Read the reviews -- you get what you pay for. The box seems pretty inflexible to me. If all you're going to do is stuff 2 identical disks in a chassis, and leave it like that, it should work fine. If you ever think you're going to use 1 or 2 of the extra slots, or upgrade to bigger disks, you'll need another box to back this one up to so you can make the changes.

That's where the infrant wins out. And it's only a $70 price hike from that unit (not including the drives).
How much support is also provided for the promise unit? Infrant has a huge forum of members that you can turn to for support.

I don't know if I feel comfortable yet storing my files on someone else's server. I'm not worried about web hosting, but when it comes to personal files, I get worried.

Doesn't look that cheap to me. Back up 5GB for $6 per month? I can buy a 8 GB memory stick to do that much more cost effectively.

It's $0.40 per GB for each additional GB after 5. So, if you wanted to back up your 1TB NAS it'd cost you $404 per month. You'd be much better off within 6 months or so buying a second ReadyNAS and using rdb to back one up to the other.

Well, looks like the PSU in my ReadyNAS NV gave out. Normally I don't leave mine powered all the time, but this past week I just left it on and this morning it was turned off. I thought the wifey had turned it off so I went to power it on and nothing. 
Opened up a ticket with Netgear support, hopefully they will send me a replacement PSU for free because the serial number for it is within the range of units that may have had faulty PSUs.

What the... is there an expiration date on these things?
We actually had the one (NV) at work go out a while back and they sent us a whole new unit (NV+). Hopefully they take care of you guys and your data is safe.

Contact them, maybe they'll make an exception. Or post in that thread at the least. I think some of the guys in that forum are netgear employees from the way some of them post up information about user's situations (case #'s, etc).

Heard back from Netgear support yesterday. They sent me an email stating that my product was still under warranty for the PSU replacement. I called them back today, set up the RMA and they are shipping out a new PSU that I have to install and test before I send my my old PSU back to them. new PSU should arrive in about a week.

The first dept I spoke to said they could do next-day air but I'd have to pay $30 for the shipping, then they transferred me to the ReadyNAS NV dept because they then realized that they couldn't process my request because they only dealt with ReadyNAS Duo products.
Then the Level 2 support staff simply said I'll get the product in 5-7 days, never even offered a next day air option. Oh well. I'm gettin' a free PSU, can't complain.

It turned on just fine and has been performing a file system check for a while now.
What size drives are you going to go with? A couple weeks ago I saw an NV+ with 2TB of space on sale at fry's for $500 (including the $250) mail-in-rebate. I was so tempted to pick one up and have two of them. I don't know what I'd use them both for but for that price, it was a friggin' steal!!!! Diskless NV+ on Amazon are going for $468.

Well, it's back up and running. The File System check reported: "Volume scan found and corrected errors." I guess I'm lucky that it's a RAID system and was able to repair the problems although It still makes me nervous because I haven't been able to find in the admin panel anyplace that states what it corrected.
Between all my photos, music, school documents, software, etc, i guess I'll never know where or what it fixed.

There should be some sort of event log. You can also have it e-mail you whenever there is a shut down or any type of error.
I saw the $468 price on Amazon and I need to get one sooner than later. I just need to organize the office and move my modem and router in there so that the NAS plus directly into the router in the same room. There just isn't the time to spend on it, so I may as well watch the price keep going lower. As long as they keep making/selling them.

I've had my NAS set to always email me whenever an event occurs. However, the information emailed to you is quite sparse. There is an option to send information to a syslog server, only thing is I don't have a syslog server.

I just checked amazon again, $684 for an NV+ including 2TB of storage. Not bad.

Oh yea, I don't remember if I mentioned this or not, but I connected my NV to an APC 750 ES series battery backup. extra protection can't be so bad. The NAS recognized it and provided the option of when it should automatically power down in the event of a power outage.

Mine is still performing a volume sync. 2TB of total space takes about 4 hrs to sync on my setup. Scared to think what it would take if I upgrade the 4 drives to 2TB each when they upgrade the firmware to support them.
