Pull trigger on 2017 TLX SH-AWD Advance?
So I've owned my 2012 TSX Special Edition for 6.5 years and 60k miles it's been an awesome car. I actually bought it out of state in 2013 without driving it or seeing it in person (only in pictures) and took a one way flight to pick it up and drive it home. I've been on the hunt for a very specific TLX for quite awhile (A 2017 SH-AWD Advance in San Marino Red with black interior and the factory aero kit installed). One has recently came up for sale about 500 miles from me and I am considering pulling the trigger and buying again without seeing or driving in person. I'm a little apprehensive about doing this again even though the blind TSX purchase worked out well for me. I'm quite certain I would be happy with this car. I've never actually driven a TLX but I love my TSX and this car is an upgrade in almost every regard (way more tech, more power, AWD, etc.). The car is listed at $25k and it only has 21k miles. This is a non-haggle dealership so this is would be the purchase price. It seems like this is a relatively fair price when doing a price comparison. Thoughts? Am I crazy to consider buying another car sight unseen? Anything specific I should be aware of? I've seen the multiple threads about the transmission issues with earlier models but it seems like they were resolved with later years. Please talk me into or out of buying or give me some constructive feedback

The inconvenient truth
You have never driven a tlx and are thinking about buying one 500 miles away?
Why not test drive a local one to see if you even like it.

The TSX SE was something special and even though it lacked a lot vs my Tech, in some ways I almost preferred the SE.
But yeah apples and oranges comparison and in this case I would not recommend doing what you did with the TSX. The TLX Advance is a more complicated machine in every way and does not have the best reputation thus far. If you're interested in the car I would do an extensive test drive before purchasing.

I'd definitely go test drive it, it would feel pretty different from your current TSX.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I have a family member who happens to live right by this dealership so I have him going to take a look at it Tuesday (if it's still there) to inspect it and drive it on my behalf. I'm also going to try to drive one locally too as much as I hate to go to a dealer to test drive a car when I have no intention of buying one from them. Hoping this all comes together

UPDATE: I bought the car I flew out to Denver at 8am Saturday morning, took an Uber to the dealership and drove it home 500 miles to Kansas City. I absolutely love this car. The radar cruise and LKAS made the long drive so much easier. These headlights are also amazing. Coming from a TSX SE which has almost no tech features to a TLX Advance is a little overwhelming lol. It's going to take some time to learn how to utilize all these feature and settings.
It looks great from 10 feet away but it is in bad need of a paint correction (tons of swirls). I plan to get it all dialed in this weekend once I have some time.
Question: Is there a link or a .pdf of the TLX service manual anywhere? I like to do my own maintenance and I like knowing the correct torque specs for every bolt

Looks really nice. So rare to see a red TLX that’s not an A-Spec.

Definitely put better tires on it... I recommend Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+ tires, especially on 19" wheels. You won't believe the difference, it's like it's a different car..

Yes, I am fairly certain these are the original tires with 22k miles. I may upgrade to 19" wheels but wondering if that will give me an unsightly fenderwell gap with the stock ride height. I would love to lower this car about an inch but not sure I want to mess with coilovers or lowering springs.

I do want to get 19's at some point but want to focus first on getting my TSX sold, getting the TLX registered, then doing a full paint correction on the TLX

Congrats. Nice pickup. The aero kit looks subtle but makes a big difference.
