PC & Console: Star Wars License post-Disney
Announced 5/6/13, EA and Disney in Multi-Year Star Wars Games Deal:
Link: http://www.cnbc.com/id/100712515
Electronic Arts and Walt Disney sealed a multi-year licensing deal under which the videogame publisher will develop games for mobile devices, PCs and consoles based on the "Star Wars" movies.
Disney, which bought George Lucas's Lucasfilm and the blockbuster sci-fi franchise for $4.05 billion in October, will retain the rights to develop online and mobile games, both companies said in a statement on Monday.
They did not reveal the financial terms of the agreement.
EA bet big on the Star Wars' world of jedis and wookies in 2011 by releasing its "Star Wars: The Old Republic"—a massive multiplayer online game, or MMO, that allows thousands of people to play simultaneously for a monthly subscription fee as opposed to a one-time purchase.
Analysts said EA made a record investment of between $100 million and $300 million to build "Star Wars: The Old Republic," but EA has not disclosed costs. It hired more than 1,000 voice actors for "Star Wars: The Old Republic," which broke a game industry record.
But the game has struggled to retain players, prompting the company to offer 15 game levels for free in June last year. And in November, it launched a free-to-play version of the game.
Disney, which has its own interactive games division, last month shut the 30-year-old LucasArts games studio it inherited with the acquisition to focus on licensing its "Star Wars" brand externally.

I don't think they should have made any deals with any companies and let individual game developers get rights to make individual games
so if Capcom, or EA, or Sega or whoever whants to develop a starwars game they can
I would love to see a 3D fighter based of starwars made by Namco or a 2d fighter made by Capcom
could you imagine a FPS Bobafett game made by the makers of COD

Anyone play Command and Conquer??
Use to play it back on ps1 red alert retaliation years ago. and now I'm on 360 and noticed there's C&C 3 or red alert 3? RA3 looks a little"Cartoonish" to me and CC3 looks like it would be closer to the old school style ? Any feedback on either title would be appreciated

I enjoyed C&C 3: Tiberium Wars and C&C 3: Kane's Wrath.
They're basically the same with KW having some new units, maps, campagin, ect. Gameplay is identical though.
Red Alert never got my attention for the same reason you had. It looks too much like a cartoon.

The original Red Alert featuring Josef Stalin > *
It was like a Harry Turtledove alternative timeline history book turned into an awesome real-time strategy game.. the opening cinematic is still in the top 10 IMO.

I've only played the first 3. Command and Conquer, Red Alert, and Tiberian Sun. I finished Tiberian Sun and was really disappointed. C&C and Red Alert were great, though.
All I know is that a lot of the people who love the old C&C games hate the new ones. No Westwood = don't bother, apparently.

lol, zerg was op. i use to be able to mass hydra on fastest map possible in like 5 minutes. dropped lurkers on the mineral line, destroyed their front with like 120 hydras. the good ol' times..

Even in Brood Wars, where Blizzard attempted to nerf the Zerg, I still felt they were the most dominant race.
My favorite strategy was to start 2 attacks with waves of Zergling and Hydralisks...then, take an Overlord to a corner of their base, get a Nydus Canal built and then take my 3rd swarm through there...

So, practicing (and being cannon fodder) to the Koreans made me become really good at least amongst my friends...almost to the point that they would not play me if I used the Zerg.

Anyone interested in Payday 2? Some review described it as Left 4 Dead meets Heat, which instantly made me want it. It's also only $30!

Thinking of picking up the new Splinter Cell game. Although, the latest Tomb Raider seems to be quite a good one too and can be had for cheap.

But, honestly, this is to tide me over for the upcoming Batman Arkham game. Should be a great one.

I have to say it again: if any of you folks are fans of a good throwback game (i.e. Contra), you MUST look up "Hard Corps: Uprising". Great game.

Please take a minute to take this short survey about video game consumption!
I'm not sure if this is allowed in this section or not. I have a survey that I need to collect responses for. It's a form of primary research for a term paper and study that I am conducting. I know that the Acurazine community has some gamers out there so I figured I would ask you guys! Much appreciated if you can take a few minutes and complete this survey for me!

The only qualification is that you have play video games or have in the past! This includes smartphone games, console games, tablet games, computer games, etc!
Thank you very much!
