usdmJON's 2013 ILX build

Figure I may as well start a thread for myself while there aren't many users still. Never made one for the previous Acura so why not.

First day I got the ILX. 26miles on the dash was a great contrast to 189,xxx in the Integra.

Quickly with the previous car.. 1994 Integra ls

Very simple build. Bought her like this with 86,xxxmiles and two owners; both within the same home.

Spent less than 3grand aside from the tranny rebuild. Simple slow build.
Sold her for the down payment on the ilx.

Leased with option to buy for the next 3 years. I plan a very slow build until the lease is up. I plan on financing the car at that point; which is when the shit will go down.

2013 ILX Tech
factory installed
all season floor mats
first aid
splash guards
yadayada

Looks great stock.

Bought some Lamin-X fog light covers in yellow for dat jdm look son.
They suggest using water to light wet the light first.
I just cleaned it off real well and did her dry.
Didn't use the screen applier or cloth but the directions suggested them.

Went on easy enough. You can try a couple times, just peel it off and get at it again. I failed many times. Cover isn't perfect but if you line it up with the bottom of the fog you'll never notice.

They are far more noticeable with the lights off. Some yellow bulbs would complete the look.

They are a good protective film incase of rocks and other debris. They come in clear, smoked, and blue as well.

Took some pictures. Did some editing before cosmetic and preformance mods start coming into play.

Also did some chops to get ideas going.

BBS LMs VIP status

Low, yellow fogs, dark grill.

Wheels I plan on getting. Steal my idea and you here by suck forever,
Also grey/cf style wrapped grill. I like it better than black for the PMM.

UPS dropped me off a package.

H&R springs.

Sadly I didn't get any good pictures. Installation was a hassle this time around.
Long story short, day 1 started at like 7pm. Got the rear done quick.
Moved to the front and the axle popped out. Even with supporting the hub with a jack. My heart literally dropped with the hub. lol
We got the axle seated again and finished that side up.
Got to the passenger side, this side handles a bit easier for us.

Took the car out down the block and there was a knocking sound. Drove back into the garage all depressed. It was late so we called it a night.
Next day started a little earlier, maybe 6pm this time. Ready to figure things out; we took the driver side front wheel off and took the suspension out again. We found the cv boot a little bunched up and would you know but the axle had popped out. After putting it back in and attempting to attach the strut assembly to the control arm we let the axle out AGAIN. It became apparent that unless you're at the perfect position you'll unseat the axle.

Got it back in. Drove around, slowly built my confidence. Now two days later and driving spiritedly; she's doing great.

Over excited I took this way late where there was a little light.

Then took a proper shoot today on my day off.

Next is a change to the wheel color. Maybe time for the grill as well.
Then I need to allow my engine to inhale exhale easier!

Comments on ride quality after lowering? I have the same color as you and I was thinking of similar wheels as your last shot, just diff spoke patterns. More of the Volk RE30 design in bronze or gunmetal.

Stiffer and a lil bouncy. With stock shocks that was to be assumed.
Spend just over $200 on them. I would definitely suggest them to anyone for that price. If you cant stand the bounciness, Id suggest a full coilover set up.

Installation was a bitch. Took a lot of patience.

I never thought the ILX would have much modding potential, but damn some of these are pretty good.

Anything can be modded. Just matters where the vision leads.. if anywhere.
I see the ilx as a luxury car more than anything so I plan to mod it as such.
It'll look great as a race car as well; like the Endurance ILX has shown us.

Ordered some plastidip smoke to darker the grill without going pure black. I hope to match the PMM with the smoke then go over it with some plastidip gloss. Should get here before the weekend.

Looking good! A friend of mine knows a guy who owns a printing company so I was able to get like 30 feet of gloss black vinyl wrap for $10. Planning to wrap the front grill when I have time!

Gloss black will look good on the white. I want to stay away from black and would rather try to match the car. It is going to be difficult but just darkening it up will make me happy. It's the subtle difference I'm looking for.
Can't wait to do my wheels too!!
Grill should be done sometime this weekend or early into the week I'm hoping.
Buying paint for the wheels soon after then I'll be content with how she looks and do some performance shit. Simple bolt ons for now.

Konigs are great wheels!! I just need to upgrade my game since the integra. I got konigs then because they were lighter than their name brand counter part and I couldnt justify buying baller wheels that cost more than half what the car was worth.
Now with a 30 thousand dollar car. I feel better spending 2-3gs.

When I get a chance I will. Theyll look great though I can already say. Search google for re30. They come stock silver bronze or special order so the majority will be bronze. Try TL Re30. I know ive seen one on silver REs.

I have no issues doing chops for people when I have the time. But please use your imagination best as possible for colors of wheels as well as the color of the car. I use my own pictures because I have various shots so most all chops will be PMM. Also I have to use a picture already existing most of the time so colors are hard to get accurate unless I find a real picture.

Work Euroline SLs. I'd say 19in. Seriously contemplating these over the rotiforms.

And I did this a while ago.

Some CCWs. Forgot the face design. Only 17in because I fitted them to the stock lips/tire.

LOL exactly!! Thats why I have to hold my tongue when people start posting their replicas. Dont mean to offend but 800 dollar wheels before tires dont belong on a 30thousand dollar car. 2grand before tires sounds right.

I used to feel the exact same way... Oh to be single and have less responsibilities, I would only rock forged wheels or expensive rare or discontinued wheels (mugen rnr's, mf10's, SSR Schumachers, Sprint Hart CPRs, prodrive GC07s, CE28's, and a set of Enkies). I still don't like imitation wheels of designs of currently manufactured wheels but I don't mind remaking discontinued wheels as much. I guess because the original manufacture decided to can a wheel and some one decided to bring it back then I guess it doesn't bother me as much, but my focus and money goes other places nowadays.

For this build I am going for a certain look and I may be picking up some Rotas to get the look I'm after, maybe at some point I will go back to a set of OG wheels but I don't have nothing to prove and I have three kids that I would rather take on a vacation then spend 2500-4gs on wheels, not to mention spending almost 2gs a month on daycare for my three boys.

I don't hate on people who are the way I used to be I just realize that everyone is at a different point in their life some can justify spending big bucks on wheels and others would rather do other things with their hard earned money... I can relate to both sides of the argument and in the end what the owner of each car thinks of their build is what really matters, as long as the parts flow and the build is clean a car can look sick with real wheels or copies.

As far as quality for strength + light weight nothing beats a forged wheel, but cast wheels have come a long weigh (Enkies are light and pretty strong), squeezed processed forged like Mugens are really light and strong too, but its not like most people need the strongest wheels just to roll day to day.

Just my 2cents

Im pretty sure Ill be going with the rotiforms. Ive liked them for a long time and I never saw a huge hype period on them. You'll find them at stance meets but thats about it.
Plans as I see them. Get some rotiforms, Im thinking Ill go with 19s. I used to be so against buying larger diameter wheels. Always told people 1in and stop. Don't go any bigger.
18s look great as we've seen from Swigg, Sumo... was it slammed that had the rpf1s? All look great but I think 19s will be the difference between a VIP build and sporty build.
Plus we saw the Sema Street Build ILX on 19in volks that it could pull off. 19s with beefier spokes should look great!

Nothing crazy width wise. Im thinking either 8.5 +35 or 9.5 +45. Id like 8.5 with about +20 but they dont make forged rotiforms with those specs.

Later down the line when I upgrade the suspension to something better and stiffer I think I'll grab some mirror finish work eurolineSLs. I really like those wheels too but if I get those I want them stanced to hell so I need more work done before that happens.

19" wheels will be baller on the ILX, but a 35 series tire scare me in good old Nebraska.
