Drove The New TLX Yesterday - Initial Impressions
Nice. They only have the V6's in right now. The 4 cylinder models are a few weeks behind.
This one had the tech package. First getting out of the dealer's parking spot was a breeze as it has a very tight and narrow turning radius unlike our 3G TL's. Acceleration was good, but I learned for maximum performance between that and maximum economy on the highway, you have to almost constantly select between Sport, Sport+, and Economy mode, kind of like downshifting a stick and then upshifting. The push button transmission shifted very smoothly and for the most part, shifts went unnoticed. Felt kind of weird shifting with a push button, but there's paddle shifters that made it a little more copacetic. My 6MT could easily give this car a run for it's money on the track.
I like the new touch screen controls on the lower screen for audio and climate which made me feel like I was operating a computer. Low and behold, Acura remembered the importance of an instantaneous MPG gauge this time! The Nav system doesn't allow you to put in a new destination unless the car is stopped, but can still take a new destination when the brakes are applied and the car isn't moving. I tried to put in a restaurant that's been in Hackensack, NJ for about 40 years and it didn't come up! The 3G Nav system is still easier.
Bottom line: Would I buy one? Maybe, but I wasn't impressed enough to do so without checking out the other options out there in the market place first.
But ahhh, that new car smell

Safety Car
Nice to hear the thoughts of a 3G owner regarding the TLX. The car seems impressive enough and the tech sounds really appealing but I still can't see myself driving anything without 3 pedals anytime soon
One of these weekends I'll swing by my local dealer to take a peek though.
