Smoke coming out only 1 side of the muffler?

Hi guys,
I am just curious on this. I have a 16' TLX 4cyl. Never really notice this but this morning, cold day, I came out and saw only my left side muffler has smoke/steam coming out. The other side got nothing. I put my hand next to the exhaust on the right side, I can barely feel any heat or air coming out. Is this normal?

This may sound dumb, but I don't even think the 4 cylinder has dual exhausts. I could be wrong though. I think the only 4cyl TLX that might have dual exhausts is the 2019 ASpec 4 cylinder model.

Not dumb. I don't know either. Someone with a 2.4L can chime in. If the 2.4L does have "dual exhaust," it's probably just a single manifold with a split after the cat and two mufflers/tips. This design is traditionally the way a 4 cylinder appears to have "dual exhaust," but it is purely for looks. This is why you see the one-sided flow on many four banger on the expressway in the winter time. The exhaust is primarily flowing one way through the Y. You can see this on all sorts of Fords, Hyundais, Kias, Hondas and Toyotas.

Real dual exhaust is reserved for engines with two cylinder banks like boxers, turbo 4s, 6s or 8s. I don't know how they dual an inline 6. Those have two sets of exhaust systems - manifold, cats, mufflers. I don't know if the TLX V6 has true dual or a split somewhere and I don't have time to research it, but I have noticed exhaust out both of my pipes at acceleration and cruising. I can tell in my rearview when it's cold enough (like last week at -14F).

2.4s do have a dual outlet. Meaning a single down pipe, then a Y connector leading to two resonators. Both of mine usually steam around equal amounts. I never actually held my had up to the outlet and felt how much air was coming out though.

Sorry, I should've said dual outlets lol. I might be wrong but I thought in the past, I remember seeing both outlets having the same amount of steam coming out. Never really paying attention to it much until this week. Kind of strange I only see 1 side has steam, and when I held my hand up the the other outlet, I can barely feel any air coming out. I did text my service adviser and he said it is normal. I googled around, saw other mentioned (not the same car maker) that during idle, this is normal to have air/steam coming out in 1 side stronger than other.

theredia92, is your a 2.4?

Thank you all. It's seem like regardless 4 or 6 cyl, it is still coming off of 1 main pipe after the down pipe, then the Y connector divided up into 2 mufflers. I should be getting the same amount of air coming out of both mufflers during idle? Or during idle there isn't much air coming out, so the air is finding the quickest path first? Should this be a concern or no? I'll try to rev the engine up a bit and see if both side will be the same.

Thanks @Speed_Racer for the research and sharing! I'm surprised the TLX V6 went with this design. Maybe it's common to Honda. I'm certainly not an expert on the subject. They had the ability to do true dual and they kind of cheaped out for a phony version with the single downpipe and cat. I couldn't tell you why. If I were designing performance aftermarket exhaust, I'd focus on separating these and/or optimizing the pipe diameter for flow.

@noclue02 : I don't think this is a problem at all. Considering these diagrams, more exhaust is going one way then the other. Maybe not a lot but enough for you to tell.

Thanks someguy11. I'm not very sure but I think mine used to have steam/smoke coming out both side evenly back when I first got the car that's why I kind of confused and concern a bit hahaha. But yes, I asked around and couple guys said the same as you mentioned. Thanks again ya'll.
