Ground Clearance Issues
Ground Clearance Issues
Hi all,
Just curious if any of you had any ground clearance issues with your TLX or TYPE S with driveways, speed bumps, roadkill, etc.? I forgot that I transitioned from an RDX TO TLX and hit some roadkill this afternoon. Fortunately, I don't see any damage to the TYPE S' front bumper, but something on the vehicle made contact with the roadkill because it shot out from under my car.
I am going to be more mindful of the lower ground clearance in winter as well. I would imagine that a lot of people have cracked front bumpers on ice chunks in the road.
I may spend the money to get some PPF on the front of the vehicle as well. That should help with some lower impacts I would think.

Yes, the front ground clearance is a bit of an issue. When I first had mine I had to adjust to certain things, like high curbs in parking lots, dips in roads. Some scrapes on the underside of the front splitter but no real damage. I came out of an Accord and this was an issue, not just from an SUV.
My driveway has a negative slope so when I used to back out of it, I would scrape the bottom of my car unless I turned while backing out.
I was determined for my next car to be an SUV where ground clearance would no longer be an issue so that's why I got the X3!

Yeah, the ground clearance on this car is a disaster. I drove over a small rock in my neighborhood (~30 mph) and ended up needing an oil pan (cracked), front subframe (bent), and front shocks. I also commonly bottom out on secondary/tertiary roads in North Texas if I can't take the highway. Before the TLX I drove BMWs with sport package (i.e. factory lowered suspension) for a decade and never had an issue. Making a non-track car this low is just nonsense.
i have started hitting the front camera when pulling into parking spots just to make sure I am in as far as I can get without scraping the curb or cement parking spot wheel stop. Its almost become automatic for me. I also have a few spots around town where I now know I need to hit at an angle or very slowly.
