2017 TLX: Navigation/GPS Map Upgrade

Has anyone ever upgraded their map for the GPS? If so, do you know how often they update their maps? I don't want to order the 2018 one to find out they release a new update at the beginning of the year.

Thanks in advance! :)

I know it's a pain, but you're better off with the latest version of Waze, or Google maps; even Apple Maps is better than the Acura GPS
Thankfully, the 2018-19 TLX, has Android/Apple, CarPlay, which actually works great
Get a phone mount, & you'll be happier with the results; plus it's FREE, & you can upgrade immediately, after the latest release

I updated the map in my '16 TLX with the '18 update. The updates come out every year. They used to come out near the end of the calendar year but for the last 2 or 3 years they've been releasing them around Jan/Feb, so the '19 release is just around the corner. They typically knock $50 off sometime in April. I update my cars every other year when they go on sale for $99.

Definitely Google Maps is better than anything else out there. But I still use the Acura GPS a lot, even when I don't use navigation, just to get my way out of a certain area. It's useful to see the overhead map to know where to go. Unfortunately, the 2017 TLX doesn't have Apple CarPlay which is a huge bummer. When I found out the 2018s would have them, I was so pissed. lol

Thanks! I'll be on the lookout for that next month.

No doubt it helps you find the Canadian Tire Centre from Montreal ;) Seriously, it is nice to have the turn by turn directions in front of you for tricky places to find that the onboard system provides. However, I still use Waze or Google most often because it provides a one step voice input that works great. Unlike the US, we Canadians don't have that luxury with the Acura GPS.

For anyone interested, the '19 map update will be available on 01/07/19. Free shipping through 03/29/19. It will likely drop from $149 to $99 sometime in April.

The navigation update usually drops in price to $99 in April. This year they didn't discount it until June 1st. On sale now for anyone interested.

The one I'm seeing that's for my 2017 TLX is $179.00. Are we looking at the same one?

You’re not better off when you have a 2015 and no Car Play. I live in a state with a hands free law, and using your phone with a map program is a crappy experience because you don’t get audio over Bluetooth or that’s all you get.

I bought the 2017 update. Installed in about 45 min pretty easily. The built in nav works well.

Must be a different pricing structure in the US compared to Canada. $99 in the US.

Just received the map update for my 2016 RDX. The installation instructions seem to be quite generic and I am having some problems. If you can give some advice I would appreciate your help.
1. Where is the DVD for the map located, instructions say not to use the one on the dash, I don't know where else to look.
2. Page 3 refers to a 5 digit security code. No idea where I find this, I can only find the 16 digit password.
Anything else you can let me know about would be appreciated.
Thanks
Gary
