Highly considering a TSX

Hey everyone,

I'm planning to upgrade from my current car (2010 Honda Fit). I'd like to stay in the Honda family since that's what I'm familiar with and I'm looking into Acura's. I was all about the TLX and read lots of articles and watched lots of videos on it too. I even looked into and got to test drive the 2016 ILX and it kind of grew on me because of its size in comparison to the TLX. However, something about the TSX still fascinates me. I hear a lot of people say it's fun to drive and stays true to what made Honda highly favored amongst enthusiasts.

I guess I'm debating if I should go new and get the 2016 ILX Premium with A-Spec or get a 2012-2014 TSX. It's a slim offering for TSXs here in Hawaii. But I've found 3 with under 15k miles each. A 2012 Base, 2013 Special Edition, and a 2014 Special Edition. Does it bother anyone not having the tech package for the TSX or that it lacks certain features that other cars of the same model year offer? And is the Special Edition trim worthwhile?

Any advice or suggestion is truly appreciated!

Take the SE & add the tech you need. The tech package TSX is difficult to upgrade/remove due to a number of factors. At this point in time, if I was looking at the 3 models you mention. I would go TSX! Double wish bone suspension wins for me every time. Apart from that, the TSX is a solid proven global platform.

Is there much difference between 2013 SE and 2014 SE? The 2013 SE here on Oahu is a Bellanova White Pearl with manual and 10k miles. The 2014 SE I'd have to ship over from the Big Island but it's silver, auto, and with 10k miles. Both dealerships are asking for $24k. Only downside to the 2014 is that I don't get to see it in person or test drive it unless I come to terms with dealership so they can ship it over for me. Also, does the slight dip in gas mileage with a stick bother you or anyone? Or does the driving experience outweigh it all?

I have an old '09 TSX with 6 spd.

The driving experience outweighs the minimal gas mileage diff, at least for me.

The TSX is a solid performer with proven overall reliability. Loves to be driven over the speed limit, and is just plain fun to drive.

Get one with a manual transmission, and enjoy that while you can....it is an endangered species !

Good luck with your choice.....

I have the tech package, and it is overrated. The Nav display is out dated, and the speakers like to blow themselves up. Get it without, and add what you want like the others said (head unit, rear speakers). I'm envying the local guys with aftermarket dual din displays.

Get the manual if you enjoy driving. Get the auto if you just care about getting from point A to point B. The difference in mpg is minimal. The weight of your right foot controls it.

Get the proper transmission, the manual! There is no difference between the 2013 & 2014. If anything they may have removed some functions. I have head where the RV mirror on the 14s no longer has a manual switch for the auto dimming.

Yeah I read here on Azine the 2014 TSX (not exclusive to the SEs mind you) had some additional cost-cutting things done to it, like what evo9 mentioned (the auto-dimming mirror). There could very well be others.

I say get the 2013 if you really want a newer vehicle, or maybe a 2011-12 if you don't mind it being a few years old. I should've been more patient when I was shopping for mine, but I ended up with a 5AT TECH. I would've really preferred the 6MT A-Spec (very similar to SE in America) instead. The TECH is like others have mentioned, overrated/outdated. If I could do it again, definitely 6MT base/A-Spec with the JDM double din bezel and aftermarket sound system.

I sat in the TLX when I was getting some TSB work done, and it was very underwhelming to say the least. I was extremely happy to get back into my TSX, even if the technology was a bit dated. I also driven a 1G ILX 5AT loaner, and granted it had the R18 engine and not the K24, but it was probably one of the worst cars I've ever driven. If I had to drive an ILX, my order of preference would be the 1G 6MT with the K24 > the 2G DCT with the K24 > 1G 5AT.

I'm sure you'll get a complete different set of answers if you posted this very same question in the other respective subforums due to bias, but it is what it is. Even though I own a 5 speed autotragic, it's still a whole lot of fun to whip around as a daily.

Well, you're sort of asking in the wrong place... I'm guessing the majority of the folks here are going to say skip the TLX and ILX and get the TSX!

In my opinion, I wouldn't go for the ILX. I'd get a Civic Si before an ILX. The TLX does nothing for me either - seems like a watered down compromise of a vehicle. Trying to appeal to the lowest common denominator.

Now, between the three you mentioned? Hands down the 2013 SE with the manual. I don't think you'll miss not having the Tech package. I mean, do you really need satnav on O'ahu? And anything else can easily be addressed on an as needed basis.

Get the 2013. Post pics when you do!

I would jump on the BWP with 6MT. Rare and you will not regret a TSX manual transmission; it is one of the best out there. As a former kama'aina, I know how much fun and rare a 6MT will be for you. You do not need the Tech for Honolulu.

Aloha, TSX Owners! I'm proud to announce that I've joined your ranks! Thank you for all your advice and opinions. I probably chose the wrong place to ask whether to get a TSX, ILX, or TLX. But I think I just needed to see the passion by each of you for your TSX's to second my own decision. I opted for a BWP 2013 Special Edition with 6MT! It has only 10k miles and is amazing to drive. They had it going for $25k and I was able to get them down to $22.5k. I look forward to being a part of this community and reading/learning more about my new TSX. Thanks again!

Sick choice

It's funny to see how long this happened, but that being said I immediately said to my self 6 speed when you gave the choices. It had 10,000 miles too yeah I have never seen and probably won't a car that I am potentially going to drive with 10 thousand on the dash. The fact that it's a manual is way better than I could dream I have to ask you do you still have the car or no? I hope you see this cause you are the reason I created this account.

For the 2017 ILX, Technical Service Bullrtin (TSB) B17003 addresses the low speed 2 to 1 hard clunk. I have the problem and admit that it is intermittent.

Welcome! While the sound in the Tech Package is quite nice, I've had to change speakers more times than changing my oil. They are blown, Again as I type this. So I think you made a better decision with the SE Congrats and looks quite nice.
