the new dr said w/o going in he may not know what if anything is the matter. He gave me a 1st in a series of 3 lubricant shots. He says that some knees may not have the proper lubrication. I can't run for 4 weeks but i will still do my conditioning. hopefully this will help me. If not he say that the next step would be a scope to make sure there aren't any problems under the kneecap.
I am more hopeful this time than the last. I am keeping my fingers crossed that i can go to philly in sept.

I always run in the evening after work. I hate waking up early but I work late this week so I woke up and went for a run around 7. Was very nice because of course it is much cooler outside - 75 instead of 95!. Felt good and I am going to try to do it a lot more often.

One on the right for me
In the summer months I used to, and will try to start again, run at 5:30am. It is already light out and warm enough. It is pretty nice because you feel great the rest of the day.

+1 I forgot what a rush working out in the Am gives you for the rest of the day. I dont really like doing it at night because I feel like all the work I did is down the drain just because the rest of the night I'm layin on my ass watching the tube. Plus depending on how late you run the energy boost you get can be a bad thing because it'll keep you from sleeping.

i think i am quitting until the spring. I may still have a scope done to my knee. But i think i need to take off 8-10 months so i can let my knee heal. In the meanwhile, i think i'll start riding my bike to stay in shape and possibly get an elliptical in the winter.
I still can't run more than a 1/4 mile which sucks ass.
I have already paid for philly in sept., i guess i will forfeit that money.
we will see what happens.

^ Sorry to hear, mine as well get the scope done to see if they can find anything that needs fixed. I always liked riding my bike, it just takes longer to get a good workout - unless you attack some hills.

Been dealing with a sore knee mysefl for the last week. I haven't been able to run, hell I can't even walk down stairs normally since 7/5. Plus the weather's been great around here, keep seeing everyone out running, it's making me crazy. Finally got a good brace yesterday, so I'm going to wear that for a few days and see if I can run again.

That sucks, hopefully you will get some answers this time. I took about 5 weeks off and then tried running in a full knee brace and shorter strides and that seems to be working.

good luck - keep us posted. Have you tried running on something softer? I've been alternating with the rubber track at a local middle school - seems to help my knee a little.
Ran a 5k last weekend - 26 minutes. I found a way to run with minimal knee pain by changing my stride every 1/2 mile or so. I can run at about the 26 minute pace but can't push it without feeling the pain. Maybe a few weeks off this winter will let it recover.

nice job guys. I have been mostly off than on. recently i tried to run 1.2 miles each day. Each time it would end in pain and then some days would be painfree but eventually would hurt.
So after 10 months of pain, we will see what happens. I have to take the day off and teh wifey will take me and bring me home.

Can't wait to drive
I have started to run again after 7 years of not running. My goal is to be able to run at least 1.5 miles. I started last week, and running every other day with one day of rest in between. On my first try, after running for 1/2 mile I was already feeling the pain in my chest and upper body. Add that to the fact my legs are sore really sore. Now that I'm in the second week of training, I am doing better, my soreness is gone, and I don't feel like I'm dying...as much. I will try to run the full mile this week instead of running only 1/2 mile and walking the rest of the way. My goal is to have constant cardio training again, and exercise my heart and body. The strange thing is that I can easily bike for 10 miles or more non-stop while barely breaking a sweat, but running makes me feel like I'm dying.

^Nice to hear you are starting back up. I'm sure you will reach your goal. Just remember, you don't need to run at a fast pace because that will only make you tireder quicker. Set a decent pace for yourself and in time you will be able to go further.

don't worry arctic, the distance will come for you since you bike. concentrate on the lower distances and work your way up very very slowly. Obviously you want to stretch afterwards to help prevent injuries.

Nice work, you will be surprised how quickly you will get better. Just keep your pace slow and push yourself. I started exactly where you are in May - long time biker and not a big runner. Now I run about 3-5 miles every other day. Stick with it. How are your shins holding up? Mine were pretty sore for about a month in the early going - keep them iced and stretch stretch stretch.......

Thanks all for comments, this really motivates me to reach my goal. My shins and upper thighs were hurting after the first run, but they are completely fine now. Tonight I'll be running again, and I'm going to increase my distance by a bit from last time. I'm aiming to run 1.5 miles non-stop by the end of the month..definitely doable if I keep up my pace.

It's good to hear great results from other people too
I have been running consistently for almost two weeks now, skipping one day in between. No breaks on weekends if my running day lands on a Saturday or Sunday. Yesterday I finally upped my distance to 0.7 miles, and walking the rest of the mile. I'm doing this slowly to prevent injuries (I'm not that young anymore ). I'm feeling pretty good about running now since I no longer feel like I'm dying afterward. I think I can reach 1 mile running non-stop pretty soon
I did notice my knee is getting stiff as I started to run yesterday. I do stretches on my legs after I run every time, but I'm slightly concern about the knee, so I'm not pushing myself too hard on them.
