My '06 TL is a bit long in the tooth and needs retiring....

I am considering a 2014 RLX or a 2015 TLX.

What do you guys recommend? What are the pros and cons of each?

odd that you would phrase it that way....
as they are two different cars...and depending on your needs and wants....will determine what car is better suited for you.

Seriously, and be specific about the engine/trans you are considering in the TLX.

 

I dont want to keep the TL going. I just want something newer. I am considering a v6 auto trans model in either series.

 

ok, so what is the difference between the two? Is the RLX just a bigger, more luxurious car?

 

I owned a 2014 RLX PAWS Adv (now own a '17 SHAWD) and a 2015 TLX Adv. As Justnspace said, two different cars. After driving the TLX I always enjoyed getting back into the RLX. TLX was a bit more sportier/tighter handling car than the RLX. My wife always commented (she drives the TLX) the RLX felt 'loose'.

 

i mean; it's clear you havent done your homework.
the RLX can come in an AWD model that has electric motors attached that provides extra Oomph, while controlling each wheel via AWD.

the TLX doesn't come in that configuration.

i dont think it's OUR homework to do. I think you need to figure out what your needs and wants are from a vehicle, then base your descision on that by test driving both.

 

on top of that, the TLX has two models, an I4 and a V6...
the V6 has a funny transmission, that no one seems to like...

 

I was looking for ideas and impressions from the folks here. I came here as I am starting my "homework" on these two models. It's sad that you went right into a$$ mode and decided to rail on me for asking questions here.

if I was a salesman; i'd take your money by suggesting something you didnt need or want.
I'm helping you figure out what you really want and need, by asking you tough questions.

furthermore; you couldnt tell me which car or engine choice or even drivetrain layout you want.
as the RLX and TLX are different cars, catering to different needs and wants.

again, which do you prefer....a smaller, slightly sportier ride?
or..a larger vehicle that can be equipped with electric motors?

or do you not care and want the PAWS versions?
Do you care about quirky transmissions?
What do you like about either vehicle? Do you like the shape of the TLX? or do you prefer the shape and design of the RLX?
Have you driven either or?

 

Why do I get the feeling that you haven't even test driven them. That's the 1st thing you should do.

Between the 2, I'd take a RLX Sport hybrid over a TLX V6. More bang for the buck (can probably be had for less $) and no crappy ZF transmission.

Or better yet, open up your options beyond the 2. Why limit yourself?

 

RLX Sport Hybrid FTW. The most expensive option but the best IMO.

 

People can get a little "impatient" the forum, but i do agree that asking more specific questions after some preliminary homework is a better approach. That being said, in regards to your TLX option, I would recommend you consider a 16 or up model TLX over a 15, just because of improved transmission programming on the 9 speed. Personally, I would recommend the 2.4 8 speed DCT, as I have owned both, as IMHO, it has more than enough power, has a very quick and smooth shifting tranny (also think about a 2016 instead) and the PAWS gives it excellent handling. If you must have more power, then go for the 2016 and up V6 and perhaps add the SH-AWD if budget allows.

In regards to your RLX, I have good impressions about the car, but others here who have owned one are far more qualified to advise.

Unless you need AWD, I'd take a look at the GS350 instead of the RLX.

 

For the reasons we know, I would pass the 2015 V6 and go directly to 2016 V6.

 

Think outside the box, OP. Unfortunately, while your have remained loyal to the calipers, Acura really has failed to keep up their end of the bargain. A used SH RLX would be amazing for the right price because that is a FAST vehicle, but I would look elsewhere as well.

 

For starters, you're asking a very vague question and trying to compare two completely different vehicles. You need to go out and look at the vehicles for yourself, gather your own opinions on them and then the feedback given here will be much more beneficial to you. Choosing a car is completely subjective and we can't provide any meaningful feedback unless you know what you want in a vehicle. At least give us something to start with other than "do you prefer the RLX or TLX?" and don't take posts so personal, it's not like anyone is attacking you.
