P-AWS and SH-AWD for snow

I know that there have been a couple of threads kind of addressing this issue, but as I look at the reviews of the 2.4L with P-AWS I am rethinking my first choice of TLX.

I am in CT and although we don't get a ton of snow, we get enough to make winter travel a pain. I have an 07 TL that I run all year with my Michelin all season tires. I hate driving in the snow b/c I slide everywhere. I know that snow tires would probably solve the problem, but as I look at my next car....probably in about 1 year, I would like to improve my traction in the winter. I was originally thinking TLX V6 with SH-AWD. The great reviews of the 2.4 P-AWS however have me leaning towards this model.....sounds like a blast to drive and I put on a ton of highway miles, so the better mileage is very appealing.

Do you think that P-AWS (with or without snow tires) would be more than enough for winter travel, so is SH-AWD a must? I realize that P-AWS is not specific to traction, but I assume that will improve some control in snow. I have never driven a P-AWS or SH - AWD Acura....all of mine (for past 25 years have been fwd with all season tires).

Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks

People say winter tires take care of 95% of traction issues in snow. People with RWD 3 Series say they do just fine with winter tires. The added weight of FWD in the TLX should help even further.

Plus, the less weight of the FWD TLX should help as well in stopping situations.

I am a AWD fanatic, it has advantages even in wet weather regardless of snow when you hit patches of water that cause one or more wheels to hydroplane. I think RWD has the worst, of this, FWD weight over drive wheels helps, but give me 4 drive wheels any day. I live in GA and we just got a AWD RDX tech for similar reasons and I have my A6 Quattro.

Put on some proper winter tires and you will be fine with just FWD in urban areas. Having said that AWD will always do better.

I know you said you had been looking at the SH-AWD, but the V6 FWD gets almost the same mileage on the highway that the V4 does (only a 1 mpg difference)... I do a ton of highway driving and welp... that's attractive.

If Acura only offered the SH-AWD across the entire line up, I would jettison my aspirations to own a TLX and go with an ILX.

True. From my recollection, even for city driving, the V6 only consumes 15-20% more than the I4 but then again, gas prices here in Canada are so expensive compared to the prices in the US.

They should take a page out of the Audi book at have SH-AWD available for all models, with the TL V6 and above having it standard. Just IMO.

I would take FWD w/ winter tires over AWD w/ all-seasons on any day below 45deg.
