Does anyone know how to disable the running parking lights in the off or auto mode? the dealer told me to remove the bulbs but i was wondering if there is another way. THx!

I'm actually considering removing the auto headlight bulbs.. as long as it's not going to affect anything, like maybe the car's computer or something.

Does the second gen have dedicated DRLs or does it use the high beams like the Canadian first gens did?

so then obviously taking out the DRL bulbs would also be taking
out your high beam bulbs. which would mean it would effect your ability
to use high beams... you wouldn't have any.

If it's anything like what our canuckian brethren experienced when trying to remove the relay on the 1st gen, you'll get CEL that doesn't go away until the lights are reconnected. There is an option to rig up some resistors and crap to the wiring harness so it thinks the lights are still plugged in but that seems like way more work than it's worth. I don't even know if that approach is an option on the second gen either.

I don't really see the point. It's barely enough to be seen, and it uses up battery life.

Umm, how does it effect battery life? If the DRLs are only one when the car is running, the alternator is providing the current to run them, not the battery.

And it's plenty enough to be seen. It seems pretty stupid to disable a safety feature just because you don't understand it.

I personnally think it is stupid to disable a great safety feature.But if you must, if you read your owners manual,there is a fuse listed just for the DRL's. The manual is the little book that should be in your glove box. Unwrap it and read it. You might even find some answers to many of lifes other questions.

In 1st gen Canadian models with DRL, removing the fuse caused the CEL to come on.

That could very well be true with the 2nd gen. as well. I have not tried, as I see the value in driving with DRLs. I do believe there are members here that have removed the fuse. Cannot say if they have chosen to drive without the DRLs and have the CEL on,or if the CEL did not come on.

they are always on for safety. just take out the bulbs if they bother u so much.

Try reading the thread. It's not feasible to take out the bulbs since they double as the high beams.

just my .02... on my 07 TL, if the emergency brake is engaged while the car is on, the DRL's do not light up... not sure if it does that on 1st/2nd Gen TSX, maybe someone here can confirm that?

This is of course assuming you want them off while getting hanky panky parked in that alley :P

The e-brake does not disable them. I don't unerstand the fuss, if it helps from someone pulling out in front of you, you can't notice it when you are in the car, and it does not distract the looks, then why? Do you change out your ground fault interupter plug in your bathroom because you do not like the red button on it too????

Perhaps you want to go into stealth mode to cruise the neighborhood at night looking for prey??? If that is the case, get another car and don't tarnish the brand.

The one legitimate place I could see one wanting to have the DRL lights turn off is when you're parked. If you've got the hand brake on, your (probably) not going anywhere. For instance, waiting to pick some one up with the heat/AC/radio on. It seems like an oversight on Acura's part as the TL behaves like that.

If you start your car with the handbrake on the DRLs will not come on until you release the handbrake. Engaging the handbrake with the car running will not disable them. You must turn off the car, set the handbrake then restart the car in order to go stealth mode.

Sounds like it was designed by an ex microsoft engineer! Is yours an automatic? I have a manual and it comes on in both combinations.

Unplug the pigtaiks and install a 2ohm resistor in both pigtails. This way the drl light on the dash will go out.

At a drive in movie theater, Acura fail! tailgate lifted with my key to aux... battery dies. Can't start car because DRL come on...Can't use car for radio, seating. Any hacks?

I tried numerous things however, most of them are flagged by computer. I did disconnect the fuse which in my 2013 is located in the fuse box under the hood just above the left shock tower looking at the motor.It still flags an annoying message in he display saying Check DRL System but i just live with it. I don't really care about so called safety feature of these lights if you can't see my MDX headed at you the lights are probably not going to matter anyway.

Add a relay inbetween (inline) the hi beam/DRL hot wire at the light (relay load bearing side). Run the trigger ground wire into the cabin at the driver area. Add a on/off switch to the grounding trigger wire. The switch will disable and enable the hi beam/DRL as needed. Done.

In the on position, the hi beam/DRL will work as normal.

A 6 ohm resistor on the DRL circuit will put out the MID warning on a 2nd gen.

This never happened to my 2010, I just pulled the fuse and done no errors, but I guess its not the same on 2012+

If you want to park with the lights off but the car running turn the car off pull the parking brake and then turn the car back on and the lights will stay off.
