Acura gotta do better. Look at KIA/Hyundai they doing a whole apology and monetary cleanup tour due to their very very weak anti-theft systems in alot of their late model cars
Someone had one likened that going from lifelong Japanese car ownership to opening up and considering German cars is like how a North Korean feels when they suddenly experience life in South Korea.
Curious why you think it would be a lateral move? From a performance standpoint it should be a step up. Isn’t the M340i over a second faster both to 60 and in the quarter mile?
I'm in the market for a used M340i so the less competition, the better for me!

I drove the M340i before buying my TLX Type-S in late December 2022 and loved it — it’s a damn fast car. But going back to one now after already choosing the TLX-S over it? At that point, it’s full M or nothing when it comes to BMW.
Don't be surprised if @GhostTL09 pops out with a G80 hahaha
To me, it’s pretty much a lateral move. The M340i xDrive might be a little sharper and have better tech, but you’re not really gaining meaningful performance over the TLX Type-S — you’re just trading SH-AWD and Japanese reliability for a different driving flavor.

The reason I'm not going for an M car is the ride is too rough and I still have passengers more often than not.

Hahaha exactly. I may very well go German in the next couple of years.
Im not trying to convince anyone of my opinions, but I will say that the M 340i is chosen overwhelmingly due to straight line performance over the Type-S, but if you dig into reviews there are many things equal to or an advantage. Ride quality, seats, fit n finish, handling, ownership costs, looks. BMW faster, better fuel, faster tech (with upgrades lol), quicker transmission, more color options, so its pick your poison. In my opinion its not leaps and bounds as a absolute, but considered an upgrade nonetheless by the masses. I personally wouldn't get one. I'd look at higher M variants.

I think I may have seen your TLX-S out in the wild now that I think about it.
I know there was some guy with a Blue TLX-S that would drive through Capital Beltway and then branch off on 495 heading towards Baltimore. Very clean looking TLX haven't seen him in a long while though.
Im glad to have been that motivation I do not want any other TLX owners to go through what I went through, December was rough for me but I am being optimistic about it all.

Two thoughts:
1. If they want your car, they're gonna take it.
2. BMW Motorsport isn't what it used to be. Unfortunately, they are just too digital for my liking anymore - I'm more of an analog guy. My e90 M will most likely be the last M car I'll ever own and that was a step down from my e46. Although, the M2 is somewhat intriguing. It's just unfortunate that it's so damn ugly.

make sure you get a rider added to your insurance policy for the aftermarket parts, and also share with them that you had anti-theft installed might lower your rates.
Well, technically it would be a lateral move. While the M340i would own the Type S in most performance metrics, the latter isn’t so far off the pace that it wouldn’t be considered a worthy competitor. $.02

I wanted to give everyone an update
So I was notified by the police via mail in the next county over in MD that my TLX Type-S was found about 2 weeks ago. Seems like they picked up the car on the side of the road or parked somewhere in a small parking lot of sorts. They did not tell me the condition of the car but I presume it was in good condition
My insurance already paid out for the car at that point I was notified of it being located, so they went ahead and proceeded with having it taken to co-part salvage yard instead of trying to give it back to me which is honestly for the best.
I have yet to see it come up on Co-Part yet but I am curious to see it on co-part and see exactly what state its in, you know for some "closure" for me and my first performance sedan.
I'll probably update this thread once more when I officially get the TLX-S's replacement secured within the next few weeks or so.

Well I got up this morning thinking I was gonna take the TLX-S to work this morning.
And to my unpleasant surprise the car is no longer there in the parking spot I parked it in. No glass broken or anything, just empty parking spot where it was.
Already got insurance and police involved. Not how I planned my morning nor how I planned to part ways with the car.
I already verified it wasn't towed my HOA knows my car and only tows for cars that are parked with no tags on them.

Late to the news, glad to hear that there will be a full-circle closure sooner or later. Acura is basically a walking dead at this stage. You will be happier in the BMW world, at least until the warranty runs out!
I have said it before and I will say it again, the 19-22 security system is for decoration. It has been defeated for several years already, I am actually surprised there is no lawsuit yet. I guess the thieves were too occupied with those Hyundais/Kias...

As for warranty I got put in contact with a good company for a Platinum Exclusionary Extended Warranty for high performance German cars. So any BMW M I get will be covered for a good length of time outside of any factory warranty that's left, if any.
However since I have my 1998 BMW 7 Series still I am not in a big rush to get another car so I'll probably make my move once the weather breaks here on the east coast and this snow and salt goes away. Apparently we are getting more snow next Monday so I want this snow to be behind me before I add a high performance low slung sports car back into the fold again.
Yes, thank you yeah I am going for BMW M currently eyeing the BMW M8 Gran Coupe so will be looking into market pricing for those and what's available on the market.

Love your choice, 8-series is so underrated. Just a note, 8-series is going out of production soon (mid-2026?). Considering the production and shipping time, you may want to talk to a SA now. I feel for a low production car, especially the M variant, its value may suddenly appreciate when supply dries out.
Used 2020-2022 M8s can be had for $60k-$75k with decent mileage on them. Much better buy financially vs paying up $140k+ for a new one
if only I can find one in Red like my TLX-S was!
