But based on past results, are we looking at a 2020 release date?

I never played the original Japanese versions but I did play the NES versions. I beat the first one and even memorized a 25 character password with random characters to be pretty far in the game. The 2nd one I kept losing to the boss that you have to bomb in the end.

It will be interesting to play the game again in 8-bit esp. with how it has evolved into a 3D format with nice graphics.
I do need to play the Peace Walker games as it apparently will bridge us to the incoming PS4 game and the Big Boss story arc.

Me too. I look forward to going through Snake Eater again also. Hopefully I can actually do the sniper fight with The End instead of accidentally killing him off by having a 2 week hiatus. Best video game story ever!

Yeah, compelling storyline for sure. You really felt for Big Boss, the character...did he ever go through the ringer in that mission.

Forgot to post here Yum. They had MGS Collection for $30 last week.
Oh and should we do a separate thread for Ground Zeroes that comes out next year?
And bad news regarding Phantom Pain.

Oh and should we do a separate thread for Ground Zeroes that comes out next year?
And bad news regarding Phantom Pain.
http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/12/...n-anytime-soon
"If I were to put it in Hollywood movie terms, the prologue, that is Ground Zeroes, would be similar to the first 10-15 minutes that are meant to ‘captivate’ [the audience]," he explained.
"At first, something will happen, then the title will appear like ‘bam!’ and then nine years later, a big event will be the start [of Metal Gear Solid V]. That’s how the story will be connected. As far as the game itself goes, The Phantom Pain will take place in an immense open world map, while Ground Zeroes takes place in a smaller open world.
"It would’ve actually been better to release it all at once, but by the way things are going, it appears likely that Phantom Pain will be coming out around the time the PlayStation 4 becomes more spread out. That means we would’ve had to make people wait a while longer."
Kojima explained that while the steady stream of info about the game and the FOX engine has convinced some people that the release of MGS V can't be too far off, this isn't the case. The good news is it's the size of Phantom Pain that's making it take so long to perfect.
"The Phantom Pain has enormous volume, so it will require much more time," he explained. "So, together with the marketing staff, we consulted ‘what ifs’ and such, and came to the decision of allowing fans to at least play the prologue, ahead of time. We want to offer it for as cheap as possible, so at first we thought about making it as a download only; however, after thinking about people around the world, and how some places don’t have the best connectivity, we’re preparing a physical version."
Alongside the obvious benefits of having a better chance of understanding the events of Metal Gear Solid V if you play Ground Zeroes, Kojima also teased that anyone who has a save file for the prologue when they boot up Phantom Pain will get a little treat. What it is, he didn't divulge.
Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes is coming to PS4, Xbox One, PS3 and Xbox 360 in spring 2014.

Hopefully his replacement won't sound like he's trying to imitate Dave Hayter's voice.... That will not work. At all.
And it's great to see they're releasing this for PS3. I really don't want to buy a next-gen console just for Metal Gear Solid. I think I'll hold off on Ground Zeroes until Phantom Pain comes out. I'm sure there'll be some kind of package deal with the two games at some point.
Also, am I the only one who'd like to see some sort of expansion on the Cobra Unit from Snake Eater? Maybe some sub-missions centered around The Sorrow, The Fury, etc?

I seriously can't wait for this game to release on the PS4...pretty much the reason why I bought the console.

Obviously The Fury is my favorite. I felt The Sorrow got kinda shafted in the game, when you compare his piece with the others. We were given the background of each of them, why they became The Fear, The Fury, The Pain, etc. but not The Sorrow. Iunno, maybe I just need to play the game again.

Konami has posted teasers on their official Facebook and Twitter pages, showing an image from last year’s Phantom Pain trailer accompanied by the text: “June 10th. E3. Snake Returns.”
