First time I did this and like you said it really suck. I ended up getting rim rash two more time on two other rims before I learned how to park.:bawling:

Take it to a wheel repair shop. :co: :thumbsup:

It's a long process, but it'll take some time to sand the rash down and then match the rest of the wheel.

It sucks but it happens. There's probably a few mobile wheel repair people in your area, check Yelp.

accidents do happen! accidently rubbing up against a curb will happen from time to time. and believe me, every one curses at themeselves for it.

I look at rim rash or getting your first door ding as a good luck thing. Once it happens it takes the worry or even the anxiety away about it and you can really relax and enjoy life.

My cousin bought a new set of wheels and had curb rashed them less than 2wks later. Boy was he pissed.

Found a mobile guy who provided repairs for $80 a wheel and it turned out like it was never scratched, pretty impressive. 98% correction I would say (only cause it can never be 100%...)

Yeah you'll be more careful parking for the next couple of weeks, but eventually as humans, we get lazy. It'll happen again, but I suppose $85 each time isn't too bad, though it could certainly add up.

As you said though, in the grand scheme of things, it doesn't matter. Though I do know the pain of not having a near flawless vehicle anymore....

It can be tricky but if you go back to the same curb and line your wheel up right. Just barely rub the curb in reverse and if done right it'll be almost good as new.

Of course if you were already in reverse when you curbed the wheel just do the same but forward. Ive seen it done a few times.

I don't know your current tires or if you are close to replacements. I went with Conti DWS tires and they have rim protection ridge to help with curb rash. For some reason, there isn't a rim protection ridge on my Conti DWS on my RDX. My TSX/MDX Conti DWS have the raised ridge; but, not as large in this stock photo below.

Nah not quite 99%, but I'll let him know about your reverse curb rash technique and have him report back. Maybe then he'll have 100% repairs...:whyme:

Are your TE37s curbed up? I can't stand curb rash. While it may happen from time to time, I think it's always worth repairing. I've grown to be extremely cautious when parking. I actually always try parking next to a curb in a parking lot, so that no one parks beside me on one side. I tuck to within 2" of the curb. There was times on past cars where I'd rub. And cry. And get it fixed. I haven't done it in a long time though. I've learned to reverse into spots next to a curb, and adjust my passenger mirror so I can see where it is. The TL mirror adjusts down automatically, but it's the only car I've owned that does that. All others, I just take the extra 15 seconds to tilt the mirror.

I can assure you that the extra meat you have on a wider tire will only marginally protect your wheel. It has saved me in the past, but it has also let me down. Makes sense. A bit of rubber will just deform when there's 3000+ pounds of weight pushing it.

Exactly how i park now. Almosy always next to a curb and as close as possible. I try to reverse because the reverse camera gets a much lower pov. Otherwise ill use the passanger mirror which i have to lower myself.

I can't park forwards next to a curb. It's simply impossible to tell how close you are when you're trying to come within a couple inches of it. At least not comfortably enough to do it without fear of damaging the wheel, time and time again. Reversing- you can generally see where it is. If it can't be seen, I'll move and park elsewhere :rofl:

I cheat using the backup camera.

If the outside line of the backup camera is aligned with the centre of the raised concrete curb, your car will be both close enough to the curb and also far enough to avoid getting a rim scraped. Pretty much perfect. I've yet to scrape one doing this.

I'm too nervous to rely on the camera. I feel like I can't adequately judge how close I am to the curb. Maybe with a bit of practice, but the problem is, the chance of hitting the curb is too high if practicing :rofl:

Mind you, my TL doesn't have a back up cam- this is in regards to a Nissan I drive. I'm sure it could work, but I'm too scared to try! :rofl:

For curb rash repair on a brushed metal lip, I've been quoted prices from two different shops.

for throwing the wheel one CNC machine to repair a rash, plus reclearing the entire lip, I was quoted $235 per wheel.

for having a guy manually repair a rash, plus reclearing the entire lip, I was quoted $185 per wheel.

Mind you, these are prices in Canada. I'm sure anyone down south can get it done cheaper.

The lines are always in the same place on the camera in the TLX if the wheel is straight. I learned by trial and error (error on the too-far side!). I would see where it lined up, then get out of the car and check the distance. After enough times doing this I found out what lines up with what. I use that in conjunction with the tilt-down mirror to get perfectly aligned. 25,520 km on the '16 TLX and not a scrape yet!

I haven't curbed a wheel in over 7 or 8 years. If you are careful why would it be so common to hit a curb, lol.

Yeah, Justin has that and has accepted that in HIS life, curbs and curbing are just gonna be a part in it so don't bother fixing. :rofl:...he has wide wheels but I'm hoping he goes with a 315 width tire next go around. His wheels will thank him.
