Hi Guys,

I ran into an issue with my car where it would shut off almost immediately after starting up the engine. I had it towed to a shop and after diagnostic I was told that I needed to replace the mass airflow sensor and the intake boot.

The lady told me the MAS would cost me $1000 alone, but I found a used part for much cheaper. However, I have been unable to find an intake boot for my car anywhere.

I have a 1997 Acura TL 2.5PREM. I was wondering if anyone knew of any place online where I could find that part, or if there was a third-party part I could use instead. Perhaps, there was a method to repair it? My current one has a crack in it so I immediately thought of just gluing together, but that's probably a dumb idea. Excuse me as I am fairly new to dealing with cars.

our cars do not have a MAS, we have a TPS throttle position sensor. so beware of what you are paying for. the air intake boot you can find at just about any u pull it, the one from a Legend should also work.

^ Correction, the 2.5L 5 cylinder does have a mass airflow sensor. As for the tube, you could temporarily wrap it with tape. Did you try the dealer for that airflow tube part #17228-P1R-A00?

did not know, i have a 98 3.2 it does not have a MAS I stand corrected.

Complete scamming like this is exactly why decent repair shops get a bad name. The only thing they know how to do is quote you the dealer price ($655) plus . . . what, $400 in labor to replace a simple sensor?! Wow.

If this doesn't work, and you are sure none of your vacuum lines are loose or cracked/leaking, a TPS may be your next bet.
