Lightbulb Twin engine Acura TL 3G

These are the dimensions of the engine. Look at the pictures and imagine the fitment of our engine.
This idea isn’t original, that has been done to production cars aswell as modified cars.
I measured the dimensions of the car, and this is feasible. How difficult would it be to fit the front suspension into the rear bays?

Well, put another way. If 'wifey' is writing the checks then it must be feasible.

Good Luck!

I have no idea what you're trying to convey here, but I get the feeling this is a horrible idea through and through. You do realize the gas tank is in the trunk, right?

If wifey wrote me any checks, I’d have a real sports car..

The gas tank is in the trunk but can be relocated to the middle of the car, behind the front seats. The rear seats would of course be gone to make room for the engine. The floor of the car would need to also be cut and new peices of sheet metal would need to be welded.

Tell me about it!

You could also go the route of your S-Class (W221) and pick-up something like the guy on the link below, if you are lucky.

That's one sexy car!

This is a really bad idea for so many reasons I cannot even begin to rank them. That said, the utter and complete lack of structural components in the rear of the car to house and hold secure an engine anywhere near the weight, size, and power of even the most anemic J-Series is simply not there, and based upon your supercharger project, I really don't think you're qualified to engineer a solution for that little issue, much less the vast majority of other issues such a project would create. Long story short, if you start in on cutting metal for this project, my prediction is the car will never run again and will ultimately be sold for scrap.

Sorry, I love ambitious projects, but this one needs some tough love.

This would require a lot of fabrication. But I'm sub'd if you decide to do it

yep, probably have to build some sort of steel subframe, like the aluminum one the TL uses upfront. Then beefing up mounting points for the subframe. Also, how are you going to cool the engine? You need airflow somehow, unless you're a fan of fires. And with the gas tank conveniently behind the driver's seat...

yes have multisupport points going to each engine mount. To cool, there will be a wide “hood scoop” where the navigation “fin” is now. A smaller aluminum radiator will sit at a 45 degree angle like it does for the intercooler on a WRX. There will be a sealed channel from the hoodscoop around the engine and out the rear of the car via a port. This will ensure airflow without any smells becoming trapped in the car.

IMO: Probably, one of the most ambitious projects, I've ever encountered. WROUGHT, with CHALLENGES, it seems to me, the entire superstructure, of the car, would have to be re-designed, and the body shell, placed on top. ENJOY

That's sick. Although it's looking like there's about 10% of that Golf left that's factory. The rest is custom fabrication or removed altogether. If you'll be doing this project, you'll essentially be using only the TL shell and front drivetrain like he did. Everything else will need to be removed or heavily customized. If you'll simply using a shell and front drivetrain there may be other platforms to consider. Either way, sub'd for sure

While the idea may not be original (far from it actually), the devil is in the details and this type of a project has far more details than most. Said another way, it ain't gonna get done and if it does, I rather doubt it will be drivable.

Thinking about the time, effort, and money involved in such a project; if I was to embark on such an effort, I'd opt for a twin turbo 6MT model with the 4G's SH-AWD system grafted into the 3G body. The result will be pretty much better in every way.

And less difficult.

How about mounting some beefy electric motors to the rear hubs, removing the back seats and installing a big ol battery? That way you have a buttload of torque off the line. Again, easier than your proposed project. We gutted an old escort and did that to the rear wheels with a mechanical engineers help. It was nearly 20 years ago so we ended up using about 20 lead acid batteries.

It was only an idea. I don’t want to start a project that big and let rockstar down. If say I will, I’ll have to do it dammit.

I still have to buy the 6mt type S to put the Gerzy Bear Performance stage 3.5 kit.
