Question VIN - What the differences between 80xxxx and 00xxxx

Seems there are two sets of VINs popping up in casual conversation. I believe mine is 001654 but some others report 80 in front of their number instead of double-zero. All of these VINs are for the 2015 TLX. I know there weren't over 801654 TLXs made as of November 2014. Does this signify a Canadian made / type of TLX. I thought all TLXs were made in Marysville, Ohio?

Just curious.

I searched the forum but I don't see any mention of this request for information.

Thanks.

A starting digit of 8 is for Canadian models, and 0 for US. No idea what it is for Mexican, Russian, Chinese, or Japanese.

I'm kind of curious now. What numbers are you seeing?
I'm asking because I've always assumed the last few digits were the sequence the car was built. So if you see a VIN ending in something like 001654, that was the 1654th car assembled. If you see one ending in 881654, not sure what that could be in terms of the TLX since that many haven't been built. Where are you seeing these VINs? Maybe I've just misunderstood VIN's all this time. lol.

The country codes are the first 3 digits in the VIN.

I guess I did as well. I knew about the first part of the VIN being the country code, but always thought the end was the creation series. Seems Canandian cars are 801654 where US cars are 001654.

Seems they are made in the same place, US, but configured differently for the destination country? MPH vs KPH, Celsius vs Farenheit, etc?

Almost always, more features as well, though at a higher cost.

This time around, the usual (windshield wiper tank is larger + low level sensor) and something new (power folding mirrors - not manual folding power mirrors like we get here in the US, these are power folding power mirrors).

I would like the ventilated seats in my I4 since I live in South Florida.
