Question How long did your battery last?

Hey guys,
I got my car back from the dealer after a little Keyless Remote problem.
The battery is sluggish when I turn the car on, so I think it's time for a new one.

I have an O5 TL AUTO w/ 34,xxx miles.

Is it time to change? Is this normal? What do you guys recommend for a new battery?

Thanks...

Some members have been posting that their batteries last two years, more or less. I'm still on the OEM one 2.5 years/53k later and haven't had any problems.

I drive an O5 TL and had to get the battery replaced at only 20,000 miles. Good thing it is covered under the vehicle's warranty.

I wish I would of read this, Saturday afternoon.
I guess I just blew $100 out the window. I was @ the local PepBoys buying cleaning products, when I decided to get my battery tested. The battery was bad, it wasn't holding the charge anymore, since I didn't want to be left stranded anywhere, I decided to just buy one right then & there.
This sucks, cause I actually checked this post before I purchased the new battery.

I didn't really think it would of been covered by the warranty.

Sorry to hear that

Maybe if you call your local dealer and tell them your Acura lefted you stranded on a Sunday and you HAD TO BUY A NEW BATTERRY! Hey, it's worth a shot, the worse thing they can say is "NO".

Mine was replaced by the dealer last week. They tested it during a 30,000 mile service and said it was on the way down. Can't remember exactly what the numbers were but it was low on cranking amps. Replaced under warranty - I have 2005 TL

You can call acura customer care at 1-800-382-2238 x 5 and tell them you got stuck and needed a battery. They may go halves with you on the cost

People who had their transmissions done at a shop in emergency were able to get half the cost covered by Acura

It never hurts to ask, you dont ask, for sure- you dont get!

Mine died at 10K miles. It was the day before X-Mas so I decided to jump it and drive it to the battery place. $100. Anyway, I brought it in for an oil change 4 weeks later, and just gave them a copy of the invoice. They put in for a refund. I would contact your dealer, be VERY nice, and I suspect they will do the same. He told me in the future to call the AAA like service that all Acura owners have during the warrantee.

Battery Lives!

My 2004 TL 6 speed has 32,000 kms and the original battery! The car sits outside in the heat and cold. How long the battery lasts is a crap shoot.

2005 TL, battery dead after 1 year and 10 months..and I had to get a battery at PEPBOYS too...
so I contact dealer and then contact Acura Client Services to file this claim. Now I am just waiting for them to approve this which they state to me it is under WARRANTY....

Battery life

I just replaced the battery on my 2004 TL - 23k miles and 34 months old. The dealer prorated the battery warranty, but it was a nuisance. I had half the cost covered by Acura. By the time you factor in labor, disposal fees, etc. it cost $61 for the replacement. Acura's roadside assistance program was of little help - they towed the car to the dealer at no charge - but it was obvious it was a bad battery and they could not help with a replacement (which would have saved 4 hours of time!).

My problem was a bad cell in the battery. Sluggish starting is another sign of battery failure, but a bad cell shows up without warning. My battery was a maintenance free Delco and I had just had the car serviced 3 weeks earlier. The failure came after a 1 hour drive - and a jump start and another 1 hour drive did nothing to help.

Good luck!

I got about 42,000 miles, 2.5 years out of my battery. Didn't notice it really except one time I left it in the road (to spray the tires) with the hazard lights on...it killed the battery in 20 mins...THEN I realized it was time for a new battery.

My battery lasted exactly 2,500 miles. Parked the car for a few days and it was stone dead. The new one seems to be fine. I parked the car again for several days when I went out of town, and this time all was well.

Those who live in extreme temperature areas- and even us lowland folk, can benefit from wrapping the battery in a case like reflectex or similar. The tight confines of the engine compartment are one cause of lower life than the old days, and rougher roads, lowered cars with tight suspension are others.

We wrap the race car battery and the boat and the airplanes, and have special starter shield on the race car. Why would my street car that I need to be ready every day deserve any less. Besides, it looks cool!

You guys are lucky. Most batteries wear out about 73 hours after warranty expires!

I've had my battery die while sitting in the garage 2-3 times. I don't drive my '04TL that often...but after 2 weeks at most...the battery is stone cold dead. I keep a trickle charger in the garage just for the battery...something I shouldn't have to do with a new car.

While battery life can indeed be a crap shoot sometimes, it can also depend on how its treated.

Running it down dead once or twice will reduce its life expectancy a great deal. In addition, you shouldn't start your car with the headlights on. Start it first, then turn on the lights. The extra, unnecessary draw of the headlights while starting the engine just causes additional strain on the battery. Lastly, a lot of short hops(start the car, drive for 5 minutes, stop the car) will not allow the battery to charge up enough between runs.

I ahve an 04 TL with a little over 20k miles. In about 3 separate incidents, two happening within the past week, the battery ides when i leave the radio on for about 10-15 minutes!

I've got the car serviced about twice between the times of this, but i never really thought anything of it -- but i think it's time to bring it to the dealership.

is the battery for an 04 covered under an 04 warranty ?

Does anybody know how to close the sunroof (propped up just from the back) without having to press the button from inside the car. I heard there was a way that it would close automatically... any information would be appreciated guys.

christina -

you have to lock the doors with your key and turn the key to the locked aside a second time-- in other words, turn the key twice and the second time, hold it until everything is closed.

I had the dealer replace my battery after my car wouldn't start about 1 year after I bought my car. I think its time to install a new battery again because my car is not starting up right.

I have not had any problems with the delco battery in our 2005 TL, but I know those batteries are poor, and the sides are bulging badly.
I had a newer bosch G48 6 year battery I had got for the passat just before trading it in on the TL, so I put that in the TL.
Its got like 250 more cold cranking amps, a good thing, and it was free
(sort of).
To fit a G48 battery, you have to trim the plastic parts a little, but it fits fine and the mount works.
The G48 battery is a bit lower, and wider then the stock battery.

Every other car I had that came with the delco battery had them fail just after 2 years.

I have an '05 AT w/ Navi that was new in August '05. Acura tested the battery as bad and replaced it at no charge in August of '07 after 25k miles.

Maybe it is the 04 6 speed... original battery since Dec 03... but it does sit in the garage during the day..

Have only 18K miles, but miles are not a killer for a battery... heat and cold and having it discharged kills them..

I have an 07 TLS, w/4500 miles. The dealer has already replaced my battery. They were replacing my power steering rack, and said that it was testing very low. So they replaced it.

Mine lasted 11 months from the time I bought the car...but that's not unusual in AZ where the 110+ days take a nasty toll on the lives of car batteries.

I got my battery changed on Sept 5th. The car also had sluggish start. It turned out that the battery CCA went down to 3 (battery rated at 550 CCA). Made it to the stealership and they replace it under warranty. I have 06 TL with 20k and change miles.

Just replaced my battery on 2004 with 37K on it. They prorated the battery as 04's only had 2 years full replacement, but they told me 2005's had the full 48 months
