yeah but the design is old already.
create an all new design that looks as great as the 3G does.
kinda weird to release a new product that looks like an old version.
the 2nd gen TSX doesnt look that bad.
and with mods the 4th gen TL looks great!
I sure hope acura does go backwards in design

I would really like to see sharper lines, along with more aggressive styling. They need to dump the damn grill, and design a new one.
All other brands seem to be doing that, Why cant Acura.

But isnt that what BMW is doing with there 3 series, although its a new generation its still the same profile as the previous gen.

their whole line up has the new grille.
if you look at the 2nd gen tsx and 4G TL, you'll find that they do have super sharp lines and aggressive styling.
I expect the TLX to look similar.

That new grill is not really bringing any new customers, my older sister was looking at the new TLs but didnt like the styling at all. She bought an A6 supercharger or whatever their package is. She had an Infiniti G37 convt which she got bored with after 2 years owning it.
I told her about Acuras when she was shopping, since she loved the styling for mine.
So Acura needs to really change the front end grill since so many auto reviewers just dont like it at all.
I dont like it, but it looks good on the MDX and the new Gen 'X' too.

But side profile is so boring, and rear of both need to be redone.

Looking at the other thread about what car would you get next besides another 3G TL, I'm actually surprised how many members would consider the 4G TL. It also appears that many members here would rather drive something else other than another Acura.
I'm planning on keeping my 3G TL until the wheels fall off but for a future vehicle, I can't say that I'm looking for another Acura when I'm in the market for another car. (Unless the TLX looks amazing inside and out)

So is the TLX still going to be based on the US accord? The merge of the TL and TSX isn't a surprise. I just hope the result is more TL than TSX.

i saw the thread title and thought maybe its an old thread...but this thread barely started today...I've known about the decease of the TL a long time ago like a year ago. I have friends who work at the dealership so I know everything as soon as it happens. everything with an S in the middle willl be a coupe, anything with an L will be a sedan, that's the trend. I didnt want to believe it when I heard it a year ago but now it just feels normal, cant believe ppl are barely finding out about it now
also, the other day i was checking out the rlx at the dealership and i realized its a double wishbone suspension, it has not changed to mcpherson strut like the 2013 accord did. now, I hope the upcoming acura cars will not have mcpherson and stick to good old double wishbone

As far as I'm concerned the TLX is basically a 5G TL. Just the same way they added an X to the end if the new RL. Acura is going to have to do a LOT to win me over with the new TLX and I pray that it looks nothing like a 4G.
I saw a new RLX on the street today and it definitely wasn't anything exciting to look at. I was also very disappointed with how the headlights looked while on. They looked like one of the first cars that had HID headlamps in the non projector housings. Just looked like a big blob of light, unlike HID projectors that have a very nice distinct look and nice flickr with color. This 08 TLS may very well be my last Acura, there is just so much else out there that's much more impressive.

TLX better still offer SH-AWD I think the engine will be a 3.5 direct injected and HP figure should be around 310hp and 277 tq/lb. According to the new Accord the new TL should loosing (slightly) weight since now they are using aluminum some part of the car instead of conventional steel. I figure the 0-60 should be around 5.1 seconds, 1/4 mile @ 13.5 seconds.
I also agree with James, Acura product no long give me wow factor (exception of SH-AWD) therefore I think my next car probably gona be a Lexus.

I've read through the thread and it's amazing about the confusion in the thread. Justin definitely has been keeping up.
I'm pretty sure the TLX will have a conservative look to it... more or less. I'm definitely a fan of the 1 and 2G TSX, 2G MDX (MMC), and 3G TL (). They're definitely pushing for more unification in terms of design language and names on the cars. The grill doesn't bother me nowhere near as much as it did on the TL, especially before the MMC change. Hell even a modded 4G TL has caught my eye (post-MMC).
As for LED lighting (Headlights, not DRLs), I've seen them before, but I'm not sure how I feel about this new tech just yet. They look all nice and fancy in the headlight. I passed by an Escalade that had them, they look good on (though this was the middle of the day), but I'm not sure if they're actually brighter than HIDs. New tech will eventually trickle down as it improves. HIDs will be around for a good long while imo.
Now to sum it all up. Acuras are mostly conservative, but I've seen what can be done on here with a few mods here and there. I've seen very nice nice 3G and 4G TLs, TSX's (1G & 2G) AND modded ILXs and MDXs. So if the 3G section is any indication, some of you guys will mod the shit out of the car, stand out, and make it badass anyway. And there are quite a few modded 3G TLs on here that look amazing.

I forgot to add: It wouldn't be a surprise if the TLX had SH-AWD as an option, since it's like that for the 3G MDX. I still say there SHOULD be an actually BRANDED Type S version though. Even though the 4G never had a Type-S version, people have claimed that the SH-AWD version was the 4G's Type-S.
#58
Ya, but that was basically discontinued last year even though they have a 2013 model year which is exactly the same. The ZDX never sold, mostly because it was an ugly overpriced POS, and Acura's first attempt at trying to copy BMW.

How I see it, a lot of us will probably move onto another luxury brand car after the 3G TL. Acura's direction has changed significantly in the past few years by trying to focus more on refined luxury rather than sport IMO. Aside from the NSX, it's been pretty dull.
#62
There is a way. Acura demonstrated a willingness to let the NSX grill find its way into unexpected places when they showed the SUV-X in Shanghai. If the TL/TLX is supposed to exhibit aggressive styling vs. the rest of the lineup, I would hope this is where it goes.
The 'beak' has been critically panned from day one and is played out at this point. Anything would be better.
Also: Lighted sidemarkers need to make a comeback. They're a little detail that has a huge impact on the car's profile.

Whatever happened to the rsx though? Will they be trying to bring it back sooner or later like they did with the nsx? Not that i ever liked it but just wondering...
Also I've only seen one zdx that looked half decent and that was only because someone clearly spent a good amount time and money on it

I'd rather not. She would get so pissed if I posted any kind of photo of her.
She knows that I always search on this forum because I always mention in when I see her.
Ill just take a photo of her car instead.

I also plan on keeping my 3G TL as long as possible. Having said that, I originally indicated I didn't like the 4G styling because of the 'beak', but now (years later), the style of the 4G has grown on me. I recently used a 4G (2013) as a loaner while my 3G was in the dealership for a minor repair, and I must say, I was happy with the car (and it was a non tech, base version), and I like what they did with the grille. I would consider it for a replacement if something happened to my 3G. As for the 5G (or TLX), it'll still sell, as it's extremely likely to have all the tech features of the Accord and more. As long as it's priced right, it will still sell.

"Although it had been a relatively strong seller for Honda, the RSX did not fit within the confines of Acura's re-structured market strategy, formulated after the decision to take the Acura brand worldwide (previously, the Acura nameplate has appeared only in North America, elsewhere in the world the same models are sold as Hondas). With the introduction of the similarly powerful and less expensive 2006 model-year Honda Civic Si to the marketplace, the decision was made to discontinue production of the RSX, with the final units built in summer 2006. The last one rolled off the assembly line on July 7, 2006. Because of its lower pricing and longer list of available options, Honda considered the new Civic Si to be a more viable choice for performance minded young men(or women), who were the most common buyers of RSXs. The TSX would replace the Acura RSX as Acura's entry level nameplate starting in 2007."

Actually, TL sales dropped sharply in 2007. Annual sales for 2004-2006 were 77k, 78k and 71k respectively. 2007-2008 were down to 58k and 48k.
The TL was on fire in 04-05, but then Lexus released the 2G IS models and Infiniti upped the ante on the G and that put a major hurt on TL sales.

Fire the guy in charge right now and give the 3G designer a raise!
I don't know where Acura is headed but they need to bring some excitement back to their lineup. I think that they are marketing their cars towards an older crowd with more money.
Maybe one day I may buy another Acura but I'm going to see how long I can drive my 3G!

Who cares? Acura's keep getting uglier, unless mine gets wrecked in the next year or two and I want the same/similar thing I'll try something new next time. Have a little variety in your life!

Though it's not officially labeled as the Type-S, the 3.7L V6 SH-AWD TL is more or less the "Type-S" of the 4G TLs IMO.
Perhaps they thought that adding a Type-S badge to the 4G would make the car seem childish and immature to their target audience.
