I really hope they'll drop the requirement of being a XBOX Live Gold member just so I can stream Hulu+ or Netflix. It's really b/c of this I stopped using my X360 and play mainly the PS3. Well that and the Blu-Ray drive... but that part will be addressed with the XBOX One. I know they won't change it... but it's annoying. How can you position yourself as an entertainment center if you charge people to access stuff they already pay to subscribe to?

I'm just going to wait and see as more details come out. Still 6 mos to go and we don't know jack about PS4. But I will say PS4 would have to bring serious wood for me to go back to them. I've had wayyyyy too many issues with Sony and personally should've went 360.

There has been a huge change, but gamers will always want their console/PC. I personally have never played a mobile game for more than a couple weeks. I get tired of them quickly. Also have never bought a paid game because I know I'll stop after a couple weeks.

What you say about people not using what its capable of. That is with pretty much everything though, so its not really a strong argument. Its like a smartphone. People use it to text/call/facebook/instagram/internet. Thats it. I still have yet to see one person ever talk to their phone or use any tricks like multitasking. Same goes with computers and so on.

this is the thing I never understood. The apps that already require a fee should be available for everyone. Things like ESPN, access to fios tv, skype, etc should be for gold, leave out netflix, hulu +

I'm pretty sure it will be better than the 360 and I don't think i am switching over to PS4. Xbox hasn't disappointed in my eyes (besides having me pay for DLC after i brought the game = car packs), I remember people talking smack about the 360 when it came out. If you are a gamer, your a gamer. i know i'm not playing no games on a dam phone, thats for sure.

Microsoft applies for patent to use Kinect to spy on you for the MPAA

Microsoft has filed for a Kinect-related patent, and it’s a doozy of an application. The abstract describes a camera-based system that would monitor the number of viewers in a room and check to see if the number of occupants exceeded a certain threshold set by the content provider. If there are too many warm bodies present, the device owner would be prompted to purchase a license for a greater number of viewers.

No, really. It’s that blunt. From the abstract: “The users consuming the content on a display device are monitored so that if the number of user-views licensed is exceeded, remedial action may be taken.”

http://www.extremetech.com/gaming/13...u-for-the-mpaa

if you want to play games, get a PS4 or Wii U, If you want to be spied on by the MPAA, get an XBox one

What in the mother fucking shit? The 4chan screen cap I posted was merely a joke

Microsoft and the MPAA should go ahead and just rub dicks with each other already. Next thing you know, they partnership with the RIAA to use the microphone to detect the music you're listening to and then check to see if it's legally acquired.

Can they make people want the Xbox One any less? Next thing you know, they'll shit the bed by announcing a price hike for Xbox Live at E3. For those premium services... like watching TV.

From what it looks like, Gamefly won't be able to rent out Xbox One games.

I was really looking forward to the new Xbox.. If they are going to basically cripple the access to used games, then I won't be buying one. I rarely buy games, let alone new ones. I either get them off Gamefly, beat them and send them back or buy them used.

Should be interesting in the next few weeks.

if Microsoft does it, you can be sure they already confirmed the other major players were on their way to do the same thing.

they are dumb, but not that dumb.

they wont cripple used games unless at LEAST sony plans on doing the same. it would be the worst business move in history.

The more I hear about the new Xbox the more I don't like it. Making you buy a license for having too many people in the room? Fuck that noise. I may end up getting a PS4 after all.

I just hope they redesign the god awful PS3 controller.

but I hate everything...

The Xbox's biggest advantage has and always will be the controller. Its the best, can't deny it.

That said...there was a paradigm shift 3-4 years ago. Where Xbox had the best exclusives and a solid foundation...and Playstation just sucked. And suddenly PS3 had really great exclusive titles...and Xbox got weak and the interface got overly complicated/weighed down with crap.

The controller on the Xbox will always be better...BUT the controller for the PS3 is still very usable, and once you get used it, it works just fine.

Seriously half this thread is full of hate on things that aren't real. Wtf, this isn't happening. So they filed for a patent that may or may not even do that. You know that isn't going to happen if you have any logical sense.

Games are moving into the hard drive, just how content now a days are just moving away from CD's/DVD's everywhere. So they need a way making sure I dont buy it download it on my xbox and give it to everyone. I don't agree with a fee and I would hate it, but its just a rumor at this point and only that. But if you have to go online to fill out something to transfer accounts thats reasonable, a fee isn't though. Especially if its more than $1

Xbox One games will require internet 'spot checks', but Microsoft won't charge to authenticate used games
Does the Xbox One actually require an internet connection? Will used game buyers or sellers have to pay an extra fee? Microsoft hasn't made it clear, but a report at Polygon now claims that the answers are "yes" and "no" respectively. According to the publication's sources, Xbox One games will phone home to Microsoft servers on a regular basis to verify that their users own the games. If you buy a used title, however, Polygon claims that you won't have to pay Microsoft for a fresh license to the game.

Simply popping in the game disc and installing it will reportedly establish lawful ownership as far as Microsoft's servers are concerned. When you install the game on your Xbox One, you'll be deauthenticating it on the previous owner's account, according to Polygon.

Despite Microsoft's recent attempts to walk back the discussion about the requirement for an internet connection and how the Xbox One will deal with used games, Polygon's report more or less fits with what Microsoft exec Phil Harrison already told reporters at the show. He suggested that the Xbox One would phone home once every 24 hours to make sure games were being played by their owners, and that friends could play a game for free as long as an authenticated owner was logged in with their account. Polygon's sources say the authentication might possibly be waived for certain groups that might have extreme difficulty authenticating, like active military personnel.

Questions linger

The recent confusion might stem from what Harrison said next: he told publications that if you left a game installed on a friend's Xbox One, that friend could only play the game if he paid Microsoft for a fresh license. That could still be correct: it'd be the same as buying a downloadable tile, only you don't need to download the game. But if so, it sounds like used game purchases wouldn't work the same way, and it's not clear how Microsoft will differentiate between a disc you let a friend borrow and one you resell. We're also still curious how (or if) the company will make money on used games if it's not charging buyers or sellers.

Why do they need to file that patent that can count the # of people watching a movie? That right there should be enough to stop any sane person from buying that system.

No one cares about manditory installs but the largest 2.5" drive is what? 2TB? (at $180) and that the measly 500GB drive is not replacable at this time- talk about being cramped from the get go.

With games taking up to 25GB a pop in theory you have enough room for 15 games at max capacity (OS eats some of that HDD space). If they use 50GB disks cut that number in half. Forget about any paid for content...

http://www.gamespot.com/news/xbox-on...-drive-6408707

So, to recap

1. Once again, non upgradable storage. You can add storage but it is unclear what you will be able to put on it. If past history is ANY indication, it will be limited.

2. MS has a really messed up policy about used games. Most likely there is a fee involved for game sale from one person to the next.

3. It is not clear on how you can handle taking your games to your friend's house to play but it appears to be that you gotta login to your friend's console to get it to work.

4. FACT hardware is of inferior spec to the PS4.

5. MS is using semantics to try and get around the always on connected to the internet thing but the fact remains is that it checks in on a time table and it appears (at this time) you might be able to skip 1 check in or are given a 24 hour grace period.

6. Kinect is REQUIRED to be connected to the console for it to function

7. pay a sub fee for access even to free internet stuff... same as the current 360.

^ Stop making stupid assumptions

What if finding the number of people is used for 3D content without glasses, future proofing the console. Also companies file shit loads of patents just to have it so people will license it from them.

1. true that is something I didn't take into account, but again, you dont know if file sizes will be compressed and also how many games will be stored on them. Also you dont know if its expandable or not.

2. Look at the post above yours, no fee for used games is another report. I highly doubt there will be one. If there is I will agree with you and say they messed up, but I dont think they would

3. No it isn't but it may just be a sign in... I'm sure they know what they are doing they aren't that stupid.

4. I dont completely know the hardware specs of the PS4, but isn't it similar or the same? AMD cores, with 8GB RAM. You dont even know the PS4 harddrive size do you?

5. What living room doesn't have an internet connection now a days?

6. Whats your point? They sell the One with the kinect. So connect it.

7. Yes this is the only real downfall you mentioned so far. I would say it does suck to pay $50 ($35 if your smart) for this.
