What is going on at Acura
I own a 2010 RL and looking to buy a used RLX or a new TLX. I have been reading these two forums and really have concerns over some major problems that these new cars are giving buyers. The RLX has this suspension problem that just does not seem to be able to be fixed. The TLX now among other problems has the 9 speed transmission recall. I have bought 14 new Acura's and never returned one with an initial problem of any kind. In dependability for 2014, Acura ranks fourth by J D Power but initial quality 25th. The three previous years initial quality was 2013 6th, 2012 3rd and 2011 3rd. This really states Acura has a problem with rolling out new cars. Something has obviously changed at Acura. Lexus is #1 in 2014 for both dependability and initial quality. Would entertain someone from Acura commenting about 25th. We are behind Volkswagen and Land Rover WHAT!!!!

I have had an Audi and would never own another. I not concerned about not a 100% but going from 3 to 3 to 6 to 25 over four years certainly shows a trend. The day on initial quality Volkswagen and Land Rover are ahead of Acura and Mini is just below that is a big problem.

The '12 TL I bought had 0 initial problem as did the '08 TL.
IMO, many of these things are blown way out of proportion. They have the transmission/park recall on "certain" V6 models but none of the members on here has mentioned having the issue or none that I saw. Not that it means much but just going by what I see.
Why does one JDS show 25th yet the TL is in the top 5 IQS here: Alternate study
Regardless, I hold dependability rating higher that initial quality

I wouldn't so concern about the ranks. Acura put a very large bet on the TLX (and undoubtedly on the RLX) to bring the brand to its former glories which to me translates to more careful engineering and attention to their strenghts. Yes, you're making a bet with them when you buy either of them but if I had to guess the odds are pretty good. Also VW is making a gigantic effort to gain ground here in the US and their numbers have nowhere to go but up. Just the opposite for Acura I'd say.
Having said (and please someone correct me if I'm wrong) what did boher me about the TLX is that it's entirely OHIO built while the RLX is built in Japan. I chose the TLX nonetheless because it fit my needs better and I can't justify a decision based on speculations when I have real needs. The only thing that will keep me ahead no mater what car brand I choose will be thorough research and some DIY love if not just to understand the unique nature of the car I choose.

Ours has had no problems so far. One "feature", which is that it rocks a bit after you put it in park and take your foot off the brake, is completely alleviated by putting the parking brake on -- and our 2014 MDX does precisely the same thing, so I think it is the adaptive dampers, myself. In any event, that's a quirk not a problem.
The fact that the TLX was built in OH was a selling point for me, as was the fact that the MDX was built in AL. Don't forget, many of those Toyotas with their problems were built in Japan.
