and I have no complaints. So since I am going to drive the wheels off this vehicle, and since I've know my service advisor for over 10 years I would prefer to get another Acura..

I’d go either 15 or 17+.

9 speed definitely gets better mpg, however.

I was thinking about how the 14-15 6AT get 1 mpg better for hwy driving since OP puts +20,000 miles per year like I do. I figured that kind of mileage isn't from city driving unless the OP is an Uber/Lyft driver. I set my ACC between 75-85 mph and sometimes 90 mph depending on speed limit and pack I can join on the hwy. Extra 1 mpg comes in handy when you have +4 hours to the next gas stop.

it’s been my experience that the 9 speed does considerably better in highway mpg, as well. I’ve seen others report the same.

My Vote would be a 17+ SHAWD, this way you get the refreshed exterior

I think it depends on driving conditions and driving style. My 11 MDX is rated for 21 mpg hwy. I've seen as high as 25 mpg and low as 15 mpg depending on speed, elevation, headwind, and downshifts because of hilly terrain. It is not worth it for me to drive +400 miles at 55 mph just to get 25 mpg if the speed limit is 75-80 mph.

That's my point. In real-world driving conditions, I have personally found that I get higher MPG with the 9 speed without having to "think" about it. Many others have shared similar experiences.

Not an Uber driver.. It will be primarily highway mileage that will include the occasional bumper to bumper afternoon / evening hwy traffic.. I am more concerned about the characteristics and issues some have reported with the 9 speed compared to getting slightly better gas mileage.. That is why I am considering a 2015.. Granted I will test drive the different model years but figured I would ask anyway..

The 17's are nice, but besides my concerns with the 9 speed, I am trying to keep the price between $30K to $35K. No reason for me to bump it up since I will also occasionally use my wife's Q7 so a 15 or 16 should work fine for the way I am going to use it.. .
