Its just what Honda needed, a nice looking car that would sell pretty well & stop the hemorrhage. The fact that it looks good & is selling should enable Honda to add the extra stuff that people are looking for over & above a basic car. They have a clear shot with the mid model do over.

Question is will they step up now or wait till the next generation?

My EXACT same feeling.....Man I wish I would have kept my 2012 TL. That being said, I REALLY like my Lexus and I may keep that one for a while....especially that it got a 6 speed unit that works flawlessly.

Which Lexus do you have with the 6 speed? My friends have an IS 350 F Sport and the transmission in that is FANTASTIC. If you get a chance don't be scared of the 8 speed, it's a great transmission.

^^ I have the same car but with the AWD, the IS 350 Fsport comes with the 6 speed but to be honest, that is plenty enough cogs for me.

I want your car! lol. As I mentioned, I've driven the IS350 AWD F-Sport numerous times. In fact, I wanted to buy it over the TLX in the first place, only problem was Lexus wasn't giving me much for the TL on trade, Acura suckered me in by taking my lease back and dropping my payment by $80/month for the TLX. That is single handily the only reason I ended up in the TLX. First choice was Lexus IS350, Second choice was the Infiniti Q50, and TLX was my third choice. We did end up getting the Q50 for the wife later, so atleast I have that to drive around. But really wishing I could have the IS350 over TLX.

you had every right and oppurtunity to buy a different car, but ended up with the TLX......one that you dislike on multiple levels.

On Fathers day I took the girls on the blue ridge parkway...we drove to the highest point on the road 6000+ feet in elevation.Where ever we stopped the car was scoped out.
Also descending from the 6k level I stopped once...then checked the mileage at the bottom.67.7 mpg and 87.7 mpg were showing on the display.I wish I had the nav turned off...next time I am going for 100mpg on the descent!!!!!
The car was a joy to drive in the sharp turns...a great picnic and scenic drive.

I do not know what "hemorrhage" Honda is stopping in term of sales...the TLX is still selling significantly less than the TLX + TL it replaced (which by some measurement is understandable because there was some overlapping between the two however in 2015 sales were still 19K units short of what TSX and 4G TL were in their second model year, 2010) so is not moving the needle in terms of market share. The only positive is that Honda is saving costs because is selling only one model instead of two, maybe that is what you mean by saying "stop the hemorrhage".
Furthermore, I would love to see the sales breakdown between the 4 cyl TLX and the V6 because I do not even see the 4 cyl TLX being generally considered as a replacement from former TL owners, 3G or 4G.

I love how you manipulate things for little agenda. TLX + ILX replaced the TL + TSX lineup. 2010 TL + 2010 TS = 66,125 total US sales 2015 TLX + 2015 ILX = 65,614, ZOMG they are hemorrhaging! more like a paper cut. I would love to compare at the years end what the numbers of the 2016 TLX + 2014 ILX, both second year would amount to. I would guess more than the second year of the 4G TL + 2G TS.

You are manipulating things.....even introducing the ILX in 2012 (started to be sold in May) things did not change that much in the TL + TSX which did start to fall in sales both of them in 2013 because they were getting old. Are you saying ILX sales were affecting TL sales??

Acura replaced the TL and TSX with the TLX, the ILX is a compact car, TSX and ILX were both midsizers. Furthermore, as I said before, I would like to see how many TLX V6 out of the total Acura is selling and then compare that figure it to TL sales as I do not see the 4 banger TLX as a TL competitor.

So far (first 5 month of 2016) sales of the TLX have been softer than the same period of 2015 (22172 vs. 18913) so actually sales may have peaked in 2015 (47K) already for the current generation.

I will give you that though. They do sell way more 4 bangers than v6 TLX's. ILX's actually bit into the TSX sales.

Glad you agree...again, I think Acura is indeed making more money because it did cut costs with one less model to manage but in terms of market share/unit sold the needle has not moved.

I still don't understand why Acura married the TL and the TSX. What were they thinking?

Probably reducing the number of models and trim levels and reducing production lines and costs.

I own a 2002 and a 2012 TL and I really like the generation in between as well. But I don't care AT ALL for the TLX. No agenda - I am actually kind of "sick" over it because my 2012 is getting up there in miles and I can't see buying another TL in it's current form (i.e. TLX). I have seen the TLX on the road - in the showroom and at the autoshow and I really can't begin to love it - not at all! I have not driven one in all fairness but I can't get over the styling. If you own one and love it - I am happy for you. I wish I could. To reiterate the above post - what were they thinking? They should have kept the TL and TSX separate models ...

Ya, if you can't stand the looks, there is no reason to go drive the car and test it out. Same exact reason why I was never interested in the 4G. Best of luck jdigeorgio and let us know what you end up with.

Yes - I was tempted to test drive a TLX but I think you are probably right. Although I bought a Maxima not too many years ago because I liked the look - a lot. Still have it. But honestly I am not crazy about how it drives because of the CVT. So I guess the opposite can happen too - i.e. you like the appearance but hate how it drives.

I was thinking - what is it about the TLX I don't like. Is it really the styling? I mean the TL has somewhat of an ugly rear end depending on your perspective. And I think the problem is partly that the TLX doesn't appear as substantial as the old car. To some that may be a good thing as many thought the old car was a bit of a pig. But for someone wanting that larger car feel (even if it isn't really that much larger) - I think that's the disappointing part ... that's why I believe many of us are saying they should have kept the TL and the TSX instead of merging them into one model. At a time when every new model is getting larger, the TL got smaller.

Maserati and TLX similar? OK, maybe a stretch or wishful thinking?

I can see it, bottom-line the tlx is a good looking car in person. In photos... not so much. In the wild these look good next to anything.

test drove the 2.4 tech today. was alot of traffic so i didnt get to really test the power of the car. main thing i liked waa how smooth and quiet the car was. very little engine noise or road noise. handling was nice. i really like the look of the car. the interior tho was a bit bland. nothing that really stood out. the one i drove had the graystone interior and cant say i liked that color much. thought i would but nah if i bought one id get the espresso. it looks amazing and makes the interior a feel a bit better. considering getting one since theres some deals on the 16's but still contemplating going with a 4g TL also. guess i should give the v6 a test drive also

I admit I was underwhelmed and a bit disappointed when I first saw one in person. The design has grown on me and when I see one now, I really admire it. I'm still not sure if I would buy one yet though.

It's actually my wife's car & she likes it. I like the 10 TSX she had better. My favorite Acura was the 02 TL Type S ( with the Legend a very close second).

I love my 2016 TLX. But my perspective may differ than many on this forum. My previous car was a WRX, so in comparison, the TLX is a HUGE upgrade from the Subaru plebeian interior. I do realize the TLX interior is rather plasticky, but the plastics definitely feel a grade higher than what is found on mainstream cars (at least compared to my WRX). Would I love real aluminum accents throughout the car? Absolutely. But at the price point for my fully loaded Elite (Advance) TLX, I'd be spending $5K+ for something comparable on the German side, and even Lexus. Acura may not have the cachet of the others, but I rather like being under the radar. The car is quiet and comfortable, but still plenty peppy and fun around the bendys with that SH-AWD. And love, love, love, the sound system which is fantastic for the type of music I listen to (classical but I've been known to bop to Lady Gaga on the odd occasion ).
