not really, Fido/Rogers won't put the 1g Iphones on the data plans or Visual voicemail plans so you loose lots of functionality. He should be able to sell his on ebay for 300+ though depending on condition.

In the new iPhone firmware, if you set up your email account by tapping on the Gmail button, it'll automatically set it up as IMAP instead of POP. Of course, IMAP reflects changes on the mailbox itself; POP doesn't.

So instead of clicking the Gmail button, click on Other, type in your info, and in the next step, select POP instead of IMAP.

Incoming is pop.gmail.com, outgoing is smtp.gmail.com. Now it works how I want it to. Emails read and cleaned out on the iPhone inbox, but everything stays on the server.

FYI firmware 2.1 is out. I'm installing now, hopefully this will be the last time I have to wait through a ridiculously long backup time!

My biggest pet peeve about the iPhone is not about the phone itself, it's about the massive amount of interference it gives off to other electronics. After coming home at 4:30 in the morning, being woken up at 7:30AM by extreme amounts of interference is not a good experience.

I guess I'm going to start charging it from the wall on the other side of the room rather than just hooking it up to the computer.

It also understandable though, seeing as how it could be connecting to one of 4 networks at any time (GSM, EDGE, 3G and Wi-Fi)...

Are you talking about the interference some cell phones cause with audio systems? If so just set the phone to 3G cause it doesn't cause interference like EDGE does.

I do notice better battery life, I think it consumes less energy when not in use now than before. Besides that and new 3G and EDGE icons I haven't noticed anything else.

I just want that damn PUSH service that they said was coming with 2.1!

Yeah the interference comes from the subwoofer and speakers of my computer...I usually always have 3G on but at my house it usually automatically connects to my wifi.

I still haven't had a chance to upgrade.

my iPhone sits right next to my PC and I've got a Klipsch 2.1 PC sound system and I've not had any interference. even when on EDGE. I do get interference in my car though when on edge. I don't think wi-fi causes any interference. You can be connected to 3g and wi-fi at the same time.

In my car I don't get any interference... Whatever.. It's a great phone and a small price to pay for it.

will update to 2.1 when i get internet back at home.

but has anyone had problems with slow texting? sometimes when i'm texting, the keys are delayed and are really slow to react. i'd have to exit to the home screen and go back to texting.

and sometimes, when i'm in contacts, it takes a while to scroll up and down.

2.1 fixed almost everythng for me. I can now get 3g EVERYWHERE. I tested it in some places that i wasnt able to get it before and it works now. My only gripe is that the speeds arent as fast as before when i did get 3g. But i rather have consistent speeds all the time than peak speeds some of the time. Power under the curve baby.

Hmm... I dont have any of the problems mentioned in this thread and I'm still using the base 2.0.1 version. The only problems that I have had are some delayed text messages and the occasional crash of Safari... thats about it. I also dont have any applications thus far...

If I do upgrade, and it gives me problems I can go back to square one right?

just restore it via itunes. but you have to reinstall anything that was lost through the restore. I upgraded to 2.1 and haven't notice the problems reported. Now to jailbreak 2.1.

I like that case, if I were to get one that looks like it'd be the one. I'm not a fan of cases or accessories and don't have any for my devices except for a car charger for my phone.

What happened to the "update all" option in the App Store app? I haven't seen it since the 2.0.1 update. Is it gone for everyone else? I really miss it and doing updates is much more tedious now.

So I just realized yesterday that the iPhone doesn't rotate the keyboard horizontally when you are typing a text message.

I found it challenging trying to type messages when I was messing around with a friends' phone to get an idea if I'd like to have the phone or not. This one problem is enough to have me NOT want the phone because it was kinda hard to type messages and I use text messaging a lot.

Anyone else not happy with this feature? Do any of you know if there will be an update to add the horizontal keyboard for texting? I heard it's already available for safari, so why it wouldn't be available for other apps doesn't make sense to me.

One other thing, other than possibly buying an app to do this, is there a way to sync up notes you take on the iPhone?

I am not sure if its because I text so much and hardly type on Safari but I already adapted to the keyboard in SMS. When I use the Safari keyboard it is hard to get into a rhythm, although if that keyboard was in SMS I can see how it might be helpful and be more accurate with the spaced out keys. I did the transition from a Treo and it was a short learning curve. The only problem I had is its nearly impossible to text while driving since I use to be able to type on the Treo without looking at the phone, but thats also a good thing since I no longer text while driving

The notes get backed up, but not not synced per say, not yet anyway.

As far as typing. Its easy as pie. I actually dont like two hand typing. I usually just use my thumb one handed or hold and single digit type.

Thanks for the info guys, I'm sure I could get used to the keyboard, but the wider keys personally would make it 10x easier to type messages. And since it could rotate, it would give people the option of using one thumb vs using two thumbs to type out messages. I'm so used to using two thumbs because of my Sprint Mogul that I'm not sure if i want to bother learning to switch to one thumb typing. Especially if I'll still use two thumb typing in Safari and other apps.

As for notes Sarlacc, I guess that's a feature I can hope they update in the future like the other hundreds of things that I wish they'd update/fix in WM6 lol.

not being able to type in "landscape" view is a bit annoying for me too because it's easier for me to type that way.

but i've gotten used to it after a month of owning the phone. i don't do a whole lot of texting or posting anyways, but i've gotten accustomed to it. i'm just not very fast at it. most of the times, i only use one thumb anyways.

I hate when the bluetooth is constantly ON when you activate it. I have to enable it when I get in my car. My old Moto Slvr bluetooth would turn ON when the car is started and shuts OFF when it's OFF.

Another thing is, How do you silence the phone? I press the volume on the ringer all the way down and it shows one bar. I checked the phone settings.

I agree there should be an option, but with landscape typing you would have a pretty limited view of your typing view as well as previous txts you are replying too.

the switch on the side above the volume keys puts the phone into silent mode (you'll see the little orange dot on the switch). by default it will vibrate, but you can turn that off in the settings.

I could live with only being able to see 2 lines of my text message, and they could easily add a button to hide/show the keyboard while you aren't typing messages.

My beef is signal, it switches to edge and sometimes signal all together. At first I was thinking it was AT&T's network, but a blackberry on AT&T right next to the iPhone gets plenty of signal. Otherwise the device is pretty sweet.
