RDX Aspec to TLX Aspec

Hi All,

I am pondering the idea of moving into a TLX Aspec SH-AWD lease from my RDX Aspec SH-AWD. Has anyone done this? If so, any regrets? I am going to see if I can have a TLX SH-AWD for a weekend test drive before committing to this decision. I really do like the RDX, but I don't really need the extra space and I'm sure the TLX with SH-AWD will handle the Wisconsin winters just fine.

Hoping maybe some of you have had a similar move between vehicles.

Thanks!

I have driven the RDX ASPEC and TLX ASPEC but only for a day each. Honestly, if you don’t need the space and are okay with being lower to the ground I’d say go for it. I had a 2019 TLX ASPEC for 2.5 years and had no issues with it in the Chicago winters and my 2021 Type S is also great.

I moved from a 2019 RDX Advance to a TLX Aspec. I’ve not regretted it and would not move back to the RDX.

Out of curiosity, why'd you decide on an RDX instead of the TLX from the start? Changes in lifestyle?

To be honest, I've always liked SUV's. I really have no need for one, as I don't have kids and don't haul much. However, my last few vehicles have been SUV's, and when I started contemplating moving back into a sedan, I drove the RDX and really liked it. However, when I was in for service recently, I started looking at the TLX and thought it was a very appealing sedan. It would also make more sense given my current lifestyle (married, no kids).

I have decided to hold-off on dumping the RDX and getting into a TLX lease at this time. The numbers were pretty crazy, and financially (21 RDX Aspec) is worth a lot more than my current agreed buyout price. So, I think I will just ride my lease out, buy the RDX and then sell it.

Some things to consider:

1) What year is your RDX and when does the lease end? Assuming your lease is up next year, used car prices may be completely back down to earth and you will have lost all the equity you were counting on.

2) Don't expect much of a difference in fuel economy going from RDX to TLX. When I got my '21 TLX, I thought to myself "surely I'll be closer to the higher end of the fuel econ range with careful driving!" Boy was I wrong!

3) As you may or may not have read, the interior of the TLX is comparable to the interior of the 3 series, C-Class, and A4 competition. You have to be really sure you don't need that RDX room!

4) The TLX is slightly wider and nearly 10" longer than your RDX. Make sure your garage/normal parking space can accommodate this!

Best of luck!

It is a 2021 Aspec. I'm not so sure I will stick with Acura at the end of the lease, so I am just going to ride this one out. I really like the GV70 if I decided to stay with an SUV. All things considered, I don't think it would make much sense for me to upgrade to a TLX based on what everyone is saying and what I've researched.

I'm surprised you used the word "upgrade." Aren't you just moving from an A-Spec to an A-Spec?

Essentially, yes. I think it was just a bad usage of words. I considered it an "upgrade" because I would be "upgrading" in model years. But, technically, yes, it is just moving to a different Aspec model. Regardless, I won't be moving over to a TLX at this time.
