Rusted Headlight Clips

My 2017 TLX has small clips under the hood on the headlights that are rusted already. The dealer said they can't get these individually, and would have to order the Headlight assemblies. I'm not really sure what these clips do, but I'd rather not get out of warranty and have them rust away or cause rust to start in the hood area. Seems crazy that Acura would want to replace the entire headlight assembly under warranty rather than just give me a couple of clips. I called Acura Customer Service, and they just referred me back to the dealer.

Anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions?

Thanks, Carl

I checked mine this morning, and mine are rusted also. My advice would be to hit them with a wire brush then paint them with some exterior paint.

Thanks. I was thinking exactly the same this morning. Just seems like we shouldn’t have to remedy it for Acura’s issue......

It looks to be only surface rust to me. I much rather take 10 minutes of my time and clean it up myself, rather then have the car at the dealer for 2 days to install new headlights. Then you have to pray that they aimed them correctly, and that they did not break anything in the process.

I agree 100%. Much less time to just take care of it. Can you tell whet those clips are even for?

I think the metal clips are one of the two ways that the clear plastic headlight lens is held to the actual headlight assembly. The other being the three small plastic tabs that you can see in your photos. So if you were to have a rock shoot up and chip a headlight lens, you would first have to pop off the 2 metal clips, then release the plastic tabs before it could be removed.

I sanded and sprayed with some high temp Rustoleum. Much better now!

You know this is not the first thread I have read on here about various parts on current model Acuras rusting. Something makes me think they are skimping out on quality materials in some areas. Regardless, good fix!
