Window Tint Scratches!

Hi all,

For those of you that have tinted windows, have you noticed any issues with vertical scratches in the tint? I currently have Xpel film on my windows, and this is the second time I've discovered scratches on my driver's side window tint. The first time, I chalked it up to something stuck in the felt that window slides up and down in. However, after having the window retinted, I discovered another vertical scratch this morning. I did have the tint shop clean that weather stripping well prior to re-applying the tint. I also checked it over before they put the tint on and it was clean and free of debris.

I have a 2023 TLX-S if that matters.

I wash my car weekly and it is garage kept, so dirt is not accumulating on the windows.

Could there be something inside the door panel scratching it? It's frustrating, since it's costing me about $80 to strip and retint the window.

Just curious if this is an issue with the TLX. Perhaps it's just the Xpel film, however, I read that their scratch resistant coating is one of the best in the market.

Any ideas? I am going to ask Acura at my next service visit.

Thanks!

Competent tint shops would have installed moleskin on the inside weather stripping to prevent said scratching.

Guess that would be my solution. I'll have another tint shop retint and use the moleskin.

ask the current shop if they did that to rule out that as a possibility as to why this is happening.

I just called and they stated that they don't use moleskin, but they usually don't have any scratching issues.

I didn't realize that all vehicles needed moleskin?

I just went and checked my car as a result of this post. I had to put the window down to get at the inside strip. There's a felt like gasket on the inside and rubber on the outside. Is the felt/moleskin not OEM and added by the tint shop? For comparison I checked my other car and it had the same rubber outside and soft inside. That just seems like common sense to only have the rubber gasket outside to seal against weather. Then a soft inside for the window to ride against as it retracts. Does Honda do it different?
