Cost of spare tire kit in Canada

Hi

I was wondering if any fellow Canadian TLX owner purchased the spare tire kit from a Canadian Acura dealer? What price were you quoted for parts and installation? The acrua.ca site does not list a price for the spare under accessories. When I called my dealer, the parts person gave me a quote of nearly $1000. Certainly that can't be right when it's listed for under 400 USD on acura.com. I was hoping to get the kit and install it myself.

Thanks

Wow!!! That's crazy the price difference. I would imagine you could order 1 from the vendors that advertise here and have it shipped to you. The kit should fit your car because I believe that they are the same. When I got my kit (my brother works for Honda so I got it through him) I had to get the tire from Tire Rack and have it installed. The kit was more elaborate that I thought and I had to change trim pieces and all the associated foam pieces and tools. I'm very happy with the kit and the knowledge that it's there is reassuring. I hope you get some feedback from Canadian dealers or a vendor from this site to assist you.

Hoosier,
If you don't mind...how much was the tire on tire rack? And any special installation process of the spare into the trunk?
Dealership says they "may require some drilling" but i looked underneath the trunk cover and the spare tire mount is already there. Not going to pay them to do it for me if I can do it myself.

Honestly, I don't know the cost because my bother got it for me and he had a discount, but it was under $70. The installation couldn't be any easier. I have the Advance model and I don't know if this applies to all models, but there was already a mounting bracket welded in the trunk. It took maybe 15 minutes to do the complete replacement. I had to remove the rear trim and the floor mat and the storage compartment, then put the foam insert, the new rear trim, the tire and mounting bolt, then the top foam insert with the tools and the new floor mat. No instructions necessary and it was very easy. If you check your trunk, you should have a bracket welded into the area where the tire will be, if you don't then you may actually have to drill, but I doubt it.

Good luck.
