MS can go suck a fat D.

But after my dealing with Sony reps last month...and prepping a new Sony camera today, Im ready to tell them to jump off a cliff, too.

some people suspect that Sony was baiting Microsoft into thinking that the PS4 would be saddled with DRM... link

Something tells me that this generation was a result of a long chess game, years in the making, between microsoft and sony, using the developers as pawns. Sony most likely led microsoft on into believing the DRM was the thing (hence the leaked patents). Microsoft jumped at it, and proudly announced it thinking Sony had also invested in something similar. Microsoft kept its confidence until tonight when Jack Tretton announced "Checkmate" and smiled a delectable smile while savoring the victory.
explains SCEA CEO's impeccably smug face when discussing DRM:

http://www.techspot.com/news/51227-s...sed-games.html

Sony has applied for a patent on a hardware-based DRM technology that would let the company block second-hand games. Filed last September, the application (PDF) hadn't been published until this week and it's unclear if or when the patent will be awarded. The document outlines an "electronic content processing system, electronic content processing method, package of electronic content, and use permission apparatus" that "reliably restricts the use of electronic content dealt in the second-hand markets."

To accomplish that, Sony would outfit its retail game discs with radiofrequency tags and programmable memory chips. When inserted into a system, the disc would wirelessly collect unique information about the console. If someone attempted to play it on a different machine, the identifying data stored on the disc wouldn't line up and some form of block would be imposed, though the details are slim here.

Perhaps the block would be as straightforward as requesting a flat rate fee to unlock the game, but it might be more elaborate and lock only certain portions of the content. For instance, maybe it would allow access to the first level or two of a game or only prevent folks from playing multiplayer, such as the $10 "Online Pass" employed in recent years by EA and Ubisoft. Perhaps Sony wouldn't enforce anything outright, allowing developers and publishers to choose what content to block -- if any at all.

Of course, there's also the possibility that this patent will go unused, but many console gamers are concerned that won't be the case given the information purportedly leaked about Sony's next-gen console. Last March, Kotaku published details on the PlayStation 4, including a new measure that would block used games. At the time, folks took that to mean that the PS4 would require an Internet connection, but for whatever it's worth, that doesn't seem to be the case with Sony's proposed RFID DRM.

GOD DAMN. brb, gotta take care of this rock hard erection that I now have.

and btw, if you guys still are on the fence, you can access Netflix on the Wii U and PS4 without any subscription. For the PS4 you need PS+ only to play games online.

because that's how it's been for the past 30 years. For PC the DRM is tolerable because Steam sales can cut a game's price in half and then some. and you can still play at a friend's house, they just need to have the game installed.

Microsoft definitely shit the bed on this one, but Sony's artful scheming set them up for it, it seems. I've never come anywhere close to being a Sony fanboy - quite the opposite actually - but this changes it all.

Sony Sticks it to Microsoft on Used Games and Always-Online - E3 2013 Sony Conference - YouTube
awesome.

I also think it has to do with Sony's track record and how they were notorious for doing exactly what they are not doing this time. It makes the company look good, it makes it look like someone up there actually took some time to consider their past and the way the public perceives them and make a marked change in their model. Go Sony!

Nicely played, Sony.

And I'm eagerly waiting for the amusing debates in here and online about which console is better.

Like Sony or MS is family or something.

I pre-ordered one as well.... for uh... me...

But I was torn: I have both a 360 and ps3 and was really expecting to buy the Xbox One this time around... but E3 put the nail in the coffin. Until Microsoft lifts the stupid restrictions, I refuse to buy the Xbox Done.

I bought a Mophie for iphone from bestbuy last week - only because it was convenient and right in the area I was at - and because I needed it right then - I think the time I went before that was for COD MW3 midnight event
