How did you turn it off?
Do you have a 4 cyl. or a 6.
Would turning it off effect the noise cancellation system used when the the V6 cuts cylinders to run on 3?
I faded the speakers to the rear 1 click and that seemed to help the bass as the mids are toned down a bit up front. Helped smooth out the voices too.

I have a 4. I would think it turns off the same system if it is called ANC.
You have to get into Diag mode and then Developer mode.
If you can't find it, let me know.
Well, I was able to turn off the ANC and it did have an effect. The ELS does sound better. Crisper highs and I'm able to hear/feel the real low tones better. As far as road noise, I could tell there was more tire noise but it wasn't a huge difference. Unfortunately I found that if you turn the car off the ANC defaults back to the on position. So you would have to either turn it back off every time you started the car or get into the dash and unplug it (which I'm not doing). So I'm just going to set up my stereo the best I can and live with it with ANC on. I find it totally acceptable even though it would have been nice to listen to it in all it's glory. Oh well.
I had ANC off for two days and the sound was incredible. I went back into Diag mode and developer mode to set ANC on to demo the quirk and found it was on. When I exited, the sound returned to the dull sound I heard before.
Next time, don't re-enter Diag mode after you set ANC ON and see if the quality sound sticks around.
Another thing I just thought of that's annoying is that the keyless entry is only for the front two doors. I bring my backpack and put it on the back seat every day and it will require to use the key fob to unlock the doors. BMW does the same thing. I don't understand why. I can't be much more expensive to put the sensors in all four doors

I found out, at least on my TLX which can't be much different than yours, that ANC only resets if you re-enter diag mode.

What works for me might not work for you
I guess that could be happening. I kinda like not having as much road noise though. What I've done is turn the bass and the sub almost all the way up and fade the speakers 1 click to the rear. Treble set to the middle. Still not quite as good but acceptable to me. You could prolly put an aftermarket sub and amp in it but ANC would prolly still effect that as well.
