Why are the front seats so flat?

Why are the front seats so flat?
I checked out the TLX again yesterday, and was disappointed by how little bolstering there is on the front seats. Contrary to the advertising, there was no thrill for me. One of the things that I like best about my TSX (and my Integra before that) is how the seats hold me in place. It felt like I would slide around all the time in the TLX.
Toyota has much more supportive seats in the Camry SE trim (my wife has a 2012 model), and most Lexus models now also have seats that are much more bolstered than the TLX. I never thought I would see the day when Lexus became more sporty than Acura.

I cannot see into the minds of the designers, but may I respectfully say that the shape of the adult drivers has changed so maybe it is designed for a larger profile.
Incidentally, even though I am on the lower end of the scale and they are fine for me and I do not need the seats to hold me in place. No aggressive of thrill seeking driving here, so that is probably the difference. Taking a corner reasonably fast or sudden braking causes the seat belt tensioner to engage.

It is refreshing to see I am not the first to make a twisted but humorous comment! Maybe I am starting to rub off you guys...(maybe you won't need that cream after all)
Oups...there I went and ruined my good record! Darn it *lol*
Quandry....I think you are on to something with the potential proportions of people?! I am like you being on the smaller size...actually I am wayyyyyyyyy to the light side but to me, the seats in the TLX felt more than adequate. I could always velcro myself in I needed to do some spirited driving *lol*
I think the seats in the 2016 ILX A-Spec will be nice by offering decent bolster and a mix of leatherette/suede. By the way, you can now configure the ILX with a body kit...interesting look if you guys haven't seen it. Not sure I like, and I am a bodykit guy

... and I had no idea that the said cream would also make it double in length. Such false advertising claims. I've also heard that you don't really get "bolder brighter colors" with the new and improved Tide.

Lexus“ The Passionate Pursuit of Perfection" and "The Relentless Pursuit of Perfection"
Mercedes-Benz " Engineered to move the human spirit" really?

Three and a half months of ownership later, I am still loving the driver seat of my TLX. I found the support and comfort level to be just right. In fact, it is one of the strengths of this vehicle. I am also on the "lower end of the scale" here....
Not every car is built for everyone. If the Toyota Camry is more comfy and "sportier" for you, that's great! You should get another one!

I agree with cruiserchuck, when I test drove the TLX when I was trying to decide between getting the 5G TLX or the 4G TL, the seats were a real turn off for me. I like the bolstered cockpit feel of the 4G TL, and even the 3G TL more than the flat, one size fits all of the 5G. Although I am 6'2 and about 200, so I am pretty slim, I often wondered how a heavier person would feel driving my car as the seat does hug me pretty well. I can see Acuras logic in making the seats less confining.

Agree with cruiserchuck. Coming from a 4G TL, the first thing I noticed was the seat. Jumping out of my TL and in the TLX in a matter of minutes to go for a test drive, it was obvious the seats aren't sporty. First I thought its because this was just the PAWS version, not the SHAWD TLX. But no, another test drive in a SHAWD was the same. Even when I threw the SHAWD TLX into a corner, I could feel something was wrong with that seat, as described "too flat". Going back to my TL the same day and throwing it into a similar corner I could tell definately the TLX seats fail in the "thrill" department.
PS. cream? try olive oil
PS. The seats in the RLX (not "h") I took out for a test drive felt a lot better. Not sure why, they look the same but somehow I feelt more support while cornering.

After having my TLX for about two and a half months now, I have noticed that the seats are fine for around town and going to and from work. However, on long drives I definitely feel the lack of bolstering in the sides of the bottom cushion, and lack of support in the upper back and neck region. I'm average height and weight btw

I got my TLX after spending many years in a BMW with sport package seats. Definitely a huge step down in terms of sportiness, but then again the car overall is a huge step down in sportiness. The TLX isn't a sports car. I use mine for a long freeway commute, and it works great for that.
