what do you mean by access the buttons?

There are onscreen buttons.

As far as power, volume buttons.... I have modded the kernel so that when power is received the tablet will turn on - even if it's dead or off.

Volume buttons are now onscreen using timur's USB rom (which is made for car installs)

Bluetooth audio works, wheel buttons work,

backup cam - Still working on it. I have it working through my laptop via capture card but i still need to get the capture card to work on the tablet

I forgot to take pics of my cuts, i was going so quick to get it all done, but I have to take it apart again anyways.... need to run another wire. so i will take pics then.

Yeah i saw that also.

You need that UVC video grabber, only ONE guy sells it and I emailed him and he wants $95.

A webcam would work also yea but most are not waterproof and they're also kinda big.

I read some people got the easycap working, so ill try that.

No don't worry about it. the part you will dremel is inside the inner part of the dash... you can never see the cuts when its all closed up.

Everything is totally reversible.

lol @ the reverse mirror thing.

something like this won't work for the backup cam? also - have you looked at dashcam apps? https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...eption.dashcam

Can someone tell me how to set the time on the P-81ACRD? Not the car time that's displayed on the "Trip" screen, but the time used for the dimming schedule, the one in the top-left corner of the home screen. I can only set the time zone, but not the time.

yeah sorry ive been busy with other things, haven't even actually gotten time to mess with stuff.

backup camera btw will work, but to avoid hastle your going to want to buy a UVC video grabber
http://febon.blogspot.com/2013/12/no...rsion-has.html
I
emailed this guy and he will send one for $95. I want to use my current capture card though so i need to flash a driver, i've been trying to get that to work ( i have easycap).

So you will need.
Nexus 7
USB OTG Y cable (must have)
UVC video grabber
Backup cam w/ composite.
Timur's USB ROM (must have)

ill post whatever pics i have in a few mins.

this inner part needs to be cut out.

But like I said it's not visible since trim covers it completely.

btw power is connected on the driver side, after dremeling there is space to slide the charger in

Thanks for the pic man!

I don't have to have backup camera (which you'll have to manually activate anyways right? it doesn't open the app when you shift into reverse right?) so not a huge deal there.

And for navigation, what do you do? You use google map and tether to your phone? Or is there any other app you use that stores the map on the device?

@vivid, yes it does actually get signal there. I ran the GPS test app and was seeing like 20 satellites, even in my garage.

For navigation currently i saved my local area to the device via google maps, But i'm looking at getting a different GPS app which has maps in it already.

The backup cam actually will trigger by itself when you go into reverse. You wire the camera to the reverse lights and when the app detects a signal on the capture card then it opens up.

oh and another thing you will need to do a few fastboot commands to disable your nexus's charging mode... otherwise when the battery dies it will be stuck in the charging screen forever, i also enabled firm sleep so the tablet only looses like 1% of battery per day.

Oh that's really cool iCrap ... can you show us where you find those wires to tap into (etc which you use for IGN, which you use for Reverse) in the TSX?

The whole step-by-step with picture will help a lot

Thanks!

It's actually much more simple then you might think.

Now i really wish i had taken more pictures during the install but I totally forgot.

So, for switched power the easiest thing to do is use the 12v coming off the armrest power.

The reverse is simple, when you go into reverse your reverse lights turn on, so you power the camera off the 12v going into that. Route the camera's video cable next to the back seat, into the side panel thing and then under the driver seat into the center console and up to the nexus's capture card. The app runs in the background and when it detects a video signal going into the cap card the app opens up.

Open up your trunk liner and you will see a similar connector to the one i posted above coming into your reverse light, so tap into that.

I will eventually have to open up my dash again and ill be sure to post lots of pictures but that won't be for a while. A lot of this you'll figure out and see as you go.

Again, everything i did is totally reversible so it can be undone when the car is sold.

The newer nexus 7 is a pretty big improvement over the 1st gen.

I like the look of your project....I'm considering this now in addition to the P81 to display ODB engine vitals and error codes....first I need to find the rattle in my passenger seat that's driving me nuts...only 22,000 miles and the car sounds like an old pirate ship.....I bought my car 2 months after the tsunami hit in Japan...I truly believe this vehicle escaped numerous quality check points in their desperation to get the factories back online.

I got a Nexus 7 off ebay! Paid $90 cause it's a 32G unit, but I'm expecting it in a couple weeks ... in the meantime, what else should I pickup? a Y-OTG cable, and anything else?

The video capture card and rear camera I'll do in Phase 2 ... but primarily looking for Navigation and BT streaming functionality out of the nexus 7 first of all.

Nice!

You will want the Y OTG cable for sure, since it also allows you to do fast charging with that rom.

You also want a USB extender so you can run the USB port down into your center console... so you can later attach the capture card or even a USB drive for music.

... and of course some dremel cutting wheels.

I've never used dremel in the past ... should I get dremel bits for regular drill? Or do I need a dremel kit specifically do the job? How much cutting is there? And how do you fix the tablet there? Do you need some kind of L-bracket or will the side panels basically hold it in place against the panels in the back?

Oh you'll need the actual dremel. The drill can't spin nearly fast enough.

get the kit, with some reinforced cutting wheels ( the regular ones are totally useless)

It's pretty much held in place after the cut but i put a small amount of hot glue on the edges for safe measure.

Thanks ArtJ, but this is where I have the problem. On the last screen, I can change the timezone but still not sure how to set the time. Is it the up/down arrows under "Daylight Savings?" I tried clicking on the actual time, "PM 06" and "23" in your screenshot and nothing. Similarly, how do you change the date, clicking on "2014", "JUN", or "11" does nothing. Maybe I'm missing something obvious.

I think as soon as you set your time zone the correct time should be retrieved from GPS.....you hooked up the GPS antenna, right?

Ah! No, I was only testing the thing to see if I needed to send it back before taking it apart. So I didn't have the GPS antenna hooked up - that's probably it then. Thanks.
