OFFICIAL 2016 Acura ILX Brakes issue!!!!
#41
So my 4th appointment to get my squeaky breaks fixed was yesterday and they completely replaced my front rotors and break pads with brand new ones. They say the rear break system is okay and the front was where the squeaking was coming from.
I purchased my car in Feb. 2015 and I am currently at 10,800 miles. He mentioned to me that '16 ILX's sold before May 2015 had rotors that caused squeaking, according to Acura. I will give it 3 weeks to a month before i start assuming the squeaking is completely gone. So far no squeaking; but only time can tell.

Dropped my '16 for service yesterday. Picked up a 15 TLX SH-AWD Tech in the mean time.
Bigger car, nicer tech inside (and more blue lights lol)
The V6 engine is stout, but I definitely feel the 8speed DCT is a win over the 9 speed ZF. The ILX to me feels much more nimble and a more fun drivers car then the TLX. But it's fun none the less for the weekend.

I peeked through the rims and it appears mine say 01/06/15
Very hard to see the month...is it possible if I just bought my ILX to have and 01 stamped on the brakes? If it is indeed 01 should I bring it in for service now or wait to see if the screeching starts? Only have 500 miles. First time Acura owner and so far a little disappointed.

I'm still holding off on bringing mine in because I know my dealership will fight me on it and wont be able to duplicate the problem. It's very random when my brakes start to squeak.

Got my ILX back and sent the TLX SH-AWD back.
NGL, the ILX drives a lot better. Sure the TLX has some serious straight line speed (when it gets its gears right), but the 9 Speed is a flop of a transmission compared to the 8 Speed DCT. And the weight of the TLX just off sets everything.
I'm happy to be back in my smaller/lighter ILX.

Brake update:
Well, it appears that this brake bulletin is really a "thing". Got the call this afternoon that all of the rotors and pads will be replaced, as my rotors fit the advisory for the defective lot. Won't get my car back until Thursday afternoon, but hopefully, it will be a lot more fun to drive without the high-pitch attention-grabbing squeal. Thanks to the individual who brought it to the group's attention. If not for the heads-up, I would probably have received my car back today, de-glazed pads and all...a temporary fix at best.
On another note, I am driving a fully-loaded TLX loaner vehicle. Pretty nice car, just cannot see dropping $45K on it. Pretty plush and has a great ride...that lane deviation option really feels weird the first few times it kicks in, lol.

As far as the brakes go, this is good news! Maybe I'll try to contact my dealership then since they seem to be aware of this bulletin.

16 SSM ILX Prem-Aspec
took my car in for oil change and they checked the brakes and said they would need to be replaced, the brakes are on order now, also had the TLX loaner, will start a thread for differences...

Took my car in today to get the breaks replaced plus get an oil, filter change along with tire pressure and rotation, etc. to be done. Got a nice 2015 TLX to ride around in for the day. I must admin, while i love my 2016 ILX Tech Plus Package, the TLX has a very nice punch to it when you put it into Sport+ mode. I haven't checked the details, but I'm pretty sure it's a front wheel drive V6 base model. Doesn't have the fancy features like my ILX, but still has the A-Spec like rims and a stronger engine.

It does have the buttons. That was pretty cool too, though I didn't have a place to rest my right hand during driving. I was pretty annoyed by that. hahahaha!

'16 ILX post-brake installation update
So...got my ILX back today, and it appears the new rotors and pads have solved the squeaking issue. Also it seems a bit more responsive under harder-than-normal braking, but that could just be me.
I put about 50 miles on it this afternoon after picking it up, and ZERO squeaking under any braking. Last time, after the "resurfacing", my brakes started squeaking within 10 miles of the dealership.
Here's to hoping you guys get the same!

I still have my car at the dealership service, so no word on how it will be after it is replaced. On the other hand I took the loaner TLX on a small 2 hour trip up north and back, and I averaged 36.3 MPG on the V6. I was actually quite surprised. The same trip on my ILX gets around 38.5 MPG. That V6 2015 TLX is quite good with fuel economy.

Got my car back on Friday, and had the chance to drive about 300-400 miles over the weekend with no issues at all. Then again my car didn't show any issues till about 8000 miles, so we'll see if these set of rotors and break pads will do better this time around.

Mine is currently in the shop for some warranty work and the rotor replacement as well. Just ticked 1k miles but the issue started happening at like 750 or so.
Dealer is replacing both front rotors with the proper ones that should have been on the car. Supposedly the ones on the car were incorrect for that model year according to the Service Advisor.

vanderveen44, I bought my car back in April when they didn't have the fixed breaks yet, and even though I had the old breaks, the squeeking during breaking was extremely rare, maybe 1-2 times out of 100. And I had over 8000 miles on it at that point in time. It is possible that you might not even have that issue. I did mention it to the service department and they just told me that it is ok even if they cannot replicate the issue since they are aware about the problem and they will replace it for me under warranty. They should not charge you anything and you should be able to get a loaner for the time that they need for the replacement. At the end of the day you should be walking away with new breaks with 0 dollar charge, since it is under warranty.

Well, I finally took my car in for brake repair...
On Sunday my brakes began to squeal so bad that I couldn't deal with it anymore. So I brought the car in this morning at 7:30am and was basically told that I was the first 2016 ILX complaining of this issue and they probably wont replace anything. So luckily I printed out that Acura News Bulletin and gave it to him and he left it on the seat for the technician. So I get a call around 9:30am and they replaced the front rotors. So overall I was very happy for the first time ever with my dealership's service department. Up until today, I have only had negative experiences with them.
I also did receive a TLX V6 as a loaner car for that short time and I have to say, in sport mode that engine is a delight! It pulls very, very hard. But man that thing is a tank! It is so much heavier than the ILX. I would definitely take the ILX over it any day. Plus it's really hard getting used to not having a shifter.

New rotors and brake pads still squeak
Well I followed this thread and got the new rotors and they even threw in new brake pads just in case. They started squeaking again. I probably drove less than 2000 miles with the new rotors and I'm having the same problem all over again. Going to call them tomorrow about it but at this point I'm tired of this. Already brought my car in 5 times for this issue.

I had the old ones. They changed it for the new ones that are supposedly the fix. They just started squeaking yesterday and today.

I have that issue too. I took my car to my mechanic instead of dealership 2 weeks ago, and the squeaking was gone. Now it's coming back, did Acura come up with fix for that issue or not?

My 2016 ILX premium began having squeaky brakes at 1200 miles.
The brakes would squeak more as I drove more.
My dealer replaced pads and rotors without issue and under warranty. Apparently I was the third person to report such a thing.
The problem has not resurfaced since.

I went to Acura Friday and they replaced my 2016 ILX front brake disc because of the notice or recall on the brakes. Plus I kept on hearing that awful squeak. But I still hear the squeak ? They do usually go away after new ones are replaced or should I go back to Acura again? Someone told me they should go away after a week or a few days when they are replaced. Any help would be appreciated.

I just made an appointment for tomorrow to have mine checked out, I notice a lil squeaking before but nothing to yank balls for.. now I am starting to hear it more frequently at stop signs and parking lots. I cant have this! car is not even 6 months yet! I printed up the article and ready to start slapping the donkey tomorrow.

Brakes Squeeking still.
I have brought my car in 5 times for the brake issue with Squeeking. Finally they replaced my brake rotors. Squeeking stopped for about a month. Then it came back just as bad. I am so over this car already.

Honestly, I think after my lease is up I'm going to be done with Acura. I had nothing but brake issues on my 2013 TSX too. Between the brake issues on that, my 2016 ILX (which have been replaced), and how much of a pain in the ass my Acura dealership is to deal with, I definitely think it'll be my last. Which sucks because I love how much standard equipment they come with and how reliable they can be, but oh well...

Could it be possible that they didn't actually replace the break rotors or just replaced it with the not-to-spec one again?
