PS4, PS5: Gran Turismo 7

PlayStation 4: Sony developer announces Gran Turismo 7 will be released next year

23 Nov 2013 19:10 Gran Turismo 7 will be launched on PS4 in 2014 despite the sixth in the series not even being available yet on PlayStation 3

The race is on: Gran Turismo 6 is on its way - but so is number 7

The latest installment in the iconic Gran Turismo series could be hitting PS4 in the new year according to the game's creator.

Even though Gran Turismo 6 hasn't landed on PS3 yet, there are already plans for the sequel to be launched on the PlayStation 4 .

Polyphony Digital CEO Kazunori Yamauchi told Top Gear: "We don't want to take too long on Gran Turismo 7. Best-case scenario? Next year.

"In GT6 we really had to tune the software 100 percent to maximize the PS3's architecture, but of course the PS4's hardware is much better, so I think the overall quality of the game across the board will be boosted when you come to play it."
When asked about competition from Microsoft's Forza Motorsport 5, he said: "We always respect our competition. The racing genre isn't really that big in its entirety, so I'm glad that everyone works hard to boost the genre as a whole."
Yamauchi began working on the original Gran Turismo in 1992 and it took he and six colleagues five years to complete with the game rolling out on PlayStation in 1997.
The Guinness Book of Records awarded the series seven world records including "Largest Number of Cars in a Racing game", "Highest Selling PlayStation Game", "Oldest Car in a Racing Game", and "Largest Instruction Guide for a Racing Game."

What a misleading article title. He never says it will be. He says, "Best-case scenario? Next year".

We all know how long GT development is. I would wager Holiday 2015 at the earliest.

I think they'll do it in 2014. The PS4 needs some solid titles - at the moment, it doesn't really have any. A PS4 version will spur sales of the console. So it's not surprising to me that they would want to get it out quicker. And also given the PS4's architecture, as he said, it doesn't sound far-fetched to me that they would have it ready soon.

Well yea, but look at ps3. Console came out in 2006. GT5 in 2010. 4 years after

Anyways.. We shall see. I'd like for it to come out next year. But I'm not getting my hopes up.

They'll be under pressure from Sony to release it in 2014. So they will release GT7 Prologue, a half baked title with only 10 cars, half are variants of the GT-R.

I kind of agree with Srika that it could happen next November because from what I've read the PS3's architecture for developing games was rough for developers. I've read that some developers think the PS4 architecture is easier to develop for. If that's the case, then we could see a faster turnaround time. However, it probably won't fully milk the PS4's potential like GT6 will the PS3's. I've heard that the new Forza wasn't holy shit XBox One impressive but that's hearsay. Will be interesting how 2014 will fare for PS4 with big titles like this one and Metal Gear.

How can Polyphony possibly build next gen 3d rendered cars and tracks, all in time for 2014? Are we going to have PS3 modeled cars scaled up like they did for GT4? If so, no thanks. Nothing like ruining my driving experience by having a full interior in one car, and some shadows in another.

bigman! how you been.

I am going to offer my theory on this, from my (limited but hands-on) understanding of 3D modeling. The big legwork has already been done with the PS3 version. That is, those models were already quite high in their complexity. If those models were converted and imported into the PS4 environment, they would scale up to match the PS4's graphics engine. And this is because a 3D model as it exists in wireframe state, can be rendered in whatever graphics environment needed. It will scale down or scale up as needed. I *do not* think it would be feasible or even reasonable for them to redo all the car models for the PS4 version of the game. The complexity is already there.

A couple more things to consider, the company is still struggling overall, and they know GT is a cashcow for them. PS4 does not have a strong racing platform yet (or arguably any platform) - and given the sales of PS4, they know they are essentially sitting on an instant hit with the next GT. So I think they will be moving to get it out as quick as they can.

I have translated the article posted in Zahara thread - a bit easier to read than what g translate produced.

(http://www.quattroruote.it/news/vid...o_le_parole_del_creatore_di_gran_turismo.htm l)

Mr Yamauchi, what is your favorite racing series ?

I regularly watch Formula 1 but other series are harder to follow as they are not carried (by local TV). While in USA I had a chance to watch live Nascar event and it was incredible: on the stands you can find 200 thousand spectators regardless of how important is the event. The Japanese Super GT is also very interesting and technologically advanced.

What aspects of Gran Turismo could get better on the next gen consoles apart of graphical compartment ? Is there something that could not be done till today but became possible thanks to new hardware ?

I still cannot go into detail, but developing on PS3 was hard: you don't have enough memory to do all you want. Our goal was to always preserve the feel of Gran Turismo but with the latest installment we had to face limitations.

With PS4 we have a lot of memory available: we'll be able to exploit it easily, inserting elements that we had to force or withheld on PS3.

There will be better graphics, better physics engine, smarter AI and more online options.

Let's talk about GT Academy: Jann Mardenborough, one of the winners of past editions is now racing in GP3 class and one day could make his way into Formula 1: what do you think about that ?

Since the very beginning I thought that a GT Academy winner could become an F1 driver - it's not easy though. In any case the results are not everything: it's incredible to see this guys fighting for their chance, reaching high levels. This people have the power to change things, to leave a mark.

What will be the the most important and distinctive characteristic of Gran Turismo 7 ?

() I cannot answer that right now, we're planning to launch big updates for GT6 soon. GT7 obviously will be a title faithful to the spirit of the series.

Vision Gran Turismo is almost like a game within a game, a sort of "stage" to show off the special, one-off cars created by the manufacturers, a powerful instrument of innovation and in part a way of developing new cars. Will GT7 have the same approach ?

Response of the manufacturers to Vision Gran Turismo was a surprise also for me. Designers are thrilled to work on it and I'm sure that the project will continue with the same enthusiasm. Just how it is for GT Academy pilots, the blossom of new ideas is always and amazing event.

A lot of Gran Turismo fans would like a detailed and realistic damage system: can we expect anything on that front in GT7 ?

Damage is a part of the physics in the game. In the future we will certainly work to upgrade the system.

so, you've decided not to buy GT7 for PS4 because GT6 for PS3 disappointed you.

Well it will look better on PS4 obviously, but my reasoning of not buying it is because of the disappointment of GT6. other than the Vision VGT, you can't tune the other vision cars. to be more creative with the cars, they give us to paint the calipers. I mean on forza you can have more creativity and you can swap motors in the game.

To me unless this is a big improvement from GT6 and stacks up to forza, i wouldn't be purchasing it.

Forza really restricts you too. We've had the same wheel options since Forza 3 I think, if not definitely Forza 4. Cars are brought back over all the time, hardly anything new.

Label me a skeptic, but I don't see it coming out until Holidays 2015 at the earliest, with 2016 being more probable. Hopefully by then we'll see a price drop on the PS4 hardware and more games to make the purchase easier to justify.

PS4 to Make ?Incredible Difference? for Gran Turismo 7, says Kazunori Yamauchi

PS4 to Make “Incredible Difference” for Gran Turismo 7, says Kazunori Yamauchi

October 12th, 2014 by Jordan

While speaking to GamesTM magazine in a recent interview, Kazunori Yamauchi made some interesting comments regarding the development of Gran Turismo 7, which is apparently set to benefit greatly from the power of the PlayStation 4 console:
“Everything will be running naturally,” Yamauchi assured us. “PS3 was much, much more difficult. The high quality of data that we have being rendered on the PS4 I think is going to make an incredible difference.”

He went on to mention Polyphony Digital’s vision for GT7:
“For GT7, myself and my staff have a clear vision: to do everything we couldn’t do in GT6. We want to make it very Gran Turismo. By that I mean it’s going to be a game that matches the very era that we live in, in 2015 or 2016.”
To describe the game as one which “matches the very era we live in” is an interesting choice of words, and will no doubt be a topic of debate in our GT7 forums for months to come. Check out the latest issue of GamesTM magazine for their complete interview with Kazunori.

Thanks to sems4arsenal for the tip!

They are going to pull the plug at the last min on GT7 (like Acura did with the NSX) and start working on a new GT8

Or like Honda, Polyphony will "benchmark" their game against an already-released current game one-two years after said game was released...

The multi award winning Gran Turismo series is coming exclusively to PlayStation 4...introducing GT Sport.

Building on its legacy as the most realistic and accessible driving simulator, GT Sport has partnered with the FIA to push the boundaries of racing games. In addition to everything you'd expect from a GT, the team at Polyphony and the FIA are introducing an online racing series that will be recognised alongside real world motor racing by the FIA.

Entering BETA in 2016 GT Sport is being developed by the award winning team at Polyphony Digital.

Need to get a PS4....
Hopefully there are some improvements over GT6, more specifically engine notes.
Brother-in-law has a PS4, may have to 'borrow' it for a bit.

Quick Reply: PS4, PS5: Gran Turismo 7
