Talking Acura TLX - FWD V6 Exhaust

Hey All,

Stopped by my local dealership for an alignment on my car and was given a chance to see and hear the newest TLX they made pretty. I'm almost positive it's the new vossenforged wheels...super nice...

Setup is a K&N intake (from an accord?!?), Richie RV6 High Flow Cat to Jpipe

and then of course the exhaust.

I'm not affiliated at all, just an enthusiast sharing with y'all. All I can say is stay tuned for it very soon...made by a reputable company and hopefully will be available through one of our very own vendors.

and

J.

That is really nice looking. I like the sound of the exhaust or what one can discern over the sound of the intake. I was actually having a hard time distinguishing the exhaust because the intake was so dang loud(too loud of an intake sound for me.) I really liked the idea of the power output from high flow cats all the way back making a huge difference and it sounded great, again from what I could tell.

Yeah...I normally drive a 3G TL and it felt pretty damn quick to me in sport+
I do believe in the coming months dyno charts will back up the guesses that it's making some pretty good power.

For an enthusiast, though...the sound alone would make me want one. That's the biggest killer to the driving experience for me, no engine sound.

That sounds really nice! I would like that sound on mine! Lol.

Is this the same one Mike Chan worked on in his build thread?

Does this seem reasonable or am I way off...future plans; RV6 PCD, RV6 J-pipe, catback exhaust, Excelerate light weight pulley, and a tune from Ktuner...I'm hoping too see at least 310hp to the wheels. Dueable?

IMO, based on my own experiences with the TL and making 303 without a tune...I bet it's very doable.

On the subject of K-tuner that was mentioned I think the j35y6 motor has untapped potential. The j35y4 motor in the 2014+ RLX has almost the exact same specs as the TLX motor (same bore and stroke, same compression, almost same displacement) but the stock figures are 310hp and 272 lb.ft at the crank where as the TLX is 290 hp and 267 lb.ft at the crank. So you would think that just engine management could make up the difference and possible more given these have direct injection. I would love to see dyno numbers on this TLX from the start of this article with the full exhaust and intake just to see what bolt-on potential is. It looks great!

And just to add, you mostly hear the K&N intake in the video, thats pretty much how it sounds....yea you guys say you lose power with that intake but I guess we will see when the dyno sheets are shown to us.

That's why you just need to do what Ive done.. I installed an Injen CAI from the 2012 V6 Accord. Took some bending of one piece of metal to get it to lineup and mount, but man my car SCREAMS now and always pulls true cold air.

Filter is down in the wheel well and I am one happy guy. :-)

I will say that you do hear intake, but the exhaust makes up a LOT of what you're hearing in that video.

I have mixed feelings about the sound of this exhaust. I like the low rpm rumble and love the exhaust blip sounds during shifts. But that buzzing sound at WOT kills the lovely deep exhaust note. I even switched to high end Bose headphones to listen to the video a 2nd time to hear better low frequency sound range and couldn't stand it.
I was looking forward to doing a full exhaust and have been waiting on the Excelerate system but if it sounds like this I may just do HFPC with Jpipe only.

i noticed they did PCD on this car vs HFPC, would that make a difference in the sound with the full cat back system?

the only time I heard rasp was when the car took off from behind, otherwise, in cabin, I heard no rasp.

sounds sick. Have not seen a tlx with an exhaust in person yet.

Yeah, I heard that cheap buzzing sound also. The whole point (for me) is a non-force inducted deep throaty sound that's not excessively loud.
