Hand brake won't release

I parked my 2009 TSX in the garage today and pulled up the hand brake.
2 minutes later, I tried to release the hand brake, but it won't release.
The button barely pushes in, and I've now pulled it up so high trying to get it to release.
Note that over the last 8 months or so, the hand brake button was barely pushing in, but it still worked fine.

Any ideas on how I can resolve this issue myself? Or is this a job for the dealership?

Thanks

Pull up lightly to take load off the ratchet. Then push the button.

Or...has the cover sleeve slipped over the button?

Check the rear calipers - one of both could be seized.

The sleeve has not slipped over the button.
The button itself does not push in anymore. It's as if spring inside doesn't spring back.

The rear calipers look pretty normal to me.
What exactly would I be checking?

There are levers on each of the caliper, that are actuated by the parking brake cable. Sometimes (often) these levers become stuck (and interfere with the parking brake handle to go back down) . So you need to check manually whether the levers are moving freely - they are spring loaded (i.e. returning to the "release position") when then parking brake is off.

OP is having issues getting the lever in the cabin to go down.

Like his car took a viagra and now needs to see a doctor due to the effects lasting longer than desired.

Not related to the caliper release

Same thing happened to me the other day and I automatically thought of this thread. I hope you got it fixed by now but here's how I ended up fixing mine. I pulled the hand brake handle off and then the button released with no problem what so ever. The issue is the silver release button. It doesn't have room to release once it's all the way up. Once the silver button and e brake handle is removed, then you should be able to release and then re attached the button and handle.

Goodluck
