TLX vs RDX

Hi all,

I new here and this is my first post.

I’ve been an Acura lover for a long time, had and Integra when I was younger, then moved to a TL and now I have a TSX.

I know there are lots of info out there regarding transfer case issues. I have a 2015 TLX (135000 KM) and my transfer case makes a constant sound. I have an appointment at the dealer on Wednesday. I’m hearing this is an expensive piece to fix - not sure if it needs to be fixed or replaced.

Is it worth fixing and is it time to change car. If it’s not worth fixing, I was looking at the RDX but how reliable are they. I got ride of my TL because of transmission problem and wondering, are Acuras still worth it?

Does the RDX have issues related to the turbo, transmission, transfer case?

my goal is to buy used if it’s not worth fixing my TLX.

looking for some advise

What is your price range for a newer vehicle? I've been a +30 year Honda/Acura owner and noticed a trend. Honda/Acura issues are greatly reduced after the Mid Model Change (MMC) going from the 1st/2nd/3rd to 4th/5th/6th model year. Usually, the last two model years seem to be the most reliable and solid models for the entire run on average. You might run into the same long-term issues if you are thinking about 19-20 RDX; but, have less long-term +160k issues with a +22 RDX.

Welcome to the forums. The forum where you originally posted, the AcuraZine User Help, Support & Suggestions Area , is meant for problems, comments, and suggestions for the website itself, so I moved your thread to the car specific forum applicable to your vehicle.

This was explained in the sticky thread at the top of that forum, or click here if you can't find it, which will explain why you shouldn't have posted your thread there.

Thanks for the post. I was looking at the 2020 - considering since they still have a price tag of 40k + (cdn).

Which generation does the 2021 fall into.

hope this is not one of those decisions I need to make and leave Acura. I’m feeling annoyed with some of the issues that are being reported. I love the TLX and RDX model but never had an SUV so thought this is the time to look at it.

The 2021 RDX falls into the pre-MMC updated range of 19/20/21 RDX models. I went from an 06 TSX Aspec to 08 RDX tech about 10-12 years back. There can be overlap with a sedan and CUV for a lot daily tasks. I found I had more potential and flexibility with a CUV I didn't realize before with only having a sedan for decades. You might not see the potential of upgrading to the RDX if you don't need/want to take advantage of the "U" in CUV.

I liked the 08 RDX so much, my next vehicles with an 11 MDX Adv, and 19 MDX Adv Sport Hybrid after that (handed down the 08 RDX to daughter, sold 11 MDX to nephew). I ended up skipping the +19 RDX and went for the 19 MDX Sport Hybrid because of hybrid had 321hp/289tq, more room/space, drove like a smaller vehicle, sporty powertrain with 7DCT/3 electric motors, 425-450 miles per 19.4 gas tank, improved handling with regen braking/tq vectoring, and city/combined/hwy mpgs in 24-28 range.

I would test drive an 18-20 MDX Sport Hybrid in tech or Adv versions along with 3rd Gen RDX. They should both be in a similar price range depending on year and mileage. Don't know if you have or will have a family, X-country trips, need to haul 3-4 adults size folks occasionally, or need more utility for outdoor activities.
