For those who have the service manual, I need help! 3G Garage #F-052

Can anyone who has the service manual share with me how to remove the 2 aluminum strips in the center console? I want to put some felt underneath so they will stop making popping noises. Took it to the dealership already, and they didn't do a good job. It's kind of annoying now. Thanks in advance.

What do you mean "popping noises"? How loud? How often? What did the dealership do to try to fix it?

I mean cracking noises that sound like really loud rice krispies.
Very loud, audible with stereo on.
Everytime I drive, when the weight shifts.
Dealership put tape underneath, but it isn't working.

Many others on this forum have the same problem. I'm just trying to fix it myself this time.

I don't understand how people who can afford a $35K car, can't afford a $100 manual, but can resort to asking people to post scanned copyrighted material.

The answer lies in a smaller book which everyone has and doesn't cost $75.00. It is in the owner's manual, page 234. If the manual is not handy, the specs are 80 lbf-ft for the lug nuts. I couldn't find anything on this in the service manual.

This spec is given for remounting the spare tire, but I couldn't find any other spec anywhere in the owner's manual or the service manual for lug not torque. If anyone has another reference for the torque when mounting the standard wheels, I would appreciate them posting the reference.

Thanks Ron. Do you think the specs could be different for the A-Spec wheels? I will check my manual.

They should be the same, and anyway the manual is generic and doesn't specify any particular wheels or sizes. With steel wheels, the torque is not that important because steel is more flexible and there is not that much chance of warping the wheel, but with mag or aluminum or other cast wheels, the torque is important so the wheels don't get bent out of shape.

I think Acura recognized this when they put the torque specs in the explanation for mounting the steel spare wheel, and gave the spec for cast wheels so they didn't confuse anybody.

Thanks, buzz. Your link gave me the clue where to look in the Service Manual, and I finally found it. I am going to post it here again so I can have a reference to give when needed. For some odd reason, the front torque in ft lbs is different from the rear torque, but the Newton meters and kilograms are the same, so somebody rounded off the rear torque spec.

Front: 79.6 ft lbs, 108 N-m, 11.0 kgf-m, Service Manual pg 19-17
Rear: 80 ft lbs, 108 N-m, 11 kgf-m, Service Manual pg 19-28

When Sam Walton visited one of his stores he flew coach. Then, at the store, he would wait to see if anyone was driving by the airport so he could catch a ride and save cab fare on the way home.

I golfed with a man who had a 3-day beard, holes in his tennis shoes and brought his own cheap beer to drink. Later, I found out he's worth about 4.5 million.

Are you beginning to understand?

Look in the back of your owner's manual. It lists all the manuals, and there is a service manual and a separate electrical troubleshooting manual.

You can go online at www.helminc.com and see the same thing if your owner's manual isn't handy.

I don't know which cluster you are talking about, but you can go here and look up the parts list for it.

Thanks Ron A. I was referring to the instrument panel where the Tachometer and Speedometer are. Trying to see if I can open that part of the dash. I'll check out the owners manual to see if it list anywhere to order a service manuals.

I picked up .5 secs on the ET and .2 on my 0-60 by that .4 ft/lbs, Ron!!!!!

I am surprised no one has posted a "Will 80 ft/lbs harm my car?" yet.

Anyone whom is interested, I recently installed a Neuspeed short shifter in my car. Makes a world of difference in the shift being shorter and only cost $45. Well worth the money if you have the patience to install.

The part is the same as a 03 and up Accord 6 spd. Here is the link to Neuspeed.

CompTech also makes one too.

I read a number of years ago that the torque on lug nuts is carefully calculated to ensure proper "failure" in certain events. The lugs are made from a material with a known elasticity and stress point. The purpose of the torque on the lug nuts is to "pre-stress" the lugs to a point where "enough" additional force will cause them to fail (which is actually desired in certain circumstances to prevent additional damage/injury). However, the torque force should be low enough so as to not actually damage the lugs and cause them to fail at an unwanted/unexpected time.

I don't believe that the makeup of the wheel material has a siginificant amount of impact on this overall (meaning that one spec can be used on all wheel types). I *do* believe, however, that getting the torque number correct on all lugs of *certain* wheel types is important (to prevent things like warping of the wheel, and maintaining a proper rotation).

I remember Ford's "fix" for an F-150 that I owned that had a "possibility" of a wheel coming off was to increase the torque amount from 80 to 100. So, there's clearly a range that can be worked with.

I opened up my dash to replace the radio which I did sucessfully, except for the fact that I cracked the top center air vent when trying to replace it. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement part at a discount? Is there an online discount Acura dealer like http://www.hondapartsdeals.com/ that will sell this kind of dealer only part? Thanks.
