Carb Legal Bolt-Ons for 2007-2008 TL-S

Are there any CA carb legal bolt-ons for the '07-'08 TL-S? I've been entertaining the thought of adding a 6MT TL-S to my stable so I'm curious if there's any carb legal air intake or exhaust mainfold/J-pipe support that would pass the CA emissions AND VISUAL tests for this car. I did my best to look up this question on the search engine and didn't turn up much of anything solid on the subject so forgive me if this has already been answered before. Thanks in advance.

No such a thing as an exhaust manifold for any 3G TL. Why? The exhaust collector is cast as an integral part of the cylinder head. I believe there are CARB legal J-Pipes which will allow for a few extra ponies up near redline.

Right, well I was referring to the PCDs as the aftermarket exhaust manifold. I was aware of the single exhaust port but I guess 'exhaust manifold' was the wrong term to use so thank you for the clarification on that. Still, I'm thinking there's gonna be no carb legal PCDs available for the 3G TL? I didn't see any.

Interesting that there are CARB legal J-pipes. Can you name any off the top of your head?

And so, no carb legal intakes?

might as well not mod the car if you're trying to get CARB approved parts....as it's very hard to extract power from this car....
there is a carb approved intake...the AEM v2...however, at it's widest point it's 3 inches in diameter which tapers down to 2.5 inches...all for like $250-300...WASTE OF MONEY.
might as well make a 4 inch diameter pipe that will gain horsepower and most importantly torque for a little over $100......but oh wait, california sucks.....and wants you to restrict the car.

$100 sounds better than $300.
especially if you take in account of the gains the DIY 4" intake has over the pre-made branded AEM intakes.
but oh yeah, california sucks and doesnt want you gaining power.

This is why I would never move back to Cali lol.
Look in at a 4" intake
RV6-P High flow cats
A j-pipe/high flow mid cat combo
Check valve delete
Weight reduction?

I know guys.. I hate California's nazi attitude towards cars just as much as, if not more than you do. I'm just trying to play ball while I have to and seeing if there are any options for bolt-on mods for this car that I can actually get away with like the comptech parts for my CLS-6.

If I can't at least do bolt-ons that'll actually make a difference(20+whp) then I'll probably just pass on a TL-S and go for what I really want..

I don't see 20+ wheel horse power happening for anything shy of two grand; the fact is, these cars are not easy to coax more power out of shy of forced induction or an engine swap.

Thanks guys.

And if anyone that's reading this feels they want to add to this or maybe clarify some things, go for it.

In honor of OP's CARB compliance, the next time I see a Prius I'll rev my motor a little bit more to counteract the greenhouse savings.

At least you don't get snow.

I’ve added about 50-60 hp over ten years to my type s 6mt. Look at my signature for my mod list. For jpipe you can keep the third cat and add a high flow or test pipe that has welded tabs so you can use oem hat shields and looks like the oem cat is there. For the precats i use HFPCs and just change the front visible one when i do smog every two years. You can also do PnP manifold and runners to add power and not be noticeable for smog.

Lastly go aem v2 for the intake it does well with other intake mods and has the CARB sticker. I’ve been passing smog tests for years in California

Not saying you're being optimistic, but claims of 50-60 hp beg for some proof (i.e. before and after dynos). Based upon the description of what you've done I'd guess less than a 20 whp increase.

doing the math of what a Stock 6mt Type s is on the dyno and what others have done with physical dyno printouts posted in his same forum, that’s my assumption. If you think the mods I have are 20 whp total (especially when flashpro alone gives 10hp) there’s no point in me even trying to explain. I’d love to get a dyno with real results but I’m not about to pay hundreds of dollars for validation. Those days are past me, for now I provide advice and try to help people where I can

Good luck to OP whichever way you decide to go but the type s 6mt is a fun car regardless of the mods and there are plenty of mods to do that won’t impact your smog certifications

If you are looking at purely peak numbers then sure, but if you are looking at the entire RPM sweep you might be surprised. I dyno'd my car (04 J32 6MT) with an RV-6 exhaust, made 230ish whp. On an incomplete Vitviper tune I made about 250 whp with the OEM cats, Jpipe, exhaust, intake same dyno if you want to look at peak numbers. The drivabilty gains don't translate in dyno plots.
