TLX Power All Wheel Steer potential for problems?

I own a 2018(61K) and 2019 (16K) TLX, both 2.4L tech and both doing perfectly well at present.

I became concerned reading about Power All Wheel Steer System (PAWS) problems with the car becoming difficult to control when the PAWS rear wheel actuators fail.
This is said to be a several thousand dollar repair and not covered by the powertrain warranty. It is mostly been in the pre 2014 RLX's so far. See website below about it occurring in a TLX 2018.

This is a post from NHTSA about this in a TLX. (please scroll down to the May 5, 2023 complaint)

https://www.nhtsa.gov/vehicle/2018/A...X/4%2520DR/FWD

My questions:

1. Is this a reason to trade this car in early or is this not a problem for most TLX's ?

2. Has this been happening to others?

Thanks for your thoughts

The actuator assemblies can be bought online for around $2000 each (MSRP is aprox $2900), and it should take an hour of labor to replace. The OG RLX PAWS actuators were revised during production of the 2016 model year (in 2015) so I'd imagine the fix has been applied to other models that use PAWS actuators.

If anything, you could always buy used actuators if yours fail to save money.

I haven't heard many complaints about PAWS, and it's been on the TLX since 2015, and RLX since 2014. Most of the complaints I found were from the RLX with it making noise (pre 2016 year RLX's)

I have a 2015 tlx base FWd. I was just told I need to replace both rear actuators and it’s $8000. I’m so devastated about this. Please any advice would be helpful

part no 17 and 18:

about $2200 each plus tax. I doubt both went out at the same time, you can buy a used one and see if that might fix it. Labor should be less than $1000.

They told me 3100 each. My friend with 2015 also having same problem. All her warning lights are on and it’s been that way for a year. Same thing. Both rear actuators. I feel that this is the same issue as RLX but they had a recall

If one rear acutator isn't working, the system will disable both to ensure the car drives properly. Get your car to an independent mechanic who can tell you which one is actually bad before replacing both.

I have checked the NHTSA car complaints, I could not find a large # of actuator failures, you can also check CarComplaints.
If it were my vehicle and I did not have an active warranty I would definitely go the used parts route, you would save thousands.

One complaint from Carcomplaints.com 2015 TLX in the yr. 2017

TLX 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 15,000 miles
A warning light showed CHECK PRECISION ALL WHEEL STEERING SYSTEM. A technician at an Acura dealership fixed it at the beginning, but this problem came back a few days later. Then the technician fixed it, then the problem came again. I have been going through this cycle multiple times this month. Just a few minutes ago, this problem happened again, God knows what's wrong with this vehicle. It's really a pain in the ass. I strongly request Acura buy back the 2015 TLX, it's really a piece of junk.

Thank you for that information. The dealer did an alignment bf I picked it up. And now all the sensors are off. So now I’m not sure if the actuators are still failed? Or the alignment triggerred the codes? I did not repair the actuators as of yet. Waiting to speak with dealer and outside mechanic.

Does the actuator warranty extension apply to TLX?

I read that the warranty on RLX actuators is now extended. How exactly would my 2018 and 2019 TLX’s be affected by this? Thanks.
