I guess because Android is evil and only the unwashed smartphone heathens use. Android users are not part of the master class that uses the perfection of iOS and dares to question it.

It's also stinky poo poo and for doo doo heads.

Seriously, I've had people get all huffy at me when they ask why I just didn't get an iPhone/iPad instead of my Nexus 7/Evo. Like it's somehow offensive that I didn't want an Apple product, it's really weird.

I would say 9 out of 10 people that say shit like that have had little to zero experience with any Android device. It's one thing if they have both, maybe perhaps they work in the field where they need to use both iOS and Android, at which point if they still say iOS is better...then, I'll respect their opinion. But again most people that think the iPhone/iPod are heaven sent, I'll call them out and ask them how much experience they have with any Android device. Usually they lie and say something like... "oh, a friend of mine has one and I've played with it before". And maybe they have... But for how long? A minute? A couple minutes?

Then there are they people that will flat out admit to never ever having any experience with and Android device but they'll say something like ".. Doesn't matter, all you need is the iPhone, PERIOD" To me, that's just ignorant

But I have to admit, the Retina screen is still by far the best screen IMO

Android is so behind IOS in being fluent its not even funny. IOS usually does what you want it to do no matter on your tech ability. Android doesnt. It takes much more though process to get done what you want an Android device to do. I still need to reboot and kill tasks often on the Nexus to get it working the way I want. Whenever I install a new rom, its a PITA to restore my apps (going to the Play store on the web is fine until you can't see your apps past a certain letter). And other nuances that IOS just doesnt do.

IOS just got the patents in first for the usability that work.

and iknow what youre saying... android has a lot of tiny kinks in its software. Apple for the most part doesnt. I think when i had the iphone 3g it just had one with the texting app, but it was a rather annoying one. Didnt come till the phone started getting old though

Titanium backup is silly, it wastes space and doesnt save much time in the restore. Ive tried it.

what??? Really?? How. I just gotta click which apps i want back and it restores it without me doing anything else... and it saves my app data, which for some apps for me is crucial. I do have the pro version btw. Not the free one.

It doesnt actually back up the apps, its a pointer to redownload them. Google holds all the app data usually anyway

I don't think you're using TitaniumBackup correctly then. And no its not just a pointer. It actually stores the app, and its associated data with the option to restore both or just the app. You don't even need to be connected online to use it. You can even move the Backup to any folder locationyou want which is useful if your phone has an external SD Card (even an external USB OTG if you wanted to) or even to the cloud with Dropbox, Box, Google Drive. Additionally, you can move the whole backup folder to another device and restore the same apps/data as if it were the same device you were using.

Are you using the free or pro version because there is a difference between the two? If you use the pro version, the restore process is automated and you can select to have your data/settings all restored as they were. It also compresses the files and uses sqlite to speed up the backup/restore process which cuts the whole time to 1/4th the time it takes of the free version. I change ROMs almost every day and I can do a full wipe/restore all my apps/games/texts/homescreen setup in about 30 mins tops with minimum configuration (adding Google account, G+, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) each time.

Your backup size will be dependent on what apps/games you have installed. If you noticed, TitaniumBackup backups all of the data including the apps/games extra installation files (that it downloaded after you installed it) which is why you don't need internet at all to restore your apps/games. For your situation, I would do a TitaniumBackup and then pull the whole folder to somewhere else like your computer, USB Drive or external HD and just copy it back to your device when needed. Its safer this way any way should your internal corrupt for whatever reason. Additionally, you could set up a Dropbox, Box or Google Drive account and have TitaniumBackup sync your backup to any or all of the above accounts. After its synced, you can delete the folder on your device since it'll be in the cloud now and you can just the necessary backup files as needed.

HP Touchpad Chargers as replacement adapter for Nexus 7

So I was hoping ASUS and Google would have the official accessories out by now on the Nexus 7 (I'm waiting for that MicroUSB speaker ) but for whatever reason they missed their release dates. I was looking specifically for a replacement charger just in case the charger that came with my Nexus 7 crapped out. (My friend had actually bent the plug while the charger was plugged in the other day but luckily I was able to bend it back somewhat.)

Long story short, I bought myself an HP Touchpad Adapter for $4 from eBay and it works perfectly. (Supply your own MicroUSB Cable which you can find for cheap everywhere.) The adapter is rated at 5.3V at 2A which is what the Nexus 7 needs to charge fully at. The voltage is a little higher but its only 0.3V off the stock charger so it shouldn't pose any issues.

FeV25.jpg

http://www.ebay.com/itm/150893218983...84.m1497.l2649

The quality is top notch I must say. Usually adapters from eBay are shadily built but I have to say, for $4, this adapter feels even better than the one that came with the Nexus 7. It also works on my Galaxy Nexus so I have a spare charger if needed.

The only thing I didn't like about the touchpad charger is that the plug can twist off.
If you don't pay attention it can slightly twist but not come off and disconnect the plug and stop working.

Kept scratching my head for 20 minutes the first time it happened.

Anyone have any experience with XBMC and Live TV?

Something like this?

I've been wanting to do this for a while and its the first time I've heard of the HDHomerun. I'm guessing the same thing can be done with a Slingbox but with the HDHomerun you're not tied down to one channel streaming at a time? (Maybe one of the Slingboxes allows you to stream multiple channels to multiple clients?) Might be my next project...Maybe we need a dedicated XBMC thread. lol.

Just rumors that its going to launch Q1 of 2013. The rumored price is appealing though: 300-$350 bucks for a 16gb version.

Updated Binary Drivers JRO03R

Google updated their factory images on the developer website the other day to build JRO03R. For the Nexus 7, they included some updated binary drivers for the following:

* WiFi, Bluetooth, and GPS by Broadcom
* Touchscreen by ELAN
* Orientation sensor by InvenSense
* Graphics & CPU by nVidia
* DRM by Widevine
Since most people here aren't probably gonna flash all of the images via fastboot, someone created a zip file with all of the updates drivers:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/knb859ua8o...ate-JRO03R.zip

You flash the zip file via CWM. If you are on a custom ROM or not on build JRO03R then you don't have these updated drivers yet. I've flashed this on CM10 and the touch response feels snappier. I was also getting the touch display not responding after playing a full screen game or video. Supposedly this fixes that problem but I'll have to test it more.

More info about the drivers:

Yeah the rumors of the new Samsung Nexus tablet sound nice.

I know, I know - more rumors. Right now we all have a bad taste in our mouths from a bit of untruth that was spread throughout the community last week, but it's hard to look the other way when something this juicy turns up. CNet has reportedly gotten confirmation that Google has once again teamed up with Samsung for a Nexus device, only this time the pair are working on a 10.1-inch tablet.

The real story here, though, is the display resolution. According to analyst Richard Shim of NPD DisplaySearch, who shared this information with CNet, the device is said to clock in at a massive 2,560x1,600 resolution, putting the PPI (pixels per inch) at a whopping 299. By comparison, the iPad 3's "retina display" is only 264 PPI.

So, could this be the fabled "manta" tablet that we saw in our server logs just last week? Even though evidence lightly suggests that it may be manufactured by Motorola, it's definitely possible. Maybe even probable. At this point, it's difficult to say what's really happening in the Nexus world.

In fact, there's only one thing certain right now: everything is a rumor until made official. Let's coat this one in salt until then.
http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/10...-be-the-manta/

Someone on Cnet commented that it might be using the new A15 cores which would make it even faster than the new Qualcomm S4 quadcores and the chipset in the iPhone 5.

If its at that resolution, it'll be an 11" tablet that Samsung said they'd make earlier this year. Also at that resolution, it'd have to be powered by the cortex A-15 exynos 5250 chip probably close to 1.7-2GHZ.

Which would be surprising, because Texas instruments is supposed to have first dibs on the release of the A-15.

Regardless, that would be great news because A-15 is really powerful and will push the limits of mobile devices. It can power resolutions beyond 1080p natively, DDR3 Ram, 1080P Video encoding/decoding at 60 FPS, very efficient on battery life while being being able to run close to 2 GHZ.

It is nice that Qualcolmm and Apple brought their hybrid technology to the masses but now that true A-15 chips have arrived they will leave the A6 and S4 in the dust.

End rant lol.

More Manta aka Samsung Nexus Tablet stuff:

Clarification: The Manta tablet is a Samsung Nexus tablet. I held one this weekend. It's gorgeous, 16x9, 10" or so screen and has stereo speakers. It's also VERY thin and has a front and back camera, the latter with a flash. On the back was printed in giant letters like the Nexus 7, "Nexus." I couldn't get any information from the About screen, hardware-wise, other than it was Manta, and was running Jelly Bean MR1. My brief time with it didn't give any insight to what's been updated in 4.2 vs 4.1. But, that tablet was FAST.

Well he did clarify the Manta was a Samsung Tablet prior to any of the sites confirming it...Every site thought it was a Motorola tablet. With that said rumors are rumors until release date.

I wish they would make a premium 7" Sam/Nexus tablet. I don't think I could ever buy another 10" tab, they're too big (IMO).

^Yup adds Landscape Rotation on the Launcher and one finger collapse/expand notification. If you're running stock and using stock or a custom recovery and can't wait for the OTA, you can install it with the instructions below:

http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/10...stom-recovery/

The ADB Sideload command is new to me but apparently you can use it to install OTA updates.

A more in-depth changelog can be found here:

Any word on when the actual OTA will be rolled out for the Nexus 7? The article I read made it sound like the update had already been released.

It did. Here's the direct link straight from Google's server:

It won't do you any good though if you don't have adb installed. Just keep checking for the update.
