19 inch wheels

Hey guys. Wanted to get your thoughts regarding the 19 inch wheels. Do you guys think they are worth it? Other than looks any advantage to them? My dealer wants $5k for them installed. That seems a little pricey to me. Trying to negotiate the price down if I decide to get them.

Thanks in advance for all your help and input!

I have no interest in $5K for just looks that results in a harsher ride. From a practical perspective I am negotiating winter wheels and tires for under $2K. But if you have the money and the looks makes you feel good then go for it. What else is money for!

The 19" wheels do look good but they are not worth $5000!!! How on earth did your dealer justify that price? On the Acura website, they are worth about $2600 per set. Then add about $1200 for the tires. OK, so that comes to be about $3800, so that is nowhere close to $5000! What are they thinking!?

I did test drive a TLX with the 19" wheels and did not find the ride to be harsh.

You could buy them online, get the TPMS, and any tire you want for a little more than half that price...and Stealerships wonder why they get such a bad rap....

The 5k includes the installation which I guess comes to about 1200. I thought this was too much but didn't get to see them in person either. Definitely think it's too expensive. I just wanted to know if it's even worth trying to get them to come down in price. Other brands when you chose an accesory when you build the car includes everything and come factory installed. I think that's a weak point for acura. Thanks for your input

$1200 for installation is criminal.

I am considering a TLX with those wheels, but it is "only" the cost of the wheels, the new tires, and 140 dollars mounting and balancing.

If someone quoted 1200 dollars for installation on a set of wheels, I would just do it myself after they were mounted and balanced... It is just changing 4 wheels... Just do it one at a time and without using any special tools or equipment it will only take maybe an 1-1.5 hours.

Perhaps, but it might include filling them with nitrogen

I was searching for winter wheels and tires, and one site quoted C$3.50 per tire for nitrogen filling. Still waiting to hear what my local dealer will charge.

While on this topic, is there any Canadian online place that sells these 19" wheels at a good price? Or are we just at the mercy of the local dealerships?

you need to run not walk away from that dealer...

contact one of our vendors and see what their prices are...buy tires wholesale and have them mounted for a hundred bucks...

I thought that was outrageous all together. I haven't seen many people talking about the 19 inch wheels and wanted to get everybody's opinion. I think it will make the car look nicer but I don't feel it's a must have.

I don't know what tires they use with the 19 inch wheels and since a lot of people complain about the OEM tires I was thinking maybe the use a better tire. I think I'll just get a new set of tires when I'm due to exchange them.

I also wasn't sure if there's a performance advantage to 19 inch over 18 inch wheels. It seems that a lot of people have different opinions when it comes to this.

I got the 19s with my SH-AWD Advance and I really like them. It cost me $3521 which included wheels, Michelin Primacy MXM4 245/40R19 98W Acura recommended tires, TPMS, etc...

The car definitely handles a lot better with this setup due to the width, profile and quality of the new tires. I really wanted to get the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 tires for performance reasons, but they were backordered at my dealership. So far, I am satisfied with the performance of the Primacy tires. I liked the factory V6 wheels, but I really liked the 19s. Also, the 19" wheel is .5" wider (8") which allows you to mount a wider tire than the 18 (7.5") without increasing the profile.

Thanks for the reply Rickd. Very useful. What did you do with the 18 inch wheels?

Thanks!

Nothing yet, they are stacked very elegantly in my living room because I don't want to carry them to the basement. I plan on selling them for around $1500 or so.

The deal I am putting together has the 19 inch wheels with 245/50r19 Michelin Pilot Super Sports summer tires. The stock alloys are going to be shod in 225/50r18 Michelin xice3s winters.

Rickd, does that price for the 18" rims from your V6 include the tires?

I'm picking up my AWD Advance today and I opted for the 19" wheels because I didn't like the look of the 18" Wheels and how much of the rotor was visible through the spokes of the standard wheel.

The dealer couldn't match the price that I got on the Michelin 245/40R19 94V Pilot Sport A/S 3 ($879.00 including installation and $70.00 rebate, but not sales tax) that a major tire dealer gave me. I'm paying the dealer 1740.00 for the 19" wheels, so the total for the 19" wheels and tires comes to $2,619.00 installed (plus tax) and I get to keep the 18" wheels and Goodyear tires to sell on my own. I think I got a pretty good deal on the wheels and tires.

To my surprise the 19" wheels came with new TPMS sensors packaged in the box. I thought the tire dealer would have to swap the sensors from the 18" over to the 19", but had a pleasant surprise when we opened the first box.

WOW! If I could have got the 19" wheels at this price, I would have gone for them for my summer tires!!!

Instead, I am getting another set of 18" rims for my winter tires.

I love 'em. I especially love the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3s on them.

Pictures do not do them justice.

Thank you for the pics! The middle one looks great! I'm still debating whether I should do it or not. I really don't have use or space for an extra set of wheels. There doesn't seem to be much interest in the 18 inch wheels either. By the way I ordered a BWP too! Love the way it looks

The 19"s look really hot. You should get it. With the much improved ride on the TLX over the TL, getting those 19"s is a no brainer.

You can sell the 18" wheels and tires for $800 easily if not more.

To the person who contacted me by email, your mailbox is full so I could not reply. Here is my answer to your question:

So coming from a TL Type S, which had the stiffest ride of any car I have been in, I love the ride on the 19s. I don't think it's the wheels so much as the tires, although I could be wrong about that. I got a 4 cyl TLX Tech with the Goodyear tires for a loaner, and it felt a bit softer on the road and didn't feel as stable around the corners. I have Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 tires on my SH-AWD and they definitely provide a firmer ride than the stock tires, but I was surprised that they are just as quiet as the stock tires, and they grip far better around corners. The car certainly didn't feel slower compared to the 4 cyl.

I would do some price shopping for wheels plus tires installation, because I have seen some nice wheels in other pictures. But I think you will like the look and feel. :-) And I totally recommend the Michelins...if you live up north you might want to keep the stock wheels and put snow tires on them and get Michelin Pilot super sports on the 19s, otherwise go for the A/S 3s.
