Yeah, it seems like Brooks run small b/c I usually wear a 9 1/2 and the 10 1/2 were the only one that felt good and the employee would let me buy.

^That pace is insane. I just did a 4 mile run yesterday at a 7:25 pace. Taking a break today.

Also I have a question I might have asked a while back but forgot... How often do ya'll take off days? Like run 2 days straight then take a day off? Or is it just random on how you feel?

sometimes it is random and also the intensity of the runs. Sometimes i will run 6 days straight.

10 days ago i ran 11.6 and didn't run again until this past saturday when i only ran 2.5 and most of it was hills.

I would say take 2-3 days off a week if you can.

I lost the first 10 real quick, the next 10 are proving to be a little more difficult. But, I'm back in 34's. Stick with it, you'll lose the weight in no time.

don't get discouraged if you are having trouble breathing. After a couple weeks it will get better since you quit smoking.

^+1 on that

I have done both - quit smoking and started running - but not at the same time. Your lungs will recover quickly.

Great run tonight. I was having trouble getting my 2 mile under 18, so I stopped running my flat course for the last week or so and only ran hills. Went back to my nice flat 2 mile course and finished in 17 minutes. Woot!

Finally got my new running shoes. My others were long gone and making it very uncomfortable to run more than 4 or 5 miles.

i hope so. i was told by my coach that for every day you take off, you have to double that to make it up. i think its BS, but to an extent.

however with weight lifting, i know you can get back really fast though

Damn, that's quick. Sorry to hear about the knee, hopefully it feels better in a few days.

My next 5k is Saturday, shooting for 27 minutes.......

spoke to my pt and he said too many cortisone shots will tear the quad. I am going to get a 2nd opinion next monday.
My knee hurts today just walking around like all the other times. I knew this damn shot would only mask the real problem.

I am sure you will do well. If you have been running pretty consistant, you should see that time and possible 30 seconds less. i don't want to pump you up and get your expectations up and then you become dissapopinted if you don't hit your target, but it is very possible to hit your time and knock off a few.

That always worries me also. If something is wrong, I want to feel it so I know to back off. Good luck, keep us posted.

Had a good 5.4 mile run yesterday evening. I was surprised b/c it was like fking 90 degrees outside and usually in that weather I'm exhausted around 3 miles and cut it short but for some reason was able to take the long route. Must have been the clouds. I really should try a 5k or 10k. Anyone know a website that lists different running events in one's area?

Runner's World has a good site and Active.com is pretty good also. You can enter a zip code and the distance you are looking for and it will find races. Even in my little town, I found about 1 5k per month I can run this summer and they are all within a few miles of my house.

i tried to go out for a slow run this morning, and i couldn't make it past 1/3 mile w/o limping. I took the walk of shame back home.

I guess it's time to hit the bike.

I used to play soccer and basketball 3-4 days a week up until about 4 years ago when I started working in the car business. I still weigh the same as back then however there's a lil more pudge than muscle due to beer. So a couple weeks ago I decided to quit smoking after about 10 years which also inspired to me to exercising again. I started out with a 1/4 run through the neighborhood which involved about 3 decent size hills and I couldnt believe how winded I was after only a 1/4. Now I'm up to a mile and doin a lot better. I've been wearing some Shox that I had actually bought to wear casually but I think I'll be switching soon though.

Get fitted for some running shoes. Any good store will have you walk and run to see the characteristics of your step and where you might need support. Makes a huge difference and your runs will be more comfortable

^That's exactly what I'm goin to do. We have one of those running stores right near my house(forget the name) and I wanted to get fitted and see what they think of my stride. I think my stride is weird because while running it seems like my feet are too close together because sometimes my feet will knock each other like I'm running off balance or something. It's weird...

Crushed my goal for the 5k tonight. It was raining and the course had more hills than I was expecting. Finished in 26:15.

as long as you keep running steady, you will eventually be able to lower your times to around 23-24 minutes.
