Idle Stop Stall
Idle Stop Stall
So...my 2017 V6 TLX stalled at a busy intersection the other day. It has done this before but I could restart it immediately. This time it was dead dead. It's at the dealership now, but is this something you can get over? Even if they fix it I think I will always have the fear in the back of my mind that this could happen again. I had the dealership look into it during the last oil change and they told me that the battery was good. The car started fine in the morning and I drove 40 minutes before it stalled. Is it worth it to stick with this car? I'm torn!!
depends on what the problem is...
i'd have no problem with the car if it was dirty EGR valve or dirty throttle body... if, however, the issue is more complex like something wrong with the transmission, then i'd have a hard time trusting the car

Had same problem not too long ago on my '18 V6 SHAWD. Died in traffic, took multiple restart attempts (mind you this is summertime in Texas). Ended up being my *cough* original battery i should have replaced a year ago *cough*.
I had my battery checked about 1.5 months ago when I got the oil changed. I even told them about my concerns. I was told everything was okay at the time. Then it died. I guess that's my problem...the dealership said it was fine then bam...dead. I'm just nervous it might happen again. It's at the dealership now ( different one) and they don't see battery problems yet, but will continue to test it today.
Most of the Idle stop stalls are related to the battery - even if it tests "good" using the official dealer machine (apparently, Honda would only pay for a warranty claim if the machine gives a "bad battery code").
My personal rule of thumb is that these batteries last about 3 years max in my area (Canada).
I would just replace the battery - even if i have to pay for it - to avoid the hassle of being stuck, tow, etc,

Yes, it most likely is the battery even though it will test OK. My 2015 bought new is needing a third one now. The new batteries seem to operate idle stop for about 2 years, then the intermittent stalling begins. I wasn't ready for my third so I've been disabling it at every start. I'll have to get a new one before the weather turns too cold though (another symptom is remote start not working properly, especially in the cold)

Should you be in my country, Transport Canada Agency is on this case and collects TLX owner's complaints. I can report that battery changes have NOT solve the Stop Start Issue on my 2015 V6 SH-AWD, and it does stall since the car turned 18 months old.
