Question on Genuine Accessories
Picking up a new TLX AWD V6 Tech Friday and I have a few questions on the accessories/options.
I'm having them add the Remote Start option ($399) since it will be covered by the factory warranty. However, there's other accessories that I'll likely hit one of the web suppliers for that have them at significant discount. Example - Acura wants $369 for the spare tire kit, but I can source it online for $236 with shipping. I guess my only question on that is does the tire come mounted on the rim? Or will I need to find someone to mount it.
Also, has anyone added the backup sensors to the car as an accessory? I know the advance comes with it, but I'm just curious if anyone bothered. No car I've ever owned had them and I think I'm perfectly capable of backing up without them :-). That being said, if I were to consider it, this is another one I would have the dealer do now to get it under warranty.
I also plan to add the cargo/bag hooks, trunk tray and mud guards - all of which can be had online for a lot less than they charge (OK, maybe a few $$ for the cargo hooks is irrelevant). Thoughts?

I added the spare tire afterwards, just a bit of risk mitigation. You get to keep the air pump as well, it has a slot for it in the kit.

Make 100% sure when you order a spare tire kit what exactly comes with it.
I ordered the spare tire kit from an Acura dealer on line and the wheel came without a tire. They told me that they could not send a mounted wheel through a local carrier. I therefore purchased the tire (special order - 5 days) at a local tire shop and had them mount it. Overall, it was a mess and not that much of saving and, hindsight, should have had the dealer install it at the time of purchase.

Instead of the spare, I put the money towards upgraded tires, and new wheels, so I have spares if needed, as long as I can limp the car home.
Regarding the sensors, I have them since I purchased an advance. The fronts can be helpful in close parking situations, but the rears are completely superfluous with the rearview camera.
I mounted the splash guards myself. (Easy), and passed on the cargo hooks as they are plastic, and would intrude on the entry space for the trunk if packing it with luggage, etc.
My Audi has flat ones that fold up when not in use which would have been a much better design.
