I was out driving today--going forward, not reverse, when the cross-traffic warning sounded. It was triggered by a motorcycle passing me on the right. I did not know it was active except in reverse.

 

Sounds more like blind spot assist to me...

 

I have a 2015 TLX SH-AWD with the Advance Package, yet Cross Traffic Monitoring is Greyed out in the settings. What's up with that?

 

Hmmm, I don't know if I've had any issues with that on my car yet. Perhaps it is in one of the settings menus. Have you checked to see if you have it set, and if so, what your settings are? You may just have to adjust the range.

I'll try to do some experimenting with mine as I plan to do some long distance travel in the next few weeks.

Hmmmm.... perhaps I was premature. It certainly did not show up in the Camera settings, but when I go into reverse, it is active. Odd. Maybe I cannot change it from on to off?

 

Except, of course, it says cross traffic and flashes the rear warning indicators! Really, now, do you think I don't know what I saw/heard????

 

Is it possible that it could have perhaps been pedestrian mitigation? And it thought the motorcycle was the the right sized object? I've definitely had it go off in city driving when it felt that people got just a wee bit to close. Of course at the time, I was stopped in traffic.

 

Did it actually display the words "cross traffic"?

 

Did you get the update or is your car new enough to already have the update?

I bought my TLX in August 2014 and got the update later.

 

Are you sure you weren't driving backwards?

 

In reverse the Cross Traffic Warning definitely picks up things on either side of the car, crossing or going parallel. In drive, the Forward Collision Warning system will pick up cars and vehicles in front or crossing in front. Otherwise, something is amiss. The update that was done to earlier production cars, including my own, adds the sound warning to go along with the flashing arrows.
